- Welcome to Gun City! In this video, Ferg and Coop take a look at the Winchester 94 30-30!
Authentically styled Model 94 lever-action rifle with forearm cap and shotgun-style buttplate. If you have wanted a beautiful, fast to the shoulder 94, take this opportunity.
A favorite of many hunters and shooters, the Short Rifle has always been fast to the shoulder, quick-swinging, lightweight and a pleasure to shoot. It was a favorite of the range rider who could snatch it from his saddle scabbard and fire faster than prairie lightning. The new Winchester® Model 94® Short Rifle has a compact 20" deeply-blued round barrel and a straight grip walnut stock. It has a rifle-style forearm, black grip cap, and a full-length magazine. It’s drilled and tapped for scope mounts, and a hammer spur extension is included with the rifle. The sights are traditional with a semi-buckhorn rear and a Marble Arms® gold bead at the muzzle. With the new Short Rifle Model 94, there’s a lot of fun waiting in the saddle, in the field or at the range.
This rifle sports a walnut stock with satin finish, authentic straight-grip styling and a blued steel forearm cap for a nostalgic look. Shotgun style buttplate for smooth and easy shouldering. Triple-checked button rifled barrel for the ultimate in accuracy and precision. Round locking bolt trunnions help ensure a smooth, quick lever throw. Top-tang safety is easy to see and operate. Rebounding hammer provides an added margin of safety. Bolt relief cut reduces hammer drag for smoother cocking. Radiused lever edges give added protection to your fingers. Hammer is drilled and tapped for knurled hammer spur extension (included) to aid in cocking and decocking the hammer when a scope is mounted. Marble Arms® front sight and adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight get you on target quickly. Steel loading gate for smoother loading. Articulated cartridge stop improves feeding reliability without damaging cartridges. Drilled and tapped for scope mounts lets you easily attach your favorite optics.

Having lived in Japan, I would say yes, Japanese made guns (like most things Japanese made) has that touch more quality and craftsmanship to it.
The Japanese are also perfectionists, and take great pride in what they do.
Thanks for your comment! - JK
I was thinking the same thing I have the American version but I would love to have a Japanese version
I had a Browning BPS made in Japan, and the walnut stock finish was horrible. One side of the stock was a completely different color than the other (much lighter). I think they forget to put the last couple of coats of finish on or something. I was very disappointed. However, the rest of the gun was very good. I know it's a sample of one, but shows the Japanese can have quality control problems too.
@@bdm1000 That's unfortunate to hear mate.
I was under the impression that companies like Miroku just made the actions and possibly the barrels.
Then companies like Browning, Vanguard etc, put whatever stock to the rifle and add the mark up for 'premium' stocks.
I may be wrong, but that definitely sucks to have a half finished stock on your BPS.
In my opinion, the Miroku made Winchesters (and they are “real” Winchesters made under licence) are likely the best reissue of the classic Winchester rifles. I have an 1886 and 1873 that are both very well done and other than a couple “modern updates” they are almost identical to the originals. The Uberti guns are pretty good but I think the current productions of Winchester are just better overall. Thanks for the video.
Great comment Tac Man, thanks! - JK
I have a 1942 model 94 in excellent shape and I hunt here in British Columbia with it regularly. I recently started looking for a chiappa Alaskan or ridgerunner to take its place. I wanted a weatherproof takedown version for packing in on my motorcycle. I lucked in to a bran new never fired Miroku 94 trails end takedown in 30/30 !
Got it cheaper than a new Chiappa. I’m planning on beating the wheels off this thing in the bush for as long as I can and my old 1942 has earned a spot above the fireplace. Beautiful Firearms.
Best hunting rifle ever made for lefties 🤜
I have 2 94s, one traditional American-made, and one Cowboy edition, also American made. They are both sleek and elegant, well handling. I also have a Henry Wildlife 30-30. Between the two, the Henry has a smoother action, albeit with a beefier, bigger bellied forehead. The 94s are very mechanical feeling, and require a forceful working. The Henry is like cutting warm butter, very easy and smooth.
I haven’t lived in Japan. But I do own pre 64 model 94 30-30 rifles post 64 model 94 rifles and the Winchester model 94 made in Japan. The Japanese made 94 is a higher quality rifle than the post 1964 Winchester rifle. But you also pay more than twice the price of a post 64 rifle. A pre 1964 production Winchester 94 rifle is a very high quality rifle. Right there with todays Japanese made Winchester. I would choose the pre 64 American made Winchester 94 in a heart beat it I had to. But since I own them all I don’t have to.
Great comment! Thanks for the insight - JK
Nice video ferg.
Thanks :) - FT
My Winchester model 94 was made in 1922. She's old and the blue is worn.
Japanese know how to make quality goods. Very nice looking rifle.
the old usa winchester 94 the best
Miroku makes awesome rifles!
We think so too! Thanks for commenting - JK
It’s all about the collectors vs the shooters. A new gun will function for the shooter. Why would you devalue your pre-64 you wouldn’t. So if you collect pre-64 if you shoot of course new.
Good point! - JK
Good morning,
I love this Winchester model, in 30x30, with saddle ring...But I NEVER see it for sale here in France from our gunsmiths, is it only exported to the USA? Could you tell me what the reference is and when it was released please... Have a nice day, and thank you in advance...
Thanks for your comment. We are based out of New Zealand, this is the model on our website : www.guncity.com/3030-winchester-94-short-rifle-blued-walnut-20-386170 - JK
It would be good if you guys could make a video showing how to disassemble this Miroku 94 as I can't find one on the tube.
We'll look into it! - JK
I have a Miroku made Winchester 92 in .357 and quality is amazing. Certainly way better quality than Henry.
Very cool! Thanks for letting us know - JK
I love American made but for modern beat around one I’d take one of these
We think we would do that too! - JK
22 mag is the way to go blocks. 😅
Is this model a 20” or 24” barrel??
20
Are these model 94s still made today??? 2024
Why is the receiver on 94th always losing its bluing. Is it because they are cheaply made
If i have the option, I'll go with American made.
Why's that Randy? - JK
@@guncitynewzealand , principle, history, support of US products and craftsmen
@@guncitynewzealand, similar to why I buy a Stetson over a Resistoll , even though Resistoll actually bought out Stetson and they are made at the same factory now.
The only reason winchester is having them made in Japan now is because it will cost more making them in the us with that quality, if they choose to bring it back to the us they can make them better than the Japanese ones they're just going to be more expensive, anyway by looking at these in the videos, the us made henry repeating arms big boy rifles look a lot better to me
... wish Miroku had left the original JMB design alone and NOT added totally unnecessary tang safeties and rebounding hammers
Post 64 American guns yes .. pre 64 American gun no.... very early American guns.. not even close.. I have an 1898 38-55 octagonal barrel.. 1906 round barrel also 38-55 and a 1956 30-30. the earlier guns are very special fit finish function.
Thanks for your comment Longshot! - FT
In Canada it is now cheaper to buy a brand new Miroku 1894 30-30 than to buy a pre-64. It goes to show that herd mentality provides opportunity. I just bought one in every calibre available and they are light years above the quality of my pre-64s. There is no comparison. Old pre-64s are mostly shot out and tired. If you want to buy a 30-30 buy a new one. They will far out price the pre-64s over time. When they stop making the Miroku's they will be priceless investments. I've bought every caliber in them. Everyone mentions "re-issue". They really aren't re-issues, the production was moved offshore. That meme was created by pre-64 owners who were afraid of losing value of their collections. They are Winchester certified production, not re-issues.
Great insight! Thanks for your comment :) - JK
Hi. I want to buy this Japanese model of 30-30. Can you please tell me where in Toronto GTA I can buy one. I checked on line but it's not available anywhere.
Great except for the saddle ring.
Japan-made anything is better than American-made. It's a cultural thing. They just do everything the best it can be done.
American-made anything is better than japan- made or non American made in general, there is just no beating the superior craftsmanship and quality of US make.
To think on it, the only decent thing Japan has ever made was their iconic katana which is similar to how we view our colt 1911s.
That used to be the case, not anymore. Everything I’ve purchased from the states nowadays has been crap and spending time there you can see why, it’s all mass produce for the consumer, no love like there used to be.
I have a 1972 model 94 beauty of a gun also have a modern bl22 made in Japan which is just as nice if not better.
Japanese rifles have no soul
The Japanese makes everything better! They have a better work ethic and pride in the products they put out!
I worked for one of the largest Japanese companies in the world for 15 years and learned a great deal of positive things from them. Their work ethic was and is still 2nd to none in my opinion. I love the good ol’ USA but I don’t see perfection in workmanship too often “here”. Sad.
Interesting! Thanks for the comment! - JK
A Jap made Winchester is a knee in the balls to an iconic piece of American history....no matter how well its buillt...jmho...USA....woods
Right , kind of like buying Chinese made cowboy hat or cowboy boots
So I guess you’re against the idea of an American made katana as well?
Katana refers to a Style of Japanese Sword and not the manufacturer of the Sword...I don't give a shit if Japan buiilds an American Style Lever gun...Just don't refer to it as a Winchester...because it is not!@@Xanduur
