Hi everyone! Like I said in this video, I'm just here to strictly discuss the nursing care of circumcision as a medical procedure. This is not me making a moral or ethical call on what a parent should or should not do for their children. Regardless of your personal beliefs on the procedure, as a nurse working in this specialty, or a student preparing for the NCLEX, you will need to know how to care for an infant if they had a circumcision. However, I love your passion and your willingness to be advocates for patients, and hope you carry that advocacy into your practice! --Meris :)

These excuses all acknowledge that each individual or organization is participating in a larger system. The idea that we are not merely individuals but participants in cultural systems is a core idea of critical social justice theory. However, critical theory also suggests that we are morally culpable if complicit in those systems. This 'Complicity Principle' states that 'one is accountable for what others do when one intentionally participates in a collective that causes the harm together.' Even if genital cutting might occur without the participation of one person or group, 'one is accountable for the harm we do together, independently of the actual difference an individual who intentionally participates in such group action makes.' Participants... might not have an individual ill will towards the child, but they have participatory intention. 'Participatory intention is intention to act as part of a group in collective action of agents who orient themselves around a joint project.' On this issue, the 'joint project' is infant genital cutting. How many days until the circumcision is fully healed? If the umbilical cord heals before the circumcision, should the parent still refrain from emerging the infant in water?
The circumcision should heal within 7 - 10 days (depending on the text you look at). If the circumcision is done within a few days of birth, it should actually heal right on track with the umbilical cord stump :) --Meris

Circumcision in newborn babies is Male Gnital Mutilation.
