Zach proves once again how he is the real man of the people, by breaking down an extremely limited and sought after shoe just for us viewers to know exactly what we buy! Thank you for your great content sir, and let the haters hate and keep up the great work!!! Anytime you post a new video, I will be coming back and watching it to support the channel! :)
Favorite shoe channel by a mile, great review as always. Thank you for always going the extra mile and providing actual analysis instead of the typical ‘the shoe is comfy and it looks cool, you should buy it!’. Really helps people like me make better decisions for their feet and overall body when playing.
@FootDoctorZach your channel continues to leave the competition in the dust with your scientific approach to show reviews. 2 suggestions for videos based on this one: 1. A comparison of the OG Kobe 8’s to these. Different rubber compound and Chris from Weartesters has criticized Kobe’s protros some compared to the OG’s and these are a little heavier, I’d be interested in your in-depth review of both. 2. A vlog series where you go to a coach/trainer for basketball. I think it would also help you put shoes through tests that more closely mimic the movements of people who play basketball, plus would be entertaining. (This is not a criticism, you’ve said yourself that tennis is your main sport.)
Runners Knots are a game changer for me. I never dealt with heel slippage ever again since I been doing them. All my low cuts lock my ankles in super good now
As an OG kobe8 fan, I've enjoyed the protro 8s I've been able to get. I have a wide foot and it didn't require break in time which was fantastic. First shoe I've worn in a while without pain.
I've tried for every Kobe in the last 12 months and haven't won "the right" to buy one yet. Unfortunate.. and I turned my last kobe shoes into golf shoes 😮
so im not dreaming when on my first game using these i was wondering why my stronger foot buckled. zach's review is accurrate for my profile. out of my 5 shoe rotation, i put kobe 8 at the bottom of my list.
Kobe would be so proud up there in heaven, that his shoes really reach all level of people. The price of the Kobe shoe line and how his brand is sold, reflect how Kobe always gave attention to all kind of fans during his lifetime.😝
Had an original pair of Kobe 8s back in the day. Felt super light and great on foot but there was zero impact protection lol. Felt like these “Protros” were a big miss on Nike’s end. Could have easily given us some zoom or max air to beef up the cushioning but cant cut too much into profit margins…
I went full size on it as a 2E like it says on ur video and it feels so nice going full size as 2E and I Hope you can review the Kobe 4 n 5 in the future.
Thanks for the review Zach! Do you think some of your concerns/criticisms would be mitigated if I swapped the react midsole with a SOP Strength or Support midsole?
I love your videos man! Do u think u could review this seemingly new bball shoe? It’s the EQLZ 247 and it looks pretty cool, it’s got pebex foam and stuff, but I’m really curious what else is in the shoe
Have you tried the Serious Player 1 +? Would love your thoughts on those especially compared to these because they kinda take the shape of the low-top Kobes. Thanks!
Thanks for the details videos. I discovered your video looking for reviews and explanations to why kobe shoes are so popular amongst players. I now refer your videos to everyone who wants to understand for new shoe shopping.
I got the "Wolf Grey" edition and I slightly disagree in terms of support. I feel really secure and locked in when I put them on and never had any issues like feeling unstable or rolling my ankle. So to me, a 27 out of 40 is extremely low. But compared to the price, availability and hype this might be okay for a conclusion. But I have tested other shoes that were said to be really supportive (just like the NB Two Wxy V4) and just by walking in these other shoes I felt total discomfort and unstable. So, i cannot agree with this review. These shoes have the best traction I have ever recognized and they are lightweight and close to the ground. It's everything a shifty and speedy player needs. But, they need to be broken in. They have to be worn at least five to ten times in real practice or game situations until they really feel amazing. But then you don't want to take them off anymore.
Can the drop-in midsoles of the Zion 3 SE fit inside the Kobe 8 Protro? And if so, does it improve the shoe in terms of cushion and does it change the overall fit?
Hey Zach, I noticed on my pair I’m getting a lot of slippage. Oddly it seems to be more on the right shoe. Is there anything I can do to mitigate this?
Always been a Kobe 9 or 6 fan myself. But the newer (protro) for the price is a pass for me. Still have 3 KB9 and 2 KB6’s that are gym only pairs. I’m good.
They didn’t do this shoe justice, I feel the originals were better fitting and just better in general. That lunarlon drop in was perfect minus the durability of course.
honestly, for the price there are newer nike lines that are comparable and better for cheaper. people reselling them for crazy prices just for the name and the fact that nike promotes this by limiting them is even worse..
I have a pair of the “Halo” 8 protros and unfortunately it’s an unplayable model for me. I have a 2E flat foot and that carbon fiber shank digs into the middle of my arch
i have the venice beaches in a 10.5 and honestly i’m kinda disappointed. Even with first trying them on i don’t like how unstable they feel. They look amazing, but no where near the performance level i want. Probably going to get the AC 12 and harden 8s.
Its only react. It's a drop-in midsole. There is nothing else... However, they need quite a long time to break in but once broken in they feel amazing.
Yeah I mean if it helps even 2-3 people make a buying decision instead of having to process returns it’s worth it - honestly the only reason I don’t on these is because they’re so limited and so many people want a pair so I’d rather keep them in circulation but if and when Nike starts making them as available as the KD’s or Sabrina’s for example, then yeah I’ll start cutting them and doing the full teardowns
In the long run, I do see the Kobe’s become more less like the Jordan Retros - some are hyped, some are gonna be bricks. But it was gonna be so much cooler if we could see the actual teardown, from you especially
i love watching a review of a shoe i most likely never will have😂 and here's doc just giving us the in-depth analysis in the name of medicine❤ (i was kinda on the edge till doc didn't tear it down like usual😂😂)
im a heavier player and i have achilles tendonitis and arthritis in my knees and I bought these from stockx for 300euros in the venice beach variant. Im really sad right now but thanks for the video.
Kobes have been the exception to the rule out of respect for Kobe, Gigi, and what the shoes mean to so many people. He didn’t cut a new pair of the Kobe 6 Mambacita Protro either, but he did buy an old, beat up single of the same shoe to dissect.

I Love That Your Reviewing The Protro Line!!

I’m a fan of the x-ray view. It’s a great way to see the full shank inside the shoe when the cross-section doesn’t tell the full story.
Thanks- yeah I like it too- some shoes show up better than others depending on materials and contrast
They are coming out with xray version of this same shoe 😆
you've gotta review Kobe 4 protro's too. we appreciate your insights always.
+1
As an OG kobe8 fan, I've enjoyed the protro 8s I've been able to get. I have a wide foot and it didn't require break in time which was fantastic. First shoe I've worn in a while without pain.
Can you re-review the Kobe 6 Protro with your new system?
I’d love to hear your take on “which is the best Kobe ever? The 6 or the 8?”
Well I can tell you right now at least in my opinion it’s not the 8
Its between the 5 and the 6. The 5 imo has more support and is a bit heavier than the 6. But the 6 is lighter so its really preference in the end.
Try doing an X-Ray with your foot on it Doc, maybe it'll give us all a good loot at the fit
just imagine a foot in them then. his foot isn’t your foot so it makes no difference

you should try the kd 12 its really nice
Call me crazy but I I like a runners knot for ankle lockdown.
nothing crazy about wanting more lock down and runners knot just work without crazy tech behind it

Glad i still got the OG 8s insoles they are the best i switch the gt cut 1, 2 with the kobe 8 insoles makes the gt cut 2 great and the 1
I still have my Og 8 insole, can I just transfer it to my protro?
Not a great playing shoe but damn its beautiful. Makes sense as a collectors item.
