Not a closet but they migt have to stay on the top level of the house, keeping in mind they raised the house several feet recently (ive been seeing many houses to do this here in florida recently, in the lower elevation neighborhoods)
Also, if i have it correvtly, the coastline in this region is heavily foliated rather than sandy beach and so the surge could be slowed/lessened along certain stretches, might be wrong?

Hurricanes only affect coastal areas at a dangerous level. They quickly lose power once they hit land, and Atlanta is far inland. They'll just get some heavy rain.

Looks like Perry and Hampton Springs are in the bullseye, fortunately the area it appears will make landfall is sparsely populated -- the Wildlife Management Areas should make a good wind break to lessen the damage further inland.

This hurricane might feel like "the hand of God" in some areas. I've experienced 2 derechos (land hurricanes) here in Illinois (winds speeds between 80-120 mph...spawning random tornados in the bad spots along the storm front...) so I can only hope and pray for those getting hit with 140-155 mph winds and 20ft storm surges!! Hang in there Florida!!
I experienced a derecho too and that was scary! It sounded like a train was coming through. It came out of nowhere and at night at that.

With these kind of events increasing in frequency and intensity you would think there would be more talk on the campaign trail, especially in places like Florida, about how one candidate is trying to reduce global warning while the other seems to be doing all he can to exacerbate it.
