A few important facts: 1. There were WAY more people that said they did see the ship break in half than people that said the ship didn't break 2. People DID hear the ship breaking, basically everyone heard it. The sounds of the ship breaking apart were VERY loud and this was described by multiple witnesses
Yes, the sound was very loud, but many didn't hear it. It seems to be that those who went in the water had a harder time hearing it. The worst case was Colonel Gracie, who genuinely thought that the ship sank in the short time that he was under the water (he thought it was 2-3 minutes of being under, which was impossible, but that tells us what the frigid cold did to people's concept of time). After he surfaced, Gracie thought he heard a soft "gulp" behind him, and thought it was the ship finally disappearing--while in fact the ship was still up, breaking up, etc. So he missed a lot. The most interesting case is Jack Thayer, who was able to describe the initial break-up sounds (train on a steel bridge + pressed steel factory + china breaking) when the water first was coming onto the starboard boat deck and he was jumping; yet his descriptions of the ship after he had been in the water don't mention noise until the final plunge of the stern, which he called "deadened" noises. He also runs together the Big Plunge and the final rise of the stern as if they were the same event (as did Lightoller), thus missing the final breakup that happened in between the two. Very odd. It makes me wonder if those men got distracted for a while by several people trying to get onto their capsized boat. The reply to your post by goopyman5206 is correct in that survivors ASSUMED that the ship's machinery and boilers were dropping down through the ship when it was at a high angle. That's what happens when you assume.
I personally think it broke in half when the stern raised out of the water and the second split, why a big middle chuck is missing, broke up under the water's surface. it explains why those parts of the big section, including the big piece was later found strewn across the debris field. I don't think the stern broke off from the bow right away either. as the stern was up right in the water, it did this slight turn, that's when I think the double bottom broke off freeing the bow from the stern And then the stern slowly starts to sink.
All you have to do is read the survivors' testimonies at the US Senate hearings just days after the incident. It becomes pretty clear how the ship went down. 700 people watched the ship go down.. No mystery to it..
2:16 AM, for the plunge starting is a logical guess. Witnesses said the plunge (From even keel to breakup) was very quick. It likely started at 2;16 as testified by witnesses.
John Borland Thayer III (December 24, 1894 - September 20, 1945) was a first-class passenger on RMS Titanic who survived after the ship struck an iceberg and sank on April 15, 1912. Aged 17 at the time, he was one of only a handful of passengers to survive jumping into the frigid sea. He later wrote and privately published his recollection of the sinking. Jack Thayer
I might rembember wrong but I remember some survivors said that the other part stayed float for few moments... am I remembering that wrong? Also 2012 one is it really short enough time for sinking with that much air in it to cause implosion?
Not really. Yes that's for dramatic effect like the water splashing, but at that time, that was how they thought Titanic broke, at nearly 45⁰ angle. That's the accepted theory at that time

They corrected the port list before the plunge, the funnel falling to starboard, the ship breaking into sections (even tho I don’t agree with the towers breaking off completely at the surface), and the #4 funnel standing up, which for many seems illogical, but it makes sense due to survivor accounts saying that that funnel stood up king after the break up, and even when the stern was rising again, it did not collapse.
I think you are mistaking the THG 2020 and 2023 animations a lot. You describe the THG 2020 animation correctly but then show contrasting images of the 2023 animation which is based off of the OASOG Sinking scenario. Then you say that the THG 2020 one is the most recent when the 2023 one is the most recent. Plenty of issues in this video but I cant care enough to correct all of them

Funnily enough, we may think james cameron was exaggerating with that angle but Tutanic Honor and Glory depicts the same thing

He didn't even invent it, it goes back to Skidmore's drawing (based on Jack Thayer's sketch) done on the Carpathia the day after the sinking.
Only a U-boat torpedo hitting a ship right down the middle would cause that V-break...and that's using a lot of imagination.
Unless someone can do a FEA analysis that shows the sinking without a surface break up - I'm not buying it.
