Steve is the man. I bumped into Steve while I was photographing in the Tetons, he was kind enough to stop and take some time to chat with me, he is a really kind and down to earth guy and of course an amazing wildlife photographer.
Steve...Adam and I had a great time shooting with you...tracking the moose was incredible. Everyone if you are in Jackson WY spending a day shooting with Steve is worth every penny, great experience!!!
I was just out in Grand Teton last week for photography. So nice to be back. Unfortunately, the last two days were partially messed up by forest fire smoke. I saw a beautiful framed B&W photo of Grand Teton in my room at the Lodge of Jackson Hole. It made my day to see it was one of yours.
If you haven’t been on a workshop with Steve, you are missing a great opportunity to pick up valuable pointers when shooting wildlife. We had a great time with Steve; the elk did not disappoint either!
Steve, I just wanna say thank you. You're the reason I really dove into photography and it's been the greatest choice of my life! Fingers crossed one day I'll get to meet you! Also Im plagued by forgetting gear as well lol
Great Gray Owl photos. The fact that you showed how you had to work to get those final images gives the rest of us who pack along with you a better sense of the effort it often takes. Much thanks for your channel.
Well worth all the time and effort (😊) ! Great shots. Afraid I would have hiked back to the car in the dark. Just back from Tetons yesterday. Fall colors were still hanging on but things are changing fast. Where are you hiding the big animals though? Two trips over this year and no buffalo either trip. Couple of moose and elk but way too far out. Did chance upon a coyote hunting ground squirrels and got some nice shots. Still jealous of your time in the field. Enjoy and thanks again for sharing.
Nice one.. Had a super summer with the great grey here in Sweden, in a pretty small area I found 8 of them. Just hope it will be a good owl year in 25. One of the chicks was one eyed so it will be easy to recognize, yeah he even got a name, Olly the pirate owl 😅
I enjoy your wildlife videos, you give me encouragement to get myself out into nature to shoot wildlife myself. I have a Nikon 200-500 f5.6 that I pretty much never use.
Fantastic Steve.. Even The Great grey Owl at 13 minutes and 40 secs is showing it's own amazing yoga moves with the flexibility and excellent neck rotation.
God your photos are amazing! Just got a 500mm lens for my Fuji (aps-c) and its so fun to use! Super hard though since it has no stabilization and no auto focus, but I still love it. You've inspired me! Just need to figure out where there are owls around here...
Hi Steve, I just noticed that you have removed the Alphagvard lens skin from the flared part of your 400TC behind the element, any reason for this, grip better or did it just become a hassle or deteriorate? Thanks my man!
@@SteveMattheis …that mama bear and cub portrait that you just posted on instagram was phenomenal by the way. Keep up the great work! You are incredible!
Hard work pays off! Great to see out doing what you love. FYI, pleas avoid W sitting if you can. I learned the hard way after doing it over twenty years, I now have a ton of trouble with my hips. I'd hate for that to happen to you.
what do you do about the ticks walking through all that tall grass? just curious cause I reluctantly avoid areas like that unless I get a better solution
Soft - no hard lines on shadows, non directional light. Contrasty - brightness on the owl from the meadow with steep falloff to darkness behind it in the forest
I notice that the owl generally rested 10 feet or less off the ground. Is that common for that species, or others? I've only stumbled into owl sightings a couple of times and they were always higher up. Thanks!
I LOVE YOUR PICTURES STEVE THE ONES YOU POST ON FACEBOOK TOO GREETINGS FROM LAURA IN COLORADO I AM YOUR SUBSCRIBER NUMBER 1215 IM GLAD YOUR CHANNEL IS DOING AMAZING...

as always, wicked cool content Steve...
Much appreciated!

Thank you👍
Get a steri light for the water. Portal uv light
The filter works great👍
I really need to put the work in to try to find a great grey owl out better in California. I’d love to see and photograph one.
Good luck out there👍

You should do an Alaska video. I'd be curious to hear about your trip out there.
I’ll try to make time to edit one…

Ouch, bummer!
Great video, worth the trip. How do you find your way back to the car? Do you ever get lost?
Nah, I can always see the mountains so I know where I am
what do you do about the ticks walking through all that tall grass? just curious cause I reluctantly avoid areas like that unless I get a better solution
We don’t have many ticks here
Oh that's awesome, we can't do this in Ontario, way too many ticks
hey Steve, what do you mean by "soft, but contrasty" light? would appreciate your insight here, thanks.
Soft - no hard lines on shadows, non directional light. Contrasty - brightness on the owl from the meadow with steep falloff to darkness behind it in the forest
@@SteveMattheis cool, thanks!
No pooping owl this time? 😂
I notice that the owl generally rested 10 feet or less off the ground. Is that common for that species, or others? I've only stumbled into owl sightings a couple of times and they were always higher up. Thanks!
Yes that is common, except in winter when they need more speed to punch through the snow…
What kind of lens are u using?
A big one
400 f/2.8
@@SteveMattheis nice! I just a sigma 600mm but it's a pain to carry around 😭
Do you ever get turned around and get lost in the woods?
I like getting ‘lost’ out there 😬
