People complain how Ned was a fool. But a lot people trusted Jon BECAUSE Ned was an honorable man. Because he was trustworthy and good. Yes, he died because of his honor, but none of his children would be where they are without that honor and loyalty.
And people ignore the fact that Ned Stark is the Single reason for why Jon Snow Always tries to do the right thing and look out for those at a disadvantage...because Ned taught Jon how to behave like him...And much like Jon, Ned's desire to do the right thing led him to give away his plans to Cersei because he was more concern with not getting Cersei's children in trouble than about his own personal safety. And he paid the price for it. Just like Jon Snow, who paid the price for helping the wildlings. That's what I love so much about Ned Stark really....and by extension, his nephew Jon Snow

You know a good person when even their enemies respect them. The Targeryens, Lannisters and the Baratheons to an extent (Stannis and Robert) ruled with varying levels of fear. Fear is powerful but it is also brittle. Once those that fear you smell vulnerability, they will not hesitate to lunge for your throat because Fear breeds hatred and once that fear is gone, the hatred remains and it will destroy you utterly.

Since the first episode I loved Neds character and how he's respected for being loyal and honorable his character played a good husband and father too.
Sometimes you are forced to lie like ned about jon snows Heritage. Sometimes telling the truth can bring great misfortune.. However if you are known for telling the truth, like ned, people believe you barely making a second thought and it helps unless you be met with a person like cersei (popular) powerful and manipulative.. We all have weaknesses tho (sorry for my long meaningless response)

That family has been to hell and back, I only hope now Jon is charge he can bring them back together and they will have a chance at being a family again. Look around you, do you see people with standards and values ? Idols they would die for ? There are not many of them left. In our society, you concentrate on your own advantage, you care more about yourself than about anybody else. It would be a selfish and egoistic world. In my view, honourable behaviour is not something bad. It shows the difference between a boy and a man.
The starks have always put duty first. A stark built the wall. The starks have always been in the nights watch. When aegon invaded and all the other kings fought and ended with their armies castles lands and people burned in was the stark king that gave up being a king to save his people. It proves power and money mean nothing to them just their responsibility to their people.
The northerers are different more honourable , the Starks are different from the rest too... Honour, love and family , they proved no matter how much evil tries to destroy them , they will always win.
I still love that Jon Umber was arguing to lead the van. He wanted to be in the most dangerous part of battles. Usually a vanguard leader was reluctant.

Yet even being soused as f*ck, it still took éight men to subdue the Greatjon, of which the Greatjon still killed two, and gravely wounded a third.

The starks have always put duty first. A stark built the wall. The starks have always been in the nights watch. When aegon invaded and all the other kings fought and ended with their armies castles lands and people burned in was the stark king that gave up being a king to save his people. It proves power and money mean nothing to them just their responsibility to their people.

I still love that Jon Umber was arguing to lead the van. He wanted to be in the most dangerous part of battles. Usually a vanguard leader was reluctant.
Fun fact; Jon Umber IS the most dangerous part of the battles!
To give a bit of an imagine of how mighty a man Jon Umber was: In the books is a passage about him during the Red Wedding, where they challenged him to a drinking contest, where he drank three men in a row, completely under the table(as a tactic: to incapacitate him whilst drunk, when the murders took place!). Yet even being soused as f*ck, it still took éight men to subdue the Greatjon, of which the Greatjon still killed two, and gravely wounded a third.
