Superimposing the charts are necessary as well. Take your navamsa chart and place it on top of your birth chart and see how the planets are manifesting.

*QUESTION* I understand how the flow of the signs work, but is there a pattern about how the planets work? Example: Aries Lagna I know the signs are in the proper order, but the planets could be anywhere, is there a certain pattern I could see to determine that?
Houses characteristics are guided not only by the signs in them for eg in Kalpurush but also planets ruling those houses. Hence 6th house has more relation to analysis as is required to deduce sickness and cure it which the 6th house represents, and thus ruled by Mercury the planet of analysis. Thus a pattern for planets related to signs as related to houses
