They did explain how the 1st EMMI was so damaged. The first Chozo Memory show Raven Beak taking the EMMI apart.
My assumption is that he attacked and destroyed that EMMI, reverse engineered it and discovered how to hack the remaining EMMIs without breaking them.
If you 100% artaria you will unlock art that pretty much confirms what you just said
Indeed. Man, Raven Beak might be a douchebag but he was powerful AF.
@@marshall3254 dang, somebody should make a post about that.
He didn’t take it apart, he just damaged it w/ his hyper beam.
Also it’s more likely that he tore the faceplate off and cut the hand off at the wrist because those seem like the most vulnerable spots to do so. It was probably tough, but assuming this was the weakest emmi even before it was broken, I’d assume it wasn’t… that bad? Like his own boss encounter.
I just realized that the true final boss isn't only Samus vs Raven Beak, but Metroid vs X. That's so cool.
Ye
samus becomes the very thing she once sought to destroy too in order to defeat the parasite the metroids were originally created to do
Casual
My theory is Metroid 10 (in the year 2070) will be Metroid X, with a heavy emphasis on the X
@@hyronvalkinson1749 I agree with that
My favourite is E.M.M.I. Number 7. It is such a long, intense, and difficult fight and it looks cool when red. Lol
It was the Hardest, I think *wink wink* 😉
You cannot escape from the power bombs it drops 😬
Its an emotional battle okay?!
What do you even mean. All u had to do to beat the red Emmi is to watch a cutseane
@@bodhinathkanike4895 yeah I think Darkonaut is making fun of that fact...
My favorite boss was probably experiment Z-57. It probably took me the longest to beat and I just loved how epic and cinematic the fight was.
Dude the counter cinematic it's the Best cinematic in the game in my opinion
You can also beat him sooner than regularly if you manage shinespark him. In the section where Z-57 takes inspiration from flappy bird to take Samus out, it’s possible to hold a shinespark. The only thing is being able to land the shinespark is kinda tricky. I haven’t been able to do it. But I’ve only tried like 4 times.
Yes! Definitely was imo the only other boss that actually felt like an endgame level boss
I honestly thought Z-57 was the first boss experimented on/improved by raven beak
I agree very much
To dodge Golzuna's electro-orbs, just jump over him to the other side of the room when he sends them out.
Yeah don't know why this guy thinks you have to frame perfect land in the squares. That's way too hard.
@@Prince_Sharming Yeah its for sure more of a desperate solution if you cant get to the other side in time
*cries because I thought the same thing he did*
This boss was actually easy, just jump over him and use storm missiles
You also can speed up the fight tremendously by activating and storing speed boost as it materialises, then jumping behind iy (Golgoza always reforms facing you) and Shinesparking into its weak point which will cause it to lose about 50-75% of its HP. Heck, speedrunners even manage to shinespark twice in a row to kill it instantly but obviously it is way harder to pull off... And can cause game to softlock - so not advised for regular player.
But 1 Shinespark fight initiation is a good strategy - really helps, especially on Hard.
Fun fact about the later Central Units, you can actually Shinespark to expose the Brain, and then if you have the Screw Attack, it one shots the brain
......I wish I tried this hahaha
Tried it before experimenting it if it works
Unfortunately you can only do that to like 2 of them
@@riddlerx994 at least its quicker in the last 2
@@foodmr2022 I used it to cheese the fights in dread mode
It does explain why the first emmi is so beaten up. When you start to 100% the game, you'll start to unlock artwork. One of the pieces is a picture of raven beak standing over a broken emmi. I'm pretty sure that was the emmi you fought.
This is definitely one of the best group of bosses in a game period. I enjoyed all of them, and they felt more like something I wanted to do rather than an annoying obstacle.
I share your sentiment wholeheartedly
I agree. While I don’t really count the E.M.M.I as boss fights, I can’t think of a single boss in this game I don’t like, though obviously some are better than others.
i don’t necessarily consider the EMMI bosses but them aside, yeah i agree 100%. i never felt like i was suckerpunched or cheapshotted at all either. if you pay attention you’ll learn quick
@@deanmoriarty6015 Yeah I don’t count the EMMI’s, they’re more so obstacles.
I love how the x corrupted ravenbeak is like a fusion of him and Kraid
I think that’s what happened with kraid X, as the parasites are continuously searching for a stronger host, leading the kraid x parasite to fuse with raven beak. It was honestly horrifying but so good
SPOILER
@@korok7523 I mean… you clicked on the video of all the bosses. So…
When we didn't really see Kraid's body I was like yeah...we're gonna see him again
With the legs and the way the mouth opens, it's very likely that Z-57's Core X survived its lava bath, found Kraid's body, and eventually corrupted Raven Beak.
My favorite boss has to be Corpius.
It’s because of the setting (the cool red fog affect on the floor) and overall the boss’s design and how cool it was when he turned invisible and it visually looked pleasing to me IMO.
Not to mention the badass takedown.
Thought it was blood
@@TheRealWalt_Man, by the end of that fight, Samus was reading Corpius like a book._ What a boss takedown that was. 👌
It's amazing how even the "worst" boss in Dread is still fun. I never felt they were clunky to fight or boring.
17:38
Fun fact. This "cheese" technique might actually be a reference to Kraid's original boss fight on the NES. In that game, the ideal strategy was to tank damage and just use morph ball bombs on him until he died.
"You have to dodge Golzuna's little orb things with precision maneuvring"
Or you can, y'know, spin-jump over him and just avoid the attack altogether.
2:05 you can break the rings with a missile or charged shot
A dash melee also destroys the energy rings
@@C_XVR I was more of a missile guy but then my lil bro blew my mind when he dash melee'ed them : "what? Isn't this the only way to break them?"
Such a flexible game!
@@mourossonero You can break the sensor mines using the Dash Melee after you get the Varia Suit.
@@harlannguyen4048 I've been trying to Dash Melee more since and its such as good tool! Thanks for the tip!
Also I figured out on accident that you can break them by charge jump too, it's just less convenient than all the other ways to do it lol
Let’s all admit, Samus is badass and this game proved it. The game’s graphics are perfected and this game will revive the Metroid series
I loved how they put the checkpoints so close to the bosses. It felt like by the time I beat each one I had their patterns down instead of just feeling lucky.
Experiment No. Z-57 was my favorite boss.
Yes! He was the most fun IMO because the patterns were so... crisp. Dread had some of the best boss fights in general.
Some of his attacks seemed almost like they were from Undertale. Definitely my favorite fight in the game.
@@Smordor_Stormcrow right!
I also love it for its grab sequence. Samus riding it while Z-57 runs around the core like a panicking bull looks awesome.
@@dew7350 its grab sequence feels off to me, it feels like you only go around like 80% of the tube thing that i forgot the name of, but still land on the same platform, is that just me?
When I first plaed through metroid dread, I thought the blue EMMI didn't have an ability because I never got frozen. I thought it's only "ability" was to be able to see you from far away, which the purple one gets too.
Same
Little fun fact: Each EMMI’s ability is shown in the cutscene where you see them. EMMI 1 was broken, EMMI 2 had none, EMMI 3 could go through small corridors, EMMI 4 was fast and was stopped by a shutter door, EMMI 5 froze a creature and destroyed it by running into it, EMMI 6 shot the orb through the wall and saw Samus through it, EMMI 7 has the power bomb to break through the wall.
@@xthax9718 ever realised that the blue emmi never goes into a chase sequence?
@@fanachy7861 right, usually just freezes you until it touches you
@@fanachy7861
Doesn't it still try to get you after you destroy the Central Unit though?
For Golzuna's multi attacks instead of trying to fit in these little safe zone you can just got on the other of it. The explosions don't go through Golzuna's armor.
It may be kinda cliche but Raven Beak himself has gotta be my favorite boss, followed by Experiment No. Z-57 and finally Kraid
Edit: aaaaaaaaaand apparently you agree, would you look at that XD
It seems to be a pretty common consensus that those three and Corpius are the game's top-tier bosses. But really, it's a great set of bosses all around, with my only personal minor quibbles being the parade of Chozo bots and soldiers wearing a little thin through repetition.
@@Rodanguirus For me the Chozo warriors felt more like harder enemies not true bosses, it was fun to mess around with them after the first few ones
Kraid was by far the most enjoyable boss fight experience. His return in this game was suspicious yet completely unexpected during my first play through. I could feel his rage, hatred and his thirst for revenge against Samus. That theme song had my heart pounding. Metroid Dread is the GOTY in my opinion.
Unpopular opinion: I thought Raven Beak was too easy once you learn to counter his moves and blow up his orbs. Doing so drops a ton of ammo and health, to the point where you can afford to make mistakes infinitely if you've mastered it.
Also, Z-57 was my favorite!
For me Z-57 is ranked just below Raven Beak.
This is kinda true. Then again i died so many times trying to learn each phase, but once i did each phase was a breeze and if i messed up in the first phase and took a lot of dammage i would purposely prolong the fight just to heal up with his orb attack.
Ranked based on what I thought were the most interesting patterns & most fun to fight...
1. Experiment No. Z-57
2. Kraid
3. Raven Beak
4. Drogyga
5. Chozo Soldier(s)
6. Corpius
7. Robot Chozo Soldier
8. Escue
9. Golzuna
10. Twin Robot Chozo Soldier
My absolute favorite boss is experiment Z-57 not only was it hard but also had the best melee counter cinematic outta all bosses in the game
1:45
in the gallery, one of the pictures shows raven beak standing over the broken EMMI with smoke coming from his arm cannon, implying that he was the one that broke it
2:08 You can totally break the red rings using missiles and charge shots during the Central Unit fight. Are you referring to the sentry guns instead?
Later on, you can deal high damage to it using the Shinespark, then instant kill it using the Screw Attack. It just goes to show how powerful Samus becomes as the game progresses.
As my thoughts for the other bosses, you can Shinespark most bosses if you know where to look to build up Speedbooster.
Escue can be defeated quicker if you sequence break and get Screw Attack early, as it can bypass the effects of its lightning barrier.
The first Robo Chozo Soldier can be Shinesparked repeatedly since the lowest floor has just enough room to trigger Speedbooster.
Golzuna's boss room is big enough to Shinespark each phase once. The X-Parasite core can be one-shotted using this method too.
During Kraid's second phase, he may start shooting the spikes at you from bottom to top if you take too long to damage his belly button. By timing your jumps, you can scale up the wall to get to the magnetic lift earlier.
To be honest, even if Samus never misses an item (not using sequence breaking), it feels like she gets weaker compared to the bosses she faces (the bosses’s strength increases at a faster rate than Samus’s strength does).
@@PikKraken8
The game would be incredibly easy if the the power of the bosses were less than or equal to the power of Samus
@@harlannguyen4048 you can actually Shinespark the main Phase of Golzuna Twice for a Quick-Kill.
I do love fighting robot chozos. The big thrill is doing a parry and making the chozo in a stunned state that you can then pummel it with missles. Very satisfying
Ah man Escue is easily in my top three of the game. I love it flying around in the background of Ferenia before you fight it as you start to notice the wasp like structures over the eastern side of the map. Based of its design it was a queen. Or something of that bug species invested by a X. Also probably has my favorite boss arena and the fight itself is fun.
Music is also one of the more memorable tracks in the game.
I'll agree that the buildup to it was remarkable, also it was among the ones that felt more bossy and disorganized instead of playing a minigame of patienly avoiding attacks and exploiting openings
You can destroy the rings in the brain fights, they're there to replenish your missiles if your aim sucks. They also do increase in difficulty with the last one you fight shooting 3 of each projectile at a faster rate and projectile speed. By that point you have the Gravity Suit and tons of energy so their hits don't feel so bad, but they do still hurt.
I do agree that Escue needed more cinematics since it's the first big X we fight 🤔 But it was a nice enough fight and it did what X do. Absorb a host and corrupt it. None but one of its attacks are the ones the basic enemy uses.
It does have its nifty little "preview" scene where you see it and some brethren swarming the Chozo statue a few rooms prior. It's not a proper cinematic, but I kind of enjoy the subtlety of the in-game, "background" scenes some of the bosses get.
@@Rodanguirus That is true... It's roaming around in the background. I tend to like that too, but I guess they went too subtle cause I'm sure I would have forgotten that if it wasn't so fresh in my memory atm. And maybe, still, a cinematic for the first one feels important. Be subtle with the next one 😅
It is cool that if you sequence broke for early gravity suit you can screw attack it for a quick fight
Still haven’t finished but I’m having fun
Actually most bosses can be cheesed. Off the top of my head
Kraid: early bombs=cannon
1st Robot Chozo soldier: shinespark for quick kill
1st elite chozo x soldier: shinespark to skip first phase
Twin Robot chozo soldiers: early screw attack to trivialize
Escue: Early screw attack to trivialize and shinespark for half health
Z-57: shinespark to skip second phase
There's more but I'm just not coming up with them right now.
My favorite cheese is when you combine your smash bros samus amiibo and the switch settings where you can manually change the date. It works for all bosses except emmi.
with the twin robot chozo soldiers (later in the game, when they’re both golden) you can insta-kill both with a power bomb
Yea you can just destroy kraid if you have enough energy
I really wish they had done a bit more with the EMMIs in the late-game, the EMMI zones were legitimately nerve-wracking early on, but once you get all your movement abilities, they just kinda force you to rush through the areas until you defeat them. I only really felt scared by the first and second EMMIs, so actually 2 and 3, and that one EMMI that could hear you anywhere see you from a mile away. That one was legitimately terrifying, they were all dangerous, but that was the one I felt was most threatening. There's a big difference between a robot that can hear you within a certain range and kill you instantly, and a robot that can hear you literally ANYWHERE, chase you down endlessly, and kill you in an instant. If all the EMMI felt that threatening, this would be stupid close to a horror game.
Okay, this is the first video ive seen of this guy (was looking for some fun metroid dread videos to watch) and that nintendo land music intro, OOF, the absolute uppercut of NOSTALGIA, GYAT DAYUMM
I just wish there were more bosses. EMMIs felt like a seperate category, and anything without an in-fight grapple sequence felt like a mini boss.
I just wanna share, this was your first video I’ve ever watched and I subscribed after just watching your into animation. After finishing the video, I was right. I love your passion, thank you for making content like this, I hope you get as much satisfaction from this as I do!
They do explain how the EMMI becomes damaged. It’s in the Chozo Archives
for the golzuna fight, when the pattern is diagonal 4 space jump to the other side
I think it's interesting how you described the CUs as "sorta like a mini mother brain" since lore-wise, that's exactly what they are, so I find it funny that you just totally guessed the lore and got it right by accident
Your enthusiasm is fuel. Love this list.
When you said that the third E.M.M.I. can 'pop up out of nowhere ' you had no idea how true that was, when I got the cannon I put my back to the wall and it crawled out and snuck up behind me, catching me by complete surprise
Similar experience for me. I was camping by one of the walls, waiting for it to come down so I could bombard it. I waited for 15 seconds, and then all of a sudden I heard a noise behind me and got captured half a second later.
Fun fact; every emmi has two letters at the end of their name so if you run into the emmi that has the two last letters of MB it stands for morph ball so the last two letters of a emmi name is a hint pf what you will get
@Clifford dude at the end of every emmi’s name there are two letters look at it for your self
@Clifford
He is right.
You can read the log in the menu, there you can read the full emmie names
I love that the X Raven Beak is also Kraid. It combines those 3 monsters into one massive threat
@Clifford idk I kept wanting to call Raven Beak that at first
In the golzuna fight, when it does the almost impossible cross, you’re supposed to go to his opposite side as he blocks the lasers
The E.M.M.I are an absolute masterpiece of enemy design. Unstoppable machines that plow through everything, especially you. Every encounter with them feels like a dance with death itself. Even when Samus' cannon gets supercharged, it is never an easy fight. In fact, it's not a fight at all. It's all a game of whose faster than the other, and no matter how strong Samus is she will only win by the skin of her teeth every time.
We need to see more of these guys in the future.
These were such a good set of bosses. I think I might’ve done some of the bosses in the wrong order 😅. I got the Spider Magnet before fighting Corpius, and fought Golzuna before Escue. Storm Missiles really could’ve helped against Golzuna. I will argue with that the E.M.M.I feel more like obstacles than bosses. This was a great video tho!
12:15
actually, it's really easy to dodge the bombs; just jump up and Flash Shift behind him. The bombs only cover the half of the screen he put them on.
In retrospect thats so obvious, but I didn't think to do that until my second playthrough for some reason.
@@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502
same tbh
Wild watching this, seeing a bunch of parry animations that I missed out on. I saw a few, but I guess while playing I just doged a lot of them, kinda bummed I missed them. Also a lot of the emmis, I didn't really have much trouble with, I managed to avoid them mostly
Trust me, the central units weren't just mini mother brains to you. They are literally the most obvious Hommage to mother brain ever. It has little cannons, it has flying donuts of Doom, you have to break it's shell and pump like 50 missiles into it.
Oh yeah it also has the eye from zero mission
19:19
The one that raised, trained, and armed Samus.
The artwork you unlock basically does explain what happened to the first EMMI. Sorta. Razor Beak attacked it and tore it up. Presumably as part of his takeover of them
great video
This game is giving me butterflies just thinking about it. Currently on my way to get the ice missiles. Btw that first EMMI gave me Terminator 1 vibes. The way it was walking down on u like the T-800 after his exo skeleton got exposed
This is a fun little list, I think I might leave a like.
*Sees that he calls it super dash instead of Speed Booster*
THIS IS HERESY! 0/10!
There are 4 bosses you can quick kill and 1 you can skip.
Kraid - Morph Bombs in the nasty belly sore.
Robot Chozo - Double Shine Spark
Double robot chozo - Charged Morph Balls
Project whatever - Obviously you covered the shine spark
Drogyga - You can skip him entirely with a sequence break
I would not be surprised if there was a quick kill Raven Beak either.
I think my top 3 favorite bosses are Experiment No. 57, Raven beak, and then corpious, and here’s why. Experiment No. 57 is my favorite because I love how it’s kind of half monster and half of corpious. I also love the tactic of the laser and quickly avoiding it during the spots where he quickly stops shooting the laser. Raven beak is my second because I love the detail of the boss and the many phases. And it really ties up the story as well. And then my 3rd favorite is corpious because you’ve just started the game and it’s an amazing boss that is a little bit hard, but it really fun and do able. I also love the counter. The boss that took me the quickest was probably Drogyga, and the one that took me the longest was probably Escue not gonna lie. And Escue is also my least favorite boss in the game, not including EMMIs
I think the reason why Kraid was chained up, because the Chozo had revived him. Why they did so, I have no idea. But still bottom-line very refreshing to fight Kraid again instead of Ridley all the darn time XD
I think (this is just a theory mind you) that raven beak revived kraid to try to kill the throha tribe but failed and the throha tribe chained kraid up to stop him from destroying basically everything
My favorite was the experiment in cataris. It reminded me of the diggernaut fight from samus returns another of my favorites.
most suprising thing about the game is that Raven Beak is Samus's father
i found the double chozo bot fight extremely difficult since i didnt even know you could parry them until now. i just kept shooting missiles at them until they exploded. it was very satisfying to finish them both. still finished the game with 100%
7:50 I think a pretty cool Parry would be when it’s rushing at you, then samus grabs on it, and it starts flying through the background
Oh my god raven beak was tough as nails but it was sooooo freaking fun
11:57 For Golzuna it’s actually easy to jump over him with your multi-jump thing. So if he’s shooting the thing that shoots of in different directions, you go to the other side where you are safe and can blast him. You must make sure the orbs go to their place first, otherwise they just follow you and blast you
there’s no beating ravenbeak for me. fantastic boss fight where you learn as you play, lore heavy, amazing score, challenging but fun, and a FANTASTIC villain and ending
"Mint Condition" - Nin10doland describing white E.M.M.I
E.M.M.I. 1 (the Damaged one) in the Chozo archives is explained to be damaged due to raven beak encountering and fighting it. Also with the central units, you can break the rings, I believe with missiles. Twin robots, storm missile them with as many targets they can hold, one round for orange and it is dead, black needs two rounds of max targets. Again, chozo archives show Kraid being chained up by raven beak and his soldiers. Experiment, is shown in chozo archives, had, I believe his name was quite robe, the one that gotten shot by a robo chozo soldier, anyways experiment had gotten experimented on by that chozo.
1:45 well when you beat an area to 100% so all items etc. you get an artwork of that region and in of those regions there is a picture showing Raven Beak holding the missing arm of that Emmi standing over it
Actually the game does explain how the first emmi got damaged. You get artwork showing raven beak ripping it apart with his hands
I love this game so much I’m in the middle of a game on hard mode. My last game I beat raven beak first try when my dad hasn’t beaten him once it was super hard
16:22 I love how Sam is, isn’t even phased with krade’s appearance
20:45 so happy someone else thought of Sephiroth.
Well spoiler warning:
Raven Beak was the one responsible for damaging the first E.M.M.I, removing Corpus’s lower body, chaining up Kraid, and hacking E.M.M.I 1-7 in the Chozo memories.
I remember that Gold Robot Chozo Soldier on Ghavoran, fighting it on my first playthrough was a nightmare
Honestly I loved Kraid. Getting to see him back after so long was a treat. Only thing is I wish they remade his theme from Super Metroid and Zero Mission. Otherwise it's a great time, and fun to sequence break to try all the new little tricks too. He feels like a true classic 2D Metroid boss
fun fact about raven beak he happens to use all three ether powers from Metroid 2 Samus returns phase phase he uses the lightning shield and the time slowing one (i can't remember its name) it explains how his able to move so fast or his using flash shift but he defiantly uses the lightning shield for first phase and in his wing phase those minigun shots happen to look very similar to the hyper cannon attack
This was such an amazing game especially for being the first 2D Metroid game in 19 years!
Tbh I never connected that the Experiment was the same weird creature in that Dairon basement area until you mentioned it
That last skin for samus is so sick! Hope we could use it for a bit longer
The golden Chozo Soldier right before the final area gave me the most trouble for whatever reason. I knew exactly what I needed to do but for some reason managing the 4-5 goo shots in a row in phase 2 was something I just could not do
You can break the red rings in the central unit fights. Melee attack through them while moving side to side to get rockets and health
16:54 I didn't even know this animation existed I always jumped to the top using the Claws as platforms when he sends them out 1 by 1
Yeah I'm pretty sure this animation happens when you shoot him in the belly enough times, he covers his belly and then sends all three out at once rather than one at a time.
Correction: you can break the red rings the central brain shots out with missiles, they give health and ammo aswell
Just beat the game after 14 hours and it didn’t disappoint 🙌🏽 looking forward for prime 4
12:06 if the cross bombs cover nearly the whole area you can jump over him with the phase shift where the bombs dont reach
"Like some kind of freaky Sepiroth guy" Dude, c'mon, he say that one wing and was just like...."I'm not about to be compared to Sepiroth" and didn't hesitate to tear his own dang wing off
I love how done samus is with kraid.
My first Metroid game i completed where NES Metroid and later Snes Super Metroid.
Because of that Mother Brain is still my favorite because of nostalgia.
About the central unit, you can actually break the rings and earn missile+health. You have to run and parry them to break
I had such a hard time with Escue on hard. I found that I could speed up the process by Sparkshining him right off the bat. It wouldn't one-shot him but, it did reduce the amount of hits he needed before becoming the X.
Z57 kraid and raven beak are pretty high. The rush you get from them is thrilling
Actually the artwork you unlock from playing the game explains how that first emmi is damaged. Raven beak basically damaged it and had the other chozo reprogram it as well as the other emmis
In the central units, you can break the red rings. All you pretty much have to do is just melee dash into them
Took me 2 weeks to beat the game, not cause is long but because my limited time , anyways i loved the game , was challenging enough to keep you entertain , love the atmosphere it reminds me of metroid fusion when i was scare of the x metroid.
Btw, in case anyone is wondering why Kraid was in the game and not Ridly as well… it’s because if you follow the story line and a bit of lore Ridly has already been defeated my Samus in a previous Metroid game.
Corpius gained his powers of cloaking from the statue, we got some of our abilities from giant statues that look different from the ones with orbs. The statue looks like it would've held a cube that would have given samus the cloak and to back it up we get the cloak from a cube, same kind of cube we get from the statues.
tbh I think at first raven beak wasn't entirely corrupted by the virus at first but after having his sheer, raw power, determination and willpower sucked from him he couldn't hold back any longer, the reason he wanted to fight samus and gave samus those abilities was so he could have them all ripe for the picking, so he could fight off the virus that plagues him and defeat it once and for all, ngl it would've been so cool if he could parry us too.
For golzuna when he was doing the 4 lightning when you talk about morphball, there is an easier way to evade them and that is to wall jump and phasis and you go on the other side
For the one spread formation in the Golzuna fight you can just dash over him to the other side I tried to use the morph ball jump too but it never worked
Bro got a subscriber just for the intro alone
I literally just finished the game today!! I really liked the game!! It was very good
