  • I've recently returned from my 2015 euro trip. Set out with a goal to do the entire stint with only carry on baggage. It was tight but if anyone else is thinking the same, here's what I took with me...
    Backpack:
    Pacsafe venturesafe 45L
    Packing cells: www.kathmandu.c...
    Wallet: Pacsafe RFIDsafe V150

    I traveled to Lugano, Switzerland and Rome last October with the updated version of this bag. While my friends were struggling with suitcases, I was bopping along with the VentureSafe 45 and a sling bag also from PacSafe. It was wonderful.

    my wife and I used this bag for 15 days across 5 European countries. the bag took a beating and was WELL WORTH the money. the security was awesome. I recommend you combine with compression packing cubes.

    • @koolever3
      @koolever3 7 років тому

      brifoote i googled it and it came up in the shopping options. I paid around $180. It was worth every cent. Especially when we locked it away and traveled without worry.

      The bag's still available. It's very popular still. Look on www.pacsafe.com/venturesafe-exp45-anti-theft-45l-carry-on-travel-pack/60321.html, but is expensive if you live outside the USA. Check out Amazon or ebay (maybe pick up a lightly used one). I got mine on sale at a local outdoors store. Google the local suppliers in your area. Good luck. Let me kno how you go. Happy Travels:)

    The other good one is Tortuga backpacks. They are slash proof, water resistant with a shell you can buy, they have a separate iPad/ laptop compartment, and what I love is they are front loading with a compartment at the back for the straps.

    I have been a minimal traveller for the past 5 years, with usually a 20L backpack, and fully packed it always tipped about 6 to 7kg. upon the reveal of your pack, i knew there was absolutely no way it was 6+ kg, when a 45L is packed full to brim.
    thank you for clarifying the weight with that weigh-in photo and breakdown. it is always a good strategy to wear the heaviest, during flights/transit days.

    Thank you so much for sharing your excellent review of this bag and for providing excellent tips as well. I am sooooo impressed with how organised you were which made for an excellent holiday.
    Regarding the travel journal, I use Travelpod. It can be time consuming (uploading pics) but you get to share it with friends and you can also print a book if you wish..

    I love the video, thank you for showing your bag in such detail, and showing off the anti-theft factor of the bag. As i am also afraid of theft in hostels or on the street. This is now my number one choice as a future travel bag, as it is also on the cheaper side going for only $200 dollars.

    Great video. Like you - I also own a Venturesafe 45 L. I'm a big fan of the bag. Biggest plus is the safety feature. I loved it so much that my packable day pack is also a Pacsafe. The only thing that I wish they did differently is to have a laptop sleeve at the back part of the bag - instead of the front pocket.

    Just tried out the this pack and wanted it so much to be ”the one” wore it for awhile and planned to go for a walk with it but after an hour of walking with it indoors found the straps so uncomfortable and real hard so its going back. And the waist strap did nothing at all. I think I'm going to try the Osprey Fairview (?)40L for women again as it was truly comfortable but had other things I didn't like.

    • @evanthomas12
      @evanthomas12  5 років тому +1

      Sorry it didn't work out for you Angela. I actually bought a fairview for my partner for Xmas last week and it looks like a great pack. The straps, support and ventilation are better quality than the pacsafe, but does miss out on some of the security features. You can get generic wire meshes that go around the outside if you are worried about that sort of thing

    • @angelasim5999
      @angelasim5999 5 років тому

      Evan Thomas the osprey is real nice but once packed the front pockets aren't very useful, especially the water bottle pockets. It's also hard to get into the quick access so its not very quick. But it is so comfortable do walk around with. Oh well my search continues. Thanks for your video. Hope you have a good Holiday Season🤶

    • @evanthomas12
      @evanthomas12  8 років тому +2

      +RVAdventurer I'd still highly recommend the pack. You have to remember that a logo isn't going to be the tell tale sign that you are a backpacker, it will be your accent and overal appearance that will give it away first. I was advised not to go for brightly colored packs as they draw the eye easier. There is a navy blue version of this which has bright yellow graphics, not ideal.
      If it does still concern you, why not chuck a badge or something over the top?

    • @xxVeronica92xx

      +Evan Thomas I got the navy blue one today :( They ran out of the green one which is what I wanted. I hope it will be okay. So nervous!

      +xxVeronica92xx I ordered the navy blue one yesturday. I think i am just going to spray paint the bright neon color, and logo. My primary reason for buying this was because of the antitheft features, and lightweight.

      Hi Random Guy, you might like to take a look at Eagle Creek's Pack-It Specter Cubes and compression cubes. I don't travel without them. They are ultra light and strong and make pack organization a breeze. They are available online pretty much everywere. Think Evan's are an older Australian brand. Happy travels:)

      Definitly achievable in summer, Just take some lighter/less bulky canvas shoes. The Ones I had in this video took up far too much space

    Did they ever measure the size of your bag or was it just weight?

    • @evanthomas12
      @evanthomas12  7 років тому

      Nick Pyne most of the time they didn't even weigh it to be honest. Since it looks like a standard backpack, you'd just be let straight through

      Evan's quite right. It's dimensions fit most international airlines. Remember if you change airlines that the lowest weight and linear dimensions apply (might be pushing it on Ryan, lol!!!). I tension mine down so I don't attract attention. Happy Travels:)

    Can this work with a slim laptop 1.2 kg as it\s geavier and larger especialy with the charger ....

    • @princesswearshikingboots4479
      @princesswearshikingboots4479 6 років тому

      Hi Pentru. Sure it will work but will need to be considered in your weight allowance if you wish to travel carry on only. Maybe you could consider a lighter tablet? If you take your valuable computer be careful not to place sharp objects in the other compartments above and below, lol!!! Happy travels:)

    Hi Evan, I read some interviews that the backpack is uncomfortable. What is your opinion about the comfort of the backpack? i doubt between the safepac and the minaal. thank you in advance!

    • @evanthomas12
      @evanthomas12  8 років тому

      I was considering the minaal too for awhile but decided against it because if the higher price and its tiny hip straps, this one has wider ones to help spread the load and I used them all the time. Neither of these packs are going to be overly comfortable for long periods of time like a tramping pack, and don't have good ventilation but personally i find packs without decent hip straps unbearable.
