Such a haunting song, fittingly. My best band of my youthful days, the best days of my life. What memories all their albums gave me is phenomenal. Ever lasting impression. Flying down 👇.
My second ever gig was watching them in 1984.Caught them a few times later too. They rocked hard and loud and magnificently. With Pete at the side.Classic.
The Bunnymen were simply incomparable. They will live forever because of their music - long after some of the hyped so called superbands are but a distant memory. I saw them many times in the early 80's and they moved me like no other band before or since. Pete*
This is truly amazing clip - thanks for posting. I too listen to them EVERYDAY and never get bored. They are a great band. No one sounds like the Bunnymen!
Beautiful song so charged of nostalgy. I now realize the images were filmed in Florence, (Italy) city centre: Ponte Vecchio, lungarni, Piazza de la Signoria...
This is such an incredible song. So full of emotions. Straight from the heart. Listen carefully and you will feel the pain. Echo and The Bunnymen have made some fantastic songs. This song is the best they ever made.
Specials thinks tonight for my Doggy Dog,my only friend in my world of Dreams,Love and Music,ZIMBO who was gone for Paradise for Eternity. My Dog ZIMBO never i forget you because you are always in my heart and in my mind forever and ever!!!!You are my sunshine in my night until the end of my days.See you soon in the stars of my life. You are like me,alone but ours angels are always with us.I Love You ZIMBO and i will cry all the night for you but rest in peace and one day i follow you and no more fear for you and me my Berger Allemand and nobody scared you and me.Since 5 years my life is bad without you because i'm still ill and now i have no more friends and my family don't understand me because all people are crazy, sure all crazy, but don't be afraid i will survive only for you in this cruel world just in memory of you ZIMBO my king of the DOGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This live performance/recording is pure greatness. And the images here...thank you, from one who walked under these arches and over that bridge just the other day.
I can't remember if I've thanked you for posting this already. This is my favorite version of all I've heard. Live In Liverpool has some great performances. Thank you.
Seen this band soooo many times. Getting to some was a trauma - Cucccucumber, Caccccacacaccabage .. Fuck me (scuse the French) .. But Zimbo is my all time number one by this band. Last time I saw them was at the o2 In L'Pool when they did Ocean Rain .. Truly awesome. An enigma of a band.
Flying And you know I'm not coming down You're trying But you know you must soon go down All my colours Turn to clouds All my colours Turn to cloud Zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo Zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo Zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo Zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo What d'you say When your heart's in pieces How to play Those cards in sequence That box you gave me Burned nicely That box you gave me Burned nicely Zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo Zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo Zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo zimbo Zimbo zimbo…
all my colours turn to clouds is a wonderful line...whole piece is wonderful bunnymen...there are lots of comments about the nonsense sounds these days and sometimes you just have to agree that there was some truly great music around once...upon a time
I agree borgmeister....Saw these lads in concert in Norfolk,VA shortly after the release of 'Ocean Rain':superb!...One of the all-time tightest bands since the Velvets themselves. But there still is great music. You just have to rummage for it.
My point is that some of the bands, according about what i know (i'm from Portugal) were an oportunirtuy to music industry as predators construct a fashion, a movement. Malcolm Mclaren knew that. The factory was pure, they don't even had contracts. But all most major labels were predators. And Who cares? Music it what remains. Echo was a great band, i still listen almost everyday.
You know, I agree. I know who you mean by "superbands" and I don't have the same opinion, I think "they" had a lot of good songs too. But the Bunnymen were really something else and didn't get discovered the way they should.
This great version comes from 2001's concert in the LIPA which sadly, for obvious reasons, does not feature Pete de Freitas. Out of so many choices my favourite version is the Echo & The Burundimen version from WOMAD, available on the 4 disc "Crystal Days" collection. As for the video, this could be by any one of Anton Corbijn, Bill Butt or Jake Brockman. I think that it is related to some footage which appears on the old "Pictures on My Wall" vhs compilation.
There is something really sad about this footage, even though it's just them on tour. Maybe because they're young, maybe it's because it's grainy, maybe it's the song with it, or maybe it's because Pete's in it but I can't help but feel sad when I watch it. I used to prefer the versions with the fast drumming but this is now my favourite version of this song.
Nice one dizzypuppy - I certainly meant no disrespect to any other band ( I'm a singer / songwriter myself and it's a cut throat business ) my angst is aimed at the money making moguls of the industry who are the ones who decide who the mainstream get to listen to - thank the lord for new technology which allows artists more freedom
That song! Echo and Bunnymen were the best group ever! Best than Joy Division and those mechandising from Manchester. That sold us a guy called New Order. Echo and the Bunnymen were the best band Ever! Political, coherent, and genious.
@onecatfromhell They have released new albums Last one was the fountain .....not like their old stuff but still really good! I have to agree with you though, I wish I could go back i time :-)
Well in Europe, there are eggs made of chocolate marketed for kids that open up and have some sort of toy in them. They're usually made in Germany and called "Kinder Surprise". Hope that solves it for you. :-)
27 years, the life really isn't fair sometimes. God bless him.
A tribute to the late Pete De Freitas, RIP. An awesome drummer, and very nice person to boot.
Haunting! Best video ever about the bunnymen. Perfect song, perfect images...
our youth is gone but it was a great time to live....
Didier D love it
Didier D indeed
I think youth is over-rated...
Uok
Those shots of Pete at the beginning make me feel so old and make me cry so much. This is a wonderful song but mainly this clip makes me want to cry.
Such a haunting song, fittingly. My best band of my youthful days, the best days of my life. What memories all their albums gave me is phenomenal. Ever lasting impression. Flying down 👇.
Loved this comment. Exactly how I've felt all along listening to the Bunnymen.
Ethereal; elegiac; pure Echo.😢 Seems an eternity ago that this song was released; but is timeless and will echo down the ages.
I still cannot believe there are not more people who think that this is the tune of their lifetime
I'm pretty sure there are many, many more than you think!
dustinzk I know. Mine is Threshold by DCD.
Probably one of the best songs ever.
Pete de Freitas = Beautiful and criminally underrated . RIP x
My second ever gig was watching them in 1984.Caught them a few times later too.
They rocked hard and loud and magnificently.
With Pete at the side.Classic.
What an amazing version of an incredibly deep and beautiful song. RIP Pete.

RIP Pete, you had so much more to give. God bless you.

My tuxedo cat Zimbo always stops by when I’m listening to this song... He’s very special with such a strong name
Wtf my family also had a tuxedo cat called Zimbo!
Ero presente a quel concerto nel loggiato degli Uffizi 1981. Stupendo! Un ricordo indimenticabile di un avvenimento avvenuto a 100 metri da casa.
shivers down my spine... the drums and guitar are wonderful... beautiful.
Mille fois écouté et toujours la même émotion. Une pépite qui scintille avec la même force depuis sa sortie. Forever ❤️
"That box you gave me, it burned nicely."-Best lyric ever-

by far the best version of Zimbo, for me.
Comme une envie de me remettre dans ce doux spleen qui accompagnait mes premiers envols .
My favorite version of this song. And the video;well done!
ricordi fantastici di una gioventù libera e spensierata
Love this song, Ian had, still has the best voice in music.
Great version. Great vocal, impassioned.
Really well constructed documenrary for the soundtrack. The editing is full of symbolism and is hauntingly sympathetic.
It's heartbreaking, the video and the song.

I agree borgmeister....Saw these lads in concert in Norfolk,VA shortly after the release of 'Ocean Rain':superb!...One of the all-time tightest bands since the Velvets themselves. But there still is great music. You just have to rummage for it.

@999Cinderwolf actually i think they owe us something: a comeback with new songs and not with the old ones!!!
- I named my beloved dog Zim-Zim after this song.
Zimbo
What was this box that burned nicely?
