People complain how Ned was a fool. But a lot people trusted Jon BECAUSE Ned was an honorable man. Because he was trustworthy and good. Yes, he died because of his honor, but none of his children would be where they are without that honor and loyalty.

    • @undrielgrenger53

And people ignore the fact that Ned Stark is the Single reason for why Jon Snow Always tries to do the right thing and look out for those at a disadvantage...because Ned taught Jon how to behave like him...And much like Jon, Ned's desire to do the right thing led him to give away his plans to Cersei because he was more concern with not getting Cersei's children in trouble than about his own personal safety. And he paid the price for it. Just like Jon Snow, who paid the price for helping the wildlings.
That's what I love so much about Ned Stark really....and by extension, his nephew Jon Snow

@@timidowuyes but the guy is correct in a way. Ned’s legacy is fondly remembered by his children and the other high-lords who knew him.
The only ones who doubted Ned’s honour were the lowborns and the corrupt nobles in King’s landing like Janos and Joffery who knew nothing. People still talk about Ned in great respect long after he is dead. This is one of the central themes in Asoiaf.
Yes Honour got him killed and many members of his family, but it made him a standard for all of Westeros. What a man should strive to be. People who lacked Ned’s virtue, integrity, and honour won at first but were rewarded with nothing. Not even their legacy is immortalized in a respectable look. Freys, Lannisters, Boltons, Littlefinger, Slynt, Greyjoys, etc.

Exhiled Silence screwing up once doesn’t mean it’s truly forgotten, the way Ned and Howland Reed took down Arthur Dayne was dishonorable but lived a life full of honor afterwards and is still known to this day as one of the most honorable men. Catelyn freed Jaime to save her daughters, and because of that, Sansa is still alive to this day. and Robb broke that oath because he was in love with a girl.

People love to talk down at the Starks for their honour but it's that honour that has let them survive and rule the North for millennia. It was that honour that cemented the loyalty of the (most) northern houses. It was that honour that Ned had that has helped his children to survive up to this point. You know a good person when even their enemies respect them.
The Targeryens, Lannisters and the Baratheons to an extent (Stannis and Robert) ruled with varying levels of fear. Fear is powerful but it is also brittle. Once those that fear you smell vulnerability, they will not hesitate to lunge for your throat because Fear breeds hatred and once that fear is gone, the hatred remains and it will destroy you utterly.

I hate the fact that Ned died... he had soo much things to say... it was his fault though he gave cercei a chance to leave and told her everything he knew... that got him killed even after Joeffrey's death I didnt felled any better about Ned... Sean Bean did such a great job

Look around you, do you see people with standards and values ?
Idols they would die for ?
There are not many of them left. In our society, you concentrate on your own advantage, you care more about yourself than about anybody else. It would be a selfish and egoistic world.
In my view, honourable behaviour is not something bad. It shows the difference between a boy and a man.

The starks have always put duty first. A stark built the wall. The starks have always been in the nights watch. When aegon invaded and all the other kings fought and ended with their armies castles lands and people burned in was the stark king that gave up being a king to save his people. It proves power and money mean nothing to them just their responsibility to their people.

I still love that Jon Umber was arguing to lead the van. He wanted to be in the most dangerous part of battles. Usually a vanguard leader was reluctant.

    • @thegreenreaper6660
      @thegreenreaper6660 3 роки тому

Fun fact; Jon Umber IS the most dangerous part of the battles!
To give a bit of an imagine of how mighty a man Jon Umber was: In the books is a passage about him during the Red Wedding, where they challenged him to a drinking contest, where he drank three men in a row, completely under the table(as a tactic: to incapacitate him whilst drunk, when the murders took place!). Yet even being soused as f*ck, it still took éight men to subdue the Greatjon, of which the Greatjon still killed two, and gravely wounded a third.
