Water Tower Love Leads to Love for Water

For several years now, the most popular video on the City of Plano’s UA-cam channel is an out-of-service water tower being taken down. The water tower falling down has captured imaginations worldwide, and is particularly fascinating to young children.
The City regularly hears from moms and dads, sharing their child's love of our water towers. Some of the children have Plano water tower birthday parties. Others dress up as a Plano water tower for Halloween and recreate the water tower demolition.
The City decided to start the water engineering employment pipeline early by nurturing this nurture love for our Plano water towers with a gift of a Future Water Tower Worker t-shirt. With the Plano Water Tower t-shirt also comes a handwritten encouragement that working in water will help benefit everyone in the community. This encouragement hopefully can humanize local government and plant the seed for what could be a lifelong career in water. And it all started with the tipping of a tower.
