Hello ! New subscriber here. I have a question, which I hope you can answer. My husband had a brass decorative statue in the living room - Devi about 20 inches tall, with 4 hands, right hand the Chakra, left had the conch, but she stands on the head of a bull. My opinion was that the maker had no idea about details since it was only a decorative piece. I was not happy with people putting up their feet(with shoes), setting down coffee cups etc, next to the statue. So I moved it to my pooja cupboard. When my mother visited, she said, I had to dress the Devi. Slowly, starting with a saree, I started to decorate the idol more and more. My family says the idol does not represent any God because of the mixed details(and so cannot be worshipped ??). But I have come to love the idol and offer my sincere prayers every day. I live in the US - leave home for work at 8:30am and return around 7pm. I cannot perform abhishekam or offer ritual pooja. I light the lamp and say my prayers every day. On festival days I offer prasadam. That is all. (We are an older couple with no children) My worry is that - if a statue is more than 2 inches tall, one has to offer regular worship, prasadam and treat the idol like a living person OR not have a statue. Am I doing something wrong? Can you offer any advice or direction, please. Thank you.
