These are GREAT ideas! I’m thinking of gifting books this year. For the past several years I have taken my group of friends to a Breakout Game/Escape Room. With a group of 5-6 people, it averages out to be around $30-40 per person, which is around what I would spend on them for Christmas. This way we all get to have a fun experience together as a group as my gift!
As an avid book and tabletop gaming geek, I approve of this message! (Dragonwood was one of my kids' favourite games when they were younger, and Dungeon Mayhem and Castle Panic are both current favourites with them, so those were great suggestions. Another cooperative campaign game that they enjoyed a lot was The Adventures of Robin Hood.) For board gaming friends, there are several sites (including Etsy) that sell enhanced/upgraded components for many different games, so perhaps you could help them bling out one or two of their favourite games!
I go back and forwards on this tbh cos I don’t re read a lot of books and I often think maybe somebody will love it so I give it away so it can find a reader, there’s some I keep like lord of the rings or wizards of earth sea
lol I know, obviously couldn't be me! But I do have several friends who like reading and then gifting books because they either don't have space or don't like having a lot of items in their house.
Etsy has a beautiful sign that states “ Now Serving Breakfast, Second Breakfast, Elevensies…” I hung it up in my kitchen. I also bought a sign that states” the Wheel weaves as the Wheel Wills” , hung up in my laundry room!! Etsy also has great tees… I have one that states” Hinderstap Bed & Breakfast “ & “ Middle Earth’s Annual Fun Run…One Does not Simply Walk into Mordor” with a glitter mount doom!!
Here's my ideas: - notebook, highlighter pens, tabs for note taking while reading (I have clear sticky notes so i can write "in the book" without damaging pages) - bookmarks with art or book cover art from a specific book - envelopes and wax seal set (if they're interested in that) - a gift card to a place they like to shop for books (can be personal and meaningful, shows that you know them while allowing them to buy what they want specifically) - a book bag! Can be homemade, snazzy leather, warm and cozy crochet, or in any style you think they'd like
Omg I ALMOST put wax seal on here but forgot! I own many because I love them, and even made my husband a custom one for his fantasy series. Wax seals are just so much fun
For a Robin Hobb fan, the special editions are beautiful and if you order them from the University of Washington bookstore you can request her to autograph them.
I started a few years ago giving people books off my shelf (usually along with something else). Not just something random, but, something I read, probably enjoyed (though, sometimes, the reason I didn't enjoy it is a reason someone else might've), and which I think they would enjoy. It's personal, takes thought, and allows the book to serve value, rather than just taking up space on a shelf.
Saw you on to 2 ramble and loved your hot take. But I’m also 33 and mom (of 4 kids) but been binge watching your videos! My husband doesn’t read so it’s just nice to feel like I found a kindred spirit.
If you could check out and possibly review my novel, I would be over the moon. In fact, I almost guarantee that after you read the blurb you’re going to want to read the entire thing in one sitting!!!
I love all of these ideas. I've gifted Board Game Organizers or inserts to my family. They're board game enthusiasts and some of their games (looking at you Puerto Rico and Terraforming Mars) have so many little pieces that setting up the game cuts into actual play time. I've also done custom Dice sets, and D&D Dungeon Master campaign planning journals.
As my username suggests, I love jigsaw puzzles and I've done several from the Magic Puzzle Company. They're so much fun! And there are many fantasy-related puzzles. I have LotR, ASOIAF, Harry Potter puzzles. I'm sure there are so many more.
Thift shopping is how I prefer to RECIEVE gifts. I've hated getting presents since I was young (I still appreciate them, but I am never comfortable with it. Though I will admit the PS1 I got when I was 15 made me incredibly happy) but knowing it hasn't cost much takes away that sense of guilt and leaves the knowledge that they care enough to think of me. Never feel guilty for spending less. It REALLY is the thought that counts, and anyone who puts stock in the price tag PROBABLY doesn't deserve the gift. (pretty much the only person I spoil is my mum. And only bc she's been through a lot)
For me, I find it purely dependent on the individual and integrating things they like with things they'll use. One of my favourite gifts I got was a set of geeky themed kitchen utensils. I love cooking so they've gotten so much use and it felt special because they clearly thought about what I might like.
So, in addition to books, I also read/collect comic books, and I collect physical media for movies, TV shows, and music. And because part of that physical media collection is VHS tapes, I've given my friends and family (I don't have a significant other) a list of DVDs and VHS tapes that I'm looking for specifically. Board games and puzzles are a great idea for gifts. I also like the idea of gifting your favourite book to a friend or family member, though obviously in order for that to work, you gotta know the person well enough to know what their particular tastes are so you know if they're actually going to enjoy the book you're giving them. Because, trust me, it doesn't always work out very well. There have been several times where my best friend, who I've known for over 20 years now, has lent me books that he was pretty sure I would enjoy, but I didn't. Luckily he's never tried to just give me a copy of his favourite book as a birthday or Christmas present. Of course the opposite has happened where he's lent me a book, I've really enjoyed it and ended up buying my own copy of said book.
Sometimes it's still fun to read books others enjoy even if you don't enjoy them though (depending on length, obviously lol). I always feel like it's a little peek into the other person, and it helps you know them better
@@Bookborn Absolutely. And sometimes you get surprised to find out that they like a particular book that you actually didn't think they would like. Which is really cool.
My siblings and I rotate who has who, and this year I have my sister who's a professional baker(completelydelicious), so I might have to see if I can buy some of these for my kids instead, lol. Last year i was able to go all out with fun Stormlight stuff for my other like minded sister!
I love those wooden maps! They so cool. All great ideas! I love giving movie replicas. I’ve given Harry Potter wand replicas in the past from noble collection. They were around 60. Also my parents gave me the one ring and that was around 50. They cool little things you can add to your bookshelf.
So we've only done three so far, so I can answer for those: I think Mystic Maze is my favorite overall because of the art style and conclusion, and it's also the most difficult if you are buying for an adult and want a harder one. However, we truly loved all three and have done them all multiple times. The Forest is the easiest, if you want for a family with younger kiddos.
Easiest gifting, holidays and birthdays, to book lovers who happen to be booklovers of accessible trade paperbacks and of a fantasy series is really just that of the same style as the one they have OR hardcover edition of a singular favorite novel, like Dune! And yes, bookmarks!! Or world building encyclopedias, which I so happily received that has art in it as well! 📖 🎉 love that story magic puzzle pieces idea!! Who knew I would dig this! 🎉 yep, classics B&N tomes! Bookworm, some standard Chessex from FLGS or even online! 🎉 I point in in Leo DiCaprio gif meme! 🎯 📚
Thanks for this great list! A lot of these are amazing! I totally would've bought some dust covers if they had more in stock.. and those maps, WOW! Love it!
These are such lovely and original ideas! 🤯 I particularly love the themed custom made art idea (yours looked so whimsical! ❤️), the book jackets, and the map on the wall. 👏
Thanks Bookborn for the amazig ideas! In my case I also like giving figurines or other items like the One Ring. Another good idea is a year subscription to a bookbox or a reading app. The bookbox is cool because every month they will receive a part of the gift, making it a year experience. Also, for a really good friend or a significant other, tikets to go together to a convention!
I've made bookmarks myself. I made a set based on fantasy races... dwarves, elves, orcs and whatnot. I kind of made them look like banners or pennants an army of these races would carry. The dwarf one looked a little Nordic, Celtic for the elves, a tattered banner for the orcs and something more mediaeval/heraldic for us yoomens
I've never heard of the magic puzzles...my father in law is going to be very excited for this! He is a puzzle lover and it gets harder every year to find unique ones for him to enjoy 🧩 Thanks for the idea 🙌🏼

Ok I just LOVEEE experience gifts, they are some of my very favorite to receive. What a good idea!
And my Christmas list just got some additions.
Whoa, great recommendations! A ton I’ve never thought of before. Thanks!
That dice obsession hit me HARD

I just finished The Expanse books which I adored and I’m looking for a new scifi series…Any quick thoughts on the “We are Legion” Bobiverse books?
Wow. Those puzzles are amazing and the wooden maps are sick. Just gonna casually share this video with my wife real quick.
Yes, I always like giving my husband hints too 🤣
Not. Keep. Books.🤔 What a weird thought to have

My wife likes writing in the book, but I really can't do that because I love it when my books look and smell "brand-new".
You forgot to mention jewelry, like the Great Serpent ring you're wearing :)
There's also necklaces and bracelets of various fandoms...
For a Robin Hobb fan, the special editions are beautiful and if you order them from the University of Washington bookstore you can request her to autograph them.
Any other nerds here looking for gifts for themlselves?

I just want an Argonath bookends.
Where can these be got
'hello fellow nerds!'
its frustrating to see posers take over the label because its quirky and trendy now. fuck this timeline!
If you could check out and possibly review my novel, I would be over the moon. In fact, I almost guarantee that after you read the blurb you’re going to want to read the entire thing in one sitting!!!
thanks for the recommendations, sounds like you have a cool family
How badly on the nose would it be if someone sends this video to all their friends?…. Asking for a friend 😅

I'm loving the black sweater you're wearing BookBorn! Happy Autumn! 😊
I took one of your recommendations (magic puzzle), thank you!
They are literally so cool!!!
I'm the only book lover and fantasy nerd I know lol
Great Video!!! I love the recommendations!
Great list - thank you
Love gifting books. I am gifting Piranesi and The Blade Itself to friends this year.
Also super into those puzzles! Definitely checking them out.
I gift Piranesi to everyone. I'm convinced anyone can enjoy that book lol
For me, I find it purely dependent on the individual and integrating things they like with things they'll use. One of my favourite gifts I got was a set of geeky themed kitchen utensils. Ok but buying for a baker sounds so fun (although maybe hard if they already have everything lol)
@Bookborn, yeah, especially when I've bought her baking stuff in years past😆
Fantasy travel/location posters are always so cool

yes replicas are SO fun! We have Sting and a few wands, I love them on my shelf. (Oh, and I guess the giant shield counts too LOL!)
Which of the puzzles did you like best? I see there are multiple per series, not sure which one to get.

I must recomend you to buy Cthulhu dead may die. It’s an AWESOME board game

glad you mentioned etsy so much. ive found great gifts for my dnd group on there from dice jails to dice health potions. what a great gift guide :)
These are such lovely and original ideas! 🤯 I particularly love the themed custom made art idea (yours looked so whimsical! ❤️), the book jackets, and the map on the wall. 👏
Now I want so many of these for myself 😂 The magic puzzles and wooden maps are especially cool!
My favorite book marks are the magnetic ones. That way if I stop at a point midpage I can mark it there.

Nerdy ink is great for book jackets and so is Juniper books if you want another book jacket option

Those maps are stunning. I’m thinking Roshar would be cool done like this. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas.
Special edition or more deluxe editions of books/comics collected editions are always a win for me
I love the dice holder idea!! 😃 👍 🙂🙃🙂 😉
These are cool ideas, thanks.
Really appreciate the ideas!
These are phenomenal ideas!
"My kids"????? Wait... you're telling me you're not 19???
😂
😅
I've never heard of the magic puzzles...my father in law is going to be very excited for this! He is a puzzle lover and it gets harder every year to find unique ones for him to enjoy 🧩
