  • This video is regarding Decathlon's comfort hybrid bike called the RIverside 500 retailing for a price of approximately 23,000 Rs. In this video, we go into details and talk about the specifications of the bicycle, my opinions on the things I like and dislike about the bicycle, and my overall experience of riding it.
    This is one of my earlier attempts in video editing. I have really stepped my game up in terms of production and editing as compared to my previous review of the BTWIN mybike. It is still a long shot from pro UA-camrs' production quality but I'd like to believe that I am improving.
    Thanks for watching! If you like what you see, consider subscribing, liking, and sharing this video as it really helps the channel out a lot.

    I have been using this for 8 months now on a daily basis. You nailed it about the speed. It does feel you are going slower for the energy you spend. I love this bike but now I am thinking i should go for a road bike to go faster. Unable to go past 40 kmph on a flat road and 50 kmph on a slope.

      Yep, a roadbike will definitely feel more responsive and alive when u really put down ur foot to pedal. The lack of suspension and excessive moving parts really makes the roadbike feel nimble.

Had almost finalised St 30 medium size when I saw your review and now I'm wondering if I should go for Riverside 500. Riverside 120 is in my budget but is not available anywhere. @@priyabalakrishnan6690 sorry for the late reply, i think if you can stretch your budget to the riverside 500 you should because it is a lot more bike for the money. If you are 5ft 5 I would suggest going for a S frame if you are buying a bike with a 700c wheel (28/29 inch wheel), if you’re buying a bike with 26 or 27.5 inch wheelset bike then go for a medium frame. In simple words, if you ride riverside 500, go for small frame. If you go for any rockrider bike like the st 30 and whatever else, then go for medium frame.

    Thanks for the great video! I am confused between riverside 120 and 500. Do you think the front suspension and disk brakes in riverside 500 are worth additional 13k ? I will be using the bike for daily 3-5 km and weekend 10-15 km, and I expect some potholes/bad-road patches around my place. Also, what will be maintenance cost for the riverside 500? I have seen many of the reviews at Decathlon complaining about gear issues in riverside 500 - have you also faced same ?

    • @13ballom
      @13ballom  3 роки тому +5

      I would say that if you are riding less than 20km everyday then just go for riverside 120. Its tru that the disc brakes, 9 speed gearing and the nice suspension make the riverside 500 worth it, but for such small distances as you describe the riverside 120 will actually suit you perfectly.
      As far as gear issues are concerned, all geared bikes can have gear issues. If you adjust and index your gears properly you wont have any gearing problems on any bicycle. There are lots of good videos online on how to adjust your rear derailleur. A lot of people in the reviews probably don’t understand that gears need to be adjusted from time to time and hence the bad reviews from them because they expect the bike’s gears to work well until the end of its lifespan once adjusted.
      I have made an amazing video on the trek marlin 7, even if it is a bike you aren’t interested in, please do check the video out. A lot of hardwork went into it.

What this means is that u will be sitting a lot higher on the riverside bikes than you would on the btwin mybike. I would suggest going for an M size with riverside but the best way to make sure is to actually visit a store and try it. One issue I see on the first day of driving is that changing gears between 3rd-4th make harsh sound (similar to if the chain is slipping from the cassette and is not properly fixed). I will be going to Decathlon for getting this fixed. Do you think I should ask for a full replacement given it is a new product or is it something expected from a gear cycle ?

    Hey Somesh, Excellent review on BTWin Riverside. I am planning to buy HOPRIDER 500 LONG DISTANCE CITY BIKE .. Would it be possible for you to share your comments on this bike .. I am a beginner level rider in UK at the minute

    • @13ballom
      @13ballom  3 роки тому

      I wasn’t actually aware of the HOPRIDER 500 since it isn’t available in India but I went and looked it up for you.
      Firstly i think the bike looks great, it is a good commuter bike for the price. I want you to know that the intention with which this bike is built is commuting and utility. So if you are planning to ride for improving yout cycling performance or sport purposes, this isnt the bike for you, chief. The focus of this bike is clearly comfort and utility. It is going to put you in a position thats very comfortable for your back, it has mudguards to protect from the rain, a light to help with the dark and pannier racks to carry stuff.
      Coming to the specs i think this is a well specced bike for the price and since a lot of these components aren’t too expensive, repairs and replacement will be cheaper. You can also do at-home repairs on this bike because if anything goes wrong it can be easily and inexpensively serviced and you will get to learn bike repairing in the process.
      I think this is a great beginner bike for you, but it is also important that you keep in mind the purpose of this bike, it is made for leisure rides, commutes, and for enjoying cycling in general… if you decide to ride it on a single track or trails or if you try to keep up with roadbikers wearing lycra and going at 50kmph, this bike isn’t gonna hold up.
      If you liked my content, consider subscribing, it means a lot to me and takes only a moment of you time.

    3.rigid fork used by both the bikes. Which is better between them?

      You said that you want a comfortable posture, so I would suggest going for the riverside. It also has more road suitable tyres than the st30 which should help with easier pedalling. Finally, you won’t believe how much of a difference double wall rims make. Go for riverside 120 because double wall rims almost never have spoke breakage or rim bending issues.

      I would suggest home repairs because over a long course of time, it makes up for its cost. The upfront cost of home repairs is much greater because you need tools to repair a bicycle and many a times these tools are more expensive to buy than it is to pay a mechanic. But a tool, once bought is forever yours to use. You will also gain knowledge of repairing your own bike which is also invaluable… and over the course of years, repairing and servicing becomes essentially free because you will have both the knowledge and the tools.

So try it out, see if you like the saddle, if you don't like it, you can always change the saddle or add a gel cover or wear cycling shorts with padded chamois.

    • @13ballom
      @13ballom  2 роки тому +1

      Yes riverside 120 is a good option. As far as servicing is concerned, any local mechanic can do the servicing, the bike doesn’t use any special parts that are only available at decathlon.
      Alternatively i suggest you buy some tools like allen keys set, 2 adjustable wrenches. Tyre levers, puncture kits, cone wrenches, chain breaker, pliers, screwdrivers, cable cutters etc and learn to service it yourself by looking at youtube videos. The best part about self service is that you learn everything in the process and it is free everytime after u buy the tools. Finally, to the mechanic your bike is just a job that earns him money so he wants to do it fast so that he can maximise his earnings. To you, your bike is your belonging so you will take care of it well while servicing.

      @@ankitpawale7606 yes definitely as long as you practice reasonable caution that should be practiced with any roadbikes. While potholes will not damage the frame or the rims one should avoid them as much as possible since roadbikes don’t have suspension so your body will feel the shock and also if it is not possible to avoid a pothole, go over it slowly. To avoid punctures press ur tyre before each ride, there should be sufficient air in your tyres. try to avoid offroading as much as possible, roadbikes are durable enough to handle some offroading if you dont do stunts and jumps and go over sand and rocks slowly, but thin tyres means you will have less grip in sandy or gravel terrain, so you should ride carefully. Other than that the rc 120 is simply the best roadbike in its price category, you cannot find a better value from any other brand availavle in india. Dose it climb hills well?

    • @13ballom
      @13ballom  3 роки тому +11

      All bicycles climb hills well. Even single speed cycles that have no gears climb hills well.
      There are two factors at play when we ask if a bike can climb well. One of them is not very important and the other one is actually the most important part of the answer.
      Lets get the unimportant part of the bike out of the way. 1- gearing. The bike comes with 36 teeth on the front chainring and 36 on the first gear of the rear cassette. This makes the gear ratio 36÷36=1. This means when u pedal 1 full rotation the rear wheel also turns once when you are on the first gear. This ratio is more than enough to climb long gradual hill climbs.
      Now the important part of the answer- the engine of the bike. The stronger the engine of the bike, the better the bike will be at climbing. Do you know who the engine of the bike is? It is you. A good rider can climb faster on a single gear cycle than an average rider on the world's best and lightest bicycle. So don't worry about the gearing of the bicycle, enjoy the ride, get fitter and stronger and the bike's capabilities will increase with an increase in your skills and fitness as a rider.
