    Join me for an in-depth review of the most designer hi-fi ever. The Bang Olufsen Beosound 9000 with Beolab 8000 Speakers. I explore the design philosophy behind the product, the design genius of David Lewis. I also look at how one version of the 9000 is the most expensive hi-fi ever.

    Just an FYI, the BeoLab 8000 cabinets and cones are not stainless steel, they are extruded, polished, anodized aluminum. Like many of the rest of the products in the line at the time. I was lucky to be a US dealer at the time of the world premier of the BS9000 in Paris in the summer of '95. We were in a meeting room in the Eiffel Tower when they unveiled the BS9000 on the floor stand. At the same time they opened the curtains of the meeting room to expose the skyline of Paris. It was hard to choose which to look at... most chose the BS9K!

    Another blistering review of one of our cherished b&o systems. I too, have many systems that I got second hand. The only one new was a Beogram 5005. Just love it for what it does. I’ve replaced all my drivers with rubber surrounds. Maybe a little less output - still they all sound great

    I have owned the 9000 from almost being launched together with the 8000 speakers, I have had to have the laser replaced in the 9000 but that’s all, I originally set up the 9000 on the floor stand but have now mounted on my wall horizontally, looks stunning as it’s operation and superb sound, always get comments from friends about the system, very informative video for those watching this video, enjoy your new system. 👍👌

    On the surface, this is a story of insanity. But, there is a reason B&O is so beloved and it's customer base so loyal. The style is timeless even if the technology inside is dated. I've been in and out of B&O showrooms in the US since I was a teenager and lusted after these HiFi components. What I've discovered as an adult and can finally afford them is that these systems are like old cars that you love. What the heart wants the heart needs. I've got a Beocenter 9000 coming my way in the post for one of the rooms in my house. I've thought about adding a Beosound 9000 at some point in the future and this video gives me a lot to consider in this pursuit. Thanks for making this Andrew, it's most excellent.

      Thanks JJ, your very correct, in my past I brought and sold quite a bit of vintage hi-fi, this was by comparision quite easy to fix. But B N O gear is at a different level. We once had a BNO record player (the black and silver one i show briefly in the video) it had a stylus that broke. I had to order a replacement from the UK which was $200 NZ, dor something that we could maybe sell for $800. But yes its worth it. I think this could also be a point where I seek out more BnO gear.

    • @wallacem41atgmail
      @wallacem41atgmail 2 роки тому +1

      You are absolutely correct, JJ. I lusted for a BeoSound 9000 the minute I saw one but they were too rich for my blood at the time ... LOL! A year ago I managed to acquire a refurbished unit from a restorer in Denver who specializes in B&O equipment. I chose his offering as he claimed to have replaced the laser being notoriously prone to failure on the Mark 3 units. At the same time I also acquired a pair of BeoLab Pentas from a B&O repair facility in California which had been showroom demonstrators from a B&O store, thus being little used, but due to their age had been re-foamed. By accident I acquired a second pair of Pentas which sale the seller refused to cancel when I realized my error. To me the Pentas seemed more robust and could be played at higher volume. I'm quite please with their sound-image! Also at this time I managed to acquire a BeoLab 19 Wireless Subwoofer from a private seller in Phoenix.

    Nice video 👍
    Bought a bs9000 MK3 that was working for about 5 minuttes two weeks ago. After some initial trouble shooting i concluded that the processing board which sits soldered to the PSU was dead.
    B&O doesn't have this is stock any more so they wished me good luck with the repair.
    Managed to fix this with a spare board out of a Beovision 6-26 and now it works fine.
    I also changed out the foam on my bl8000 that had turned in to black goo.
    Love the setup and it still looks amazing.
    The waf is high with the Bs9k😁

    Back in 1998 when I was first introduced to B&O they had only one pair of Penta speakers. Listening to those next to the 8000 it was very clear to me that they were far superior, the Penta 3 are . At the time I think they wanted $6,000 for the Panthers $8,000 for the 8000s. And another$ 6000 fir the CD changer. I was able to get them down to $5,000 on the speakers. And I was also told that was the last pair of penta available from B&O sold as new where the construction date of 1989. The guy that turned me on to those speakers was my roommate and was quite jealous that I actually had the flagship speakers. But he was happy to listen to them.. to me it was like listening to bands like Pink Floyd for the very first time again. You hear stuff in the music you've never heard before.. I have it paired to a 6500 receiver and a 6500 CD player.

  • @Belinea1610
    @Belinea1610 2 роки тому +2

    The only problem i find is the durability of the lasers. (Think cdm12.4, same as in the cdpro mechanisms) and they lasting only 5000h. The radial laser arm like original in the beocenter 9500 lasts 100k hours. I fell in love with B&O when i was 12y old. I bought a second hand BC9500 about 20y ago. Now it's 35y old. And they made it possible to use the newest Beolab speakers with music systems from 35y ago.
    No other brand does that so it's very durable and indeed timeless.

    I still dream of a day that I can have one of these six test TD changers to match with my Penta 3 speakers.. nothing sounds quite the same as a banging awesome receiver CD player etc connected to their speakers.. I tested between the line input and the 4 and 8 pin cables. And there's a night and day difference even if you use in a bang and Olson receiver as power..

    My 9k (a very late MkIII) really sings when run through a separate amp and passive speakers. In my opinion, a good pair of BL8000 are a good compromise for any B&O system. I run BL2500 and a couple of BL2000. On the face of them, they are nothing speakers. In reality very competent. With proper amplifiers. I am currently looking for a pair of BL3 MkII. Just to try. I love the design aspect but hate the associated electronics concept. HiFi is about experimenting. Which I do a lot. RIP Mr Lewis. Your contribution to design and integration thereof in an urban living environment is immense. Have fun everybody. Bw Mike

    I got a great deal on that type of remote. From eBay I think I got it for less than $50. To replace my master control dial remote. As all it would do is turn off it would not turn down anymore. I also got very cheap a replacement screen that I still have in storage to this day for almost 2 decades

    This video is really high quality, for those who can't stretch to these prices, please consider the Nakamichi Sound Space 9,10, 11 or 12. Then upgrade the mid drivers to Neodymium magnet drivers. I really like the honesty in this video which is like a nostalgic Hifi love letter, will be checking out your Bose video as I happen to own a big Wave which was a retro nostalgic acquisition 😊.

    Andrew, wonder if you eventually bought the subwoofer. I got SVS 1000 (acoustic suspension) and it works very well. You can either connect it to one of the speaker outlets of the 8000 or wire both speaker through the sub. May need a couple of Din/RCA standard adapters. Let me know.
