For anyone who actually wants to know why police touch your car there are multiple reasons
• To leave evidence if something happens to the officer and they find the car
•If someone is trying to hide anything illegal or dangerous the "tap" noise it makes will startle them, giving the officer more time to see if and/or what they are hiding
• To test the driver, depending on their reaction it could mean different things that the officer should know
