I was lucky enough to be on this ship when it was first inaugurated in 2015! I was just in an interior cabin but it was still one of my best vacations!
Besides the mini-suite bathroom being larger (older ships have a full bathtub in the bathrooms) and robes and slippers available for guests, the cabin is slightly larger and there is usually a pullout sofa bed for two kids - mini-suite sleeps a total of four, where the balcony sofa does not pull out and only sleeps one - balcony sleeps a total of three. This might vary from ship to ship.
Well, if I'm going to spend 60% of my time in the bathroom, sure, a larger bathroom would be nice. But my educated guess is I'll spend more time somewhere else....
I stayed in a mini suite on Norwegian Encore and went to tour the standard balcony to find out the differences. Not much in it I didn't think! That shower is amazzzzzing though :)
Perhaps it is not true on this ship, but I thought that on most cruises the motivation for paying for the lowest level of "suite" was things like access to the exclusive lounge and restaurant where you can get away from the hoipoloi.
Hubs and I were on the NCL Getaway and we were 'upgraded' to the mini suite. So not worth it unless you are going to spend all your time in the nice bathrooms that are in the mini suites!
Was the balcony the same? I've always wondered about the difference between the two. Even though a larger shower space would be enjoyable... That's not worth the extra money to me. Now a larger balcony might be. But no, not a shower.
Exactly the same and yes it just a bigger shower and a lil more space in the bathroom (double sink) and you bvlgari products a robe and the shower has was I dubbed car wash jets.... never again thankfully it was a last minute deal last August and I’m currently looking into last minute solo travel deals bc they are the best never get a studio bc it’s cheaper to go alone on a balcony he’ll the jr suite was 800 for 7 days outta Miami and it wasn’t the epic thank god I hate that boat
The cabin with the larger washroom is actually for wheelchair-bound guests. It is not a mini-suite. There are only a very limited number of cabins like this on any cruise ship. The room charge is the same as a normal cabin of the same class.
Jesse Fok I think that’s incorrect. I’ve seen lots of videos of mini suites as well as the diagram for our cabin and the larger washroom is a feature of all mini suites, not just the accessible ones.
Balcony is bigger in mini suite. Balcony 207 sq ft, 32 sq ft balcony Mini suite 251 sq ft, 44 sq ft balcony. I don’t think the entire extra 44 sq ft inside room is in the bathroom.
I was surprised that the only difference was the bathroom. I have only seen both cabins on Princess and their mini suites have the couch while the balcony cabins do not. Mini suites also have a bathtub. Hopefully one day we can enjoy a suite. Thanks for another great video.
It sounded like you were concerned that the wide angle lens would distort your face. This is a common misconception. It is not the angle of the lens that is important -- it's how close the camera is to your face. No matter what the distance, the camera is capturing roughly the same thing your eye would. You're just not used to seeing faces from less than a couple of feet away.
If your one of those people who spend hours in the bathroom its worth the price.. For me its do your business whether it be a shower or the potty and quickly move on.. I can use the several hundred dollar difference for better things that don't drain or flush away.....
Loved the Escape! The USB Ports were awesome! Sailing on the Bliss in January. Counting down the days. :) We are in a aft cabin, but next time it will be a mini sweet. That bathroom and a larger balcony is worth it.
I had to re-read the title of the video to see what ship it was. Other than the NCL branded stuff, it looked like you were in the Balcony cabin I had on the Anthem of the Seas
I’ve only had a balcony cabin on the RCCL, and the last was on the Harmony of the Seas. The balcony cabin was much larger, this cabin looked cramped to me. My bed was next to the balcony and there was a substantial amount of room between my table and couch. It was roomy and airy, but it might be because it was a larger ship.
Whoa! The mini suite = double sink bathroom and larger shower?! WTF? Save your money!!!! I'm still sold on Celebrity! Can't wait to cruise on the Apex in 2023, which is the future sister ship of Edge!
omg. the eating... i just went on a first cruise... we ate so often compared to at home! it became a running joke when we were just on ship wondering what to do for a while "well we havent eaten in a couple hours, we could eat" lol. At home if you abandon your dinner mess it just waits for you, no staff to take it away and wash it for you. We even tried putting our dishes just outside the door on the porch to see if hteyd be taken away for us, but nope, they were left, we had to deal with them ourselves... nobodys been by to make our beds and there hasnt been bacon and eggs breakfast waiting for us in days either... (yes, im joking about half of that... but its so easy to get used to not having to clean up and things just being ready!! lol)
I totally know what you mean! And when you are at a bakery and ask for a muffin out of the display, they want you to PAY for it! :-P Did you see my t-shirt about this whole ordeal?

For some reason having been on a cruise makes you want to watch videos about cruises 😂 I watched some others but your mannerisms when talking on camera keep me interested in watching! lol, I found some of the others kinda boring.... oops should i say that... 😶 Luckily, we went with experienced cruisers so we got to learn some of the ins and outs first time out. I thought the carnival sail and signs were just randomly different colours! Turns out they mean something. And the adults area we found. That area that most people dont know about at the bow of the ship, sort of in front of the cabin hallways. We took off from the first port with that view 💖
Very interesting to see what cabins on other cruises lines look like. And how big or small they are. I really like the bathroom in the mini suite, it looks elegant. The rest is not really fancier than the standard cabin. Very cool, Morgan, I'm already looking forward to the next cruise video!

It's not like I'm going to ask you anything crazy like to re-edit the video showing that you didn't leave it upside down, or better yet fixing it and re-filming that part.
I didn't notice that until I was editing the video! It bothered me, too! I bet it was upside down because my mom probably picked it up when she came into the bathroom to see what it was and then didn't notice she put it back upside down. Know what I mean?
For anybody who has the drink package and takes anything out of the mini fridge, you either got money to blow or you're impatient af 🤣. I would get 2 drinks from the bar to bring back in my room lol

We've found that the only difference in the 2 rooms is the size of the bathrooms...... I think some of the amenities (the bathrobes, slippers, and bath products) were because they upgraded you to VIP. I don't think those are standard in a mini suite. But, I'd still do the mini suite again (If I wasn't in the Haven..lol).

Hi! Thanks for posting this great video! I'm going on my first NCL cruise to New England/Canada on Gem. I originally had Balcony on mid ship Deck 10 for my husband, myself, and tween age daughter. I just upgraded to Mini Suite because I thought it would be more spacious for my tween. We are now on Deck 11 mid ship directly below the public showers near the pool area. After watching this video, I'm debating going back to our Balcony midship on Deck 10 since they are both basically the same size. Do you think we will regret having a mini suite on Deck 11?
I don't know what it's like on the Gem, but on the Escape, the only extra space compared to a normal balcony cabin was in the bathroom... so I guess you have to decide if THAT is worth it to you.
A 32sq ft balcony as you know now is for 2 persons and a table. When traveling you really need to research the ships and rooms closely yourself as in life everyone believes they have all the answers. You need to make those decisions for yourself and your family but compare ALL dimensions and read, read and read some more of the ship you are thinking of vacationing on. Then look at the diagrams very carefully and floor diagrams then use UA-cam VIDEOS. They can't be wrong if they are complete. Happy Voyage in the future.
Norwegians older ships have very outdated rooms. Norwegian didnt start building large ships until 2009 with the epic. Rcl has lots of big ships e.g. the mariner which are much bigger then the ncl ships of that time. You only think royals ships have less modern cabins because you are comparing norwegians newer ships with royals older ships. Rcls new ships are just as modern as ncls
Because there are hundreds of cabins on every deck, there really is on place away from human traffic. There will always be people walking down the hallways to get to and from their cabins.
Not sure I would pay extra for bigger shower n a robe !! Sure I could put the extra cash to better use .Lovely that your cruising with your mum , hope my son wants to do that with me when he's older lol.
It looks so much more elegant than Carnival. I love my Carnival but the constant bugging me to take pictures and for a drink all day every day is starting to bug me. Do they do that on Norwegian Cruise Lines?
Oh no, lol, separate complaints. From the moment you step on the ship they ask to take your picture. It's cute and all but you are tired and just want to sit down from the traveling and waiting in lines. Then they ask through-out the trip every time you get off at a port and during dinner while sitting and eating. At first I thought it was nice because you have guarantee vacation pictures (that you have to pay for if you want them of course), but now I find it tedious and they get annoyed when you tell them politely no. For the drinks, it's fine with them walking around the ship but then then they are walking around during the shows constantly in the way and comedy shows. During the restaurants they don't just walk around silently, they shout loudly "drinks" "Bahama mamas" "We have a new shots, Sealed with a Kiss" then shove it in your face and make you make eye contact to say no. I just came from a cruise and just watching your videos made me feel like I came from a cruise line that I am growing out of.
Well, the way you describe it definitely makes it sound not very appealing! I have yet to cruise with Carnival, but it's on my list! I want to compare. Have you never cruised on a different line?
No only Carnival. Everything seems so much more expensive but that may need to go down on my priority list. There are so many out there. I like watching videos like these to see what I have been missing out on.
Thanks for the video! Very nice to see the distinction. The difference in price between the 2 was minimal for us & we use the bathroom a lot (the normal ones are usually too cramped for both me and my wife to be there simultaneously), plus it’s my birthday cruise so we decided it was worth it.

Ok Peace yeah the tv doesn’t move tonface the couch... they’re may have been a bit more space between couch and bed because I did balcony 16 on getaway 17 epic and breakaway and getaway again out of Miami which I prefer over the epic I do not like kids under 21 allowed in osheehans I didn’t notice the space difference in the jr suite but I was solo traveling when I got the mini suite and I got a robe bvlgari a bigger sink bathroom and the cabin is identical the dual sinks weren’t necessary and I hated the sprayers in the shower
"Mini Suite" on Norwegian is SMALLER than a regular standard sized cabin on Holland America. Some of the Norwegian "balconies" are only 30 square feet.
All that extra money for a VERY SLIGHTLY larger crapper? That’s why I always stick with a simple inside room! As I don’t spend a lot of time in the room anyway. Just to shower and sleep
1gr8chef123 I agree. we were in an inside cabin on the Getaway and it was lovely and large and quiet. We chose a A Large Balcony on the Epic because we wanted to see the Italian shoreline and it was wonderful too yet slightly noisier as people like to slam their patio doors. We are hoping to cruise again next year on the Getaway and will choose an interior room again. There is so much outdoor space on the ships with the boardwalk area and we love that.

Ok, that safe is ridiculous, and small enough to prevent me from sailing on NCL - Every Royal ship, Princess ship, and hotel room (that has had one) has a safe big enough to put ipads AND a full-sized SLR in it, along with phones, wallets, and passports. @@jessefok This is not a handicap accessible wheelchair room. They are equipped with a ROLL-IN shower and ROLL-UNDER sink to accommodate the chair. 🦼

The mini suite (now called a club suite) on the ncl dawn and star has a bathtub vs a shower and a larger balcony.

Actually the room in general is slightly bigger than a normal one so it is bigger and you also get a bigger shower

It's a GoPro Hero 5 and I had it on 1080/Linear or perhaps Medium. Are you cruising soon?

NCL rooms look way more modern than those on RCI (big exception being quantum class), although i slightly prefer RCI's ship design

I'm pretty sure it was exactly the same. The "room" part of the cabins was almost exactly alike. It was only the bathroom that was larger.

I don’t think the bed is a standard size, actually. It seemed as wide as a king, but somehow shorter. Sorry I can’t give you more concrete details

It looks so much more elegant than Carnival. I love my Carnival but the constant bugging me to take pictures and for a drink all day every day is starting to bug me. Do they do that on Norwegian Cruise Lines?
What? You have to take a picture to get a drink? I'm confused? Either way, I don't think they do anything like that on NCL!
Oh no, lol, separate complaints. From the moment you step on the ship they ask to take your picture. It's cute and all but you are tired and just want to sit down from the traveling and waiting in lines. Then they ask through-out the trip every time you get off at a port and during dinner while sitting and eating. At first I thought it was nice because you have guarantee vacation pictures (that you have to pay for if you want them of course), but now I find it tedious and they get annoyed when you tell them politely no.
For the drinks, it's fine with them walking around the ship but then then they are walking around during the shows constantly in the way and comedy shows. During the restaurants they don't just walk around silently, they shout loudly "drinks" "Bahama mamas" "We have a new shots, Sealed with a Kiss" then shove it in your face and make you make eye contact to say no.
I just came from a cruise and just watching your videos made me feel like I came from a cruise line that I am growing out of.
Well, the way you describe it definitely makes it sound not very appealing! I have yet to cruise with Carnival, but it's on my list! I want to compare. Have you never cruised on a different line?
No only Carnival. Everything seems so much more expensive but that may need to go down on my priority list. There are so many out there. I like watching videos like these to see what I have been missing out on.

Thanks for the video! Very nice to see the distinction. The difference in price between the 2 was minimal for us & we use the bathroom a lot (the normal ones are usually too cramped for both me and my wife to be there simultaneously), plus it’s my birthday cruise so we decided it was worth it.
The answer is yes more storage better cabin at least on the getaway much nicer
Ok Peace now I found no difference between a balcony and jr aka mini suite other than bathroom and shower had as I dubbed car wash sprayers
@@Doritsboobshadow on the getaway there was have not been on the ship you were on but getaway mini suite even had foot stools thay would open up for storage which was cool there was one thing i didn't like was the place were the tv was
Ok Peace yeah the tv doesn’t move tonface the couch... they’re may have been a bit more space between couch and bed because I did balcony 16 on getaway 17 epic and breakaway and getaway again out of Miami which I prefer over the epic I do not like kids under 21 allowed in osheehans I didn’t notice the space difference in the jr suite but I was solo traveling when I got the mini suite and I got a robe bvlgari a bigger sink bathroom and the cabin is identical the dual sinks weren’t necessary and I hated the sprayers in the shower

"Mini Suite" on Norwegian is SMALLER than a regular standard sized cabin on Holland America. Some of the Norwegian "balconies" are only 30 square feet.
All that extra money for a VERY SLIGHTLY larger crapper? That’s why I always stick with a simple inside room! As I don’t spend a lot of time in the room anyway. Just to shower and sleep
1gr8chef123 I agree. we were in an inside cabin on the Getaway and it was lovely and large and quiet. We chose a A Large Balcony on the Epic because we wanted to see the Italian shoreline and it was wonderful too yet slightly noisier as people like to slam their patio doors. We are hoping to cruise again next year on the Getaway and will choose an interior room again. There is so much outdoor space on the ships with the boardwalk area and we love that.

Just got off the escape on the 20th, we had an aft balcony, and the bed was king size.

We didn’t get double points on Norwegian Cruise Lines for being in a mini suite. You might have been mistaken that for a jr suit on Royal Caribbean.

Ok, that safe is ridiculous, and small enough to prevent me from sailing on NCL - Every Royal ship, Princess ship, and hotel room (that has had one) has a safe big enough to put ipads AND a full-sized SLR in it, along with phones, wallets, and passports. What are they thinking? Thanks for the video (aka warning!).
