Super cool. It's always nice to hear the opinion of a real race driver, and Justin is so articulate as well. An added treat to hear Simon from McLaren. All very interesting and such a wonderful car.
My neighbor has a couple that's volcano orange with a a showing-carbon fiber roof, mirrors, intake fins, rear wear and deck lip. Probably the best looking MP4-12C I've seen. This and the P1 are two of my favorite cars!
I really wish you guys told more of a story. What were you doing there? Why were you driving the new Spider? Impressions/expectations before driving the car? We can watch any car video of someone driving a Spider but relaying what you think back to us is what makes this show special.
The fact that McLaren can launch a road car and in 2 years compete with virtually any car on the market is an enormous accomplishment in itself. Virtually every other car company from Lambo, Ferrari, Porsche etc...have had 40 + years to refine their technological designs, styling, sound and brand. The 12C captures their CAN AM cars and old F1 essence very well. McLaren's have always been bad ass and meant business. The P1 is basically their Formula One Team car for public roads.
Fantastic car. Frank Stephenson's designs are extremely organic with beautiful lines. From the 12C to the P1. McLaren can't wait forever to put it's cars on the market, so this is the 1st incarnation. All other manufacturers from Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Mercedes, BMW, Audi..etc etc tweak and refine their styling bit by bit each year based on customer response and feedback. The 12C GT3 is an incredibly gorgeous racing car. McLaren will only continue to get better each successive year.
Wonderful car, thanks to Justin for another good video. But...what is it about Mclaren staff? They are very knowledgeable and are I imagine decent enough people. With a few noteable exceptions - whilst explaining about their cars - most of them sound utterly joyless, devoid of any soul, perfunctory almost, and don't even look happy to be there.
Extremely impressive car, and I personally have driven one and found it to be the quickest car I've ever driven, but alas pfft, all the tech and what not, in the end the 991 GT3 beat it on EVO's track by 0.1 seconds, with only 475hp. Staggering. Cuz this car is bloody hell quick on a track.
Because when they play Grand Turismo or Forza its their favorite car and they can win any race. I felt the same way as you at first, but I'm finally starting to see the humor in reading those comments.
The Mp4-12c with a center driving position would have been epic! It's amazing to see how it all works underneath the body panels..... So Mr. Bell, when are you going to get behind the wheel of the new P1!?? :)
I think the problem that many people have with the Bugatti is that it's a very difficult car for the average enthusiast to relate to. Enormously expensive, looks that are very polarizing, and a top speed that more closely equates to that of an airplane, is hard for many of us to get our heads around. No doubt that it's a technological marvel, but to those of us who just want a really good sports car, it's outside the boundaries of our comprehension.
McLaren is on my 'To Get' list. Reading the comments here, the last 5 show future Honda owners, the zenith of their auto experiances, and down hill from there.
i like looking at these cars and would love to drive one for a day, track or street. but i think bikes are far more fun because of how involved you are in the process in making it go around corners and stuff. also danger = fun to certain degree.
Actually: McLaren bought the rights to the Tom Walkinshaw Racing-developed version of the Nissan VRH35 racing engine, as used in Le Mans in 1998. However, other than the 93 mm bore, little of that engine remains. It is basically a completely new engine with little remaining of the Nissan.
Awesome car....good to see Kiwi legacy still going strong ! I'm sure Bruce would have approved! Glad to see the flying Kiwi as McLarens logo! Well we in NZ see it as such argue all you like we don't care! : )
Wait until you ride in one; you will be completely biased! I absolutely am in love with the MP4 after riding in one on a cruise. It gets to 120mph really quick...so I hear.
I don't know what it is. There are other cars with more power, better looks, deeper pedigree. But I just really like the mp4-12C more than any other car.
It's an awesome car. But the new 2014 458 Ferrari Speciale gets the nod. The 458 Speciale squeezes 605hp. out of it's V-8 WITHOUT any turbo's! And the sound of the engine is out of this world. But yeah, the 12c is crazy nice.
Plenty of people like the Veyron :) But its fashionable to say you hate it. In my lifetime the most significant leap forward with road cars were the F1, then the Veyron and next possibly will be the P1. Both the F1 and The Veyron were the performance benchmarks for around a decade and whats not to like about that?
I guess organization most have a week spot.Unfortunately this show is it, keep doing the right thing listening to your fans instead of force feeding us.Grand opening, grand closing.
No the early models were legitimately recalled for adhesives catching fire and the whole car going up in flames. I mean I love Ferrari, the 458 is a close second to the 12C in my mind but it will always be second.
Creating a road car company from scratch in 2 years is completely different from running an F1 racing team. It requires an entirely different brand strategy, an entirely different consumer, an entirely different manufacturing process, different legalities for road cars. A newish car company like KIA for example may plan for a 15-20 year span to make inroads into the car market. They don't expect to compete and beat Toyota in 2 years. Whereas McLaren has. You think about that for a second...
Can totally understand that...in my case its the Ford Focus RS500, for many others its the Nissan GTR...but dont know anyone who likes the Veyron even if its the fastest production car :D
they would probably call the P1 a hypercar and the MP4-12C a supercar, doesnt really matter when you can pay 40,000 for a f3 that could beat both of them.
What does this "Not as emotional experience as driving a 458" mean? That it will not burst into very emotional flames a week after you buy it like say a 458?
Take the McLaren symbol on it's own off the hood and steering wheel. And just have a small, subtle, sexy, brushed titanium version same the 'McLaren' (with the logo at the end of the lettering) that's on the back of the car on the steering wheel. Just 2 locations...'McLaren' on the back of the car and steering wheel. That's all they need. Splashing the symbol on the hood, seats, wheels and steering wheel starts to make the car look 'techy' and 'tacky' a bit.
Not everyone regards the GT-R as computerdriven. The GT-R is incredibly controversial. There is an equal amount of fanboys and haters, that's why theres so much talk about the GT-R
MotorTrend, no matter how many episodes you make, this series does not get any better.
Super cool. It's always nice to hear the opinion of a real race driver, and Justin is so articulate as well. An added treat to hear Simon from McLaren. All very interesting and such a wonderful car.
I like simon, the mclaren employee,at the end, to the point, no fluff. Thats what i like to see in informational videos.
My neighbor has a couple that's volcano orange with a a showing-carbon fiber roof, mirrors, intake fins, rear wear and deck lip. Probably the best looking MP4-12C I've seen. This and the P1 are two of my favorite cars!

Justin, class and pedigree. Great video, and who else where's a tie while testing..? Way cool.
very well said about the emotion..

Just looking at this car puts me in a state of physical pleasure.
Where was this filmed? Thank you
I dont think any other car show has shown the tub with an explanation, good show
I love this car. Thanks for the review Justin.
The Mp4-12c with a center driving position would have been epic! It's amazing to see how it all works underneath the body panels.....
So Mr. Bell, when are you going to get behind the wheel of the new P1!?? :)
Love the look of the 12C... Just love it!...
It all looks so simple with the fenders off. Radio Flyer with a big outboard motor.

nicely improved over earlier Ebay Motors videos, thanks for the vid and info.
structure/chassis looks really, really solid and safe.
I love this car,one of the best super cars ,EVER..
This car is on my top three list
love that back spoiler function ,
Great review Justin.
corvette zr1, mclaren mp4 12c, and lambo aventedor are my dream cars! SOME DAY!
it fares pretty damn well on the pedigree front though let's be honest, so we can love it for that too : )
Hes the Stig's digital cousin!!
Brilliant video.
i like looking at these cars and would love to drive one for a day, track or street. but i think bikes are far more fun because of how involved you are in the process in making it go around corners and stuff. also danger = fun to certain degree.
Ron Dennis deserves credit sure, but let's not forget the McLaren F1 is Gordon Murray's baby.
what makes your this review different than others that you was shear involvement. Good job
It's called love, my friend.
That suspension set-up needs more chatter so we can see it drop down to being standard equipment on everything sooner rather than later.
So why do we get only about one second of the roof open. Tell me that part got edited out. I mean you did film it with the roof down more than that???
Can it be a supercar if it is a full tier below their best offering? (P1)
Awesome car....good to see Kiwi legacy still going strong ! I'm sure Bruce would have approved! Glad to see the flying Kiwi as McLarens logo! Well we in NZ see it as such argue all you like we don't care! : )
Amazing car!!!
Wait until you ride in one; you will be completely biased! I absolutely am in love with the MP4 after riding in one on a cruise. It gets to 120mph really quick...so I hear.
that's cool. but what about the part on a track where yo have to turn?
I don't know what it is. There are other cars with more power, better looks, deeper pedigree. But I just really like the mp4-12C more than any other car.
I wish you cleaned the lens on the chase car
It's an awesome car. But the new 2014 458 Ferrari Speciale gets the nod. The 458 Speciale squeezes 605hp. out of it's V-8 WITHOUT any turbo's! And the sound of the engine is out of this world. But yeah, the 12c is crazy nice.
This car wins on every front.
Very nice episode !! ... but pls don't play the background music. It doesn't fit in, in my opinion :D
I love this car.
I'm I the only one that wants to see Justin Bell do his best Jeremy Clarkson impression in the body off MP4-12C?
Why people think the 12c is boring blows me away, its a fucking gorgeous car! way better looking then a 458 or Gallardo
agreed - my 12C spyder has great lines. After owning it for years I still walk around it all the time admiring the great lines and transitions.
Plenty of people like the Veyron :)
But its fashionable to say you hate it. In my lifetime the most significant leap forward with road cars were the F1, then the Veyron and next possibly will be the P1. Both the F1 and The Veyron were the performance benchmarks for around a decade and whats not to like about that?
now there's a real supercar!
Although I prefer the looks of the Lamborghini Gallardo, Aventador and so forth.. I gotta say, this is the best supersport car there is.
He's at ACS!!!
about 2:00min he said he wish he could find somewhere to top it out, um there is a large oval track in the background
What engine?
Justin Bell you need to watch a Chris Harris Car review, pick any you want, you could learn a lot...
lol at the talkiing part at the end ..
kinda awkward since your elbows were touching haha
Yes it does
I LOVE this car. Is my dream car
Id say yes I think the p1 is a hyper car but with ground breaking performance
I guess organization most have a week spot.Unfortunately this show is it, keep doing the right thing listening to your fans instead of force feeding us.Grand opening, grand closing.
What car is the camera man in? He seems to keep up with the McLaren. LOL!!!
Did this by any chance take place at the Fontana speedway in California? Looks fairly a lot like it Lol
please, go on about how you co-direct What Not To Wear.
I love this car
I don't know about other cars having a better pedigree, we are talking about McLaren here.
No the early models were legitimately recalled for adhesives catching fire and the whole car going up in flames. I mean I love Ferrari, the 458 is a close second to the 12C in my mind but it will always be second.
Wow...between McLaren and Ferrari we have the best road cars AND the best F-1 teams!!
Wonderful beaut of a car
Motor Trend Drivers Car of the Year 2014?
Haha the company that made his helmet is Bell, and so is his last name.
It's like his name is on the hemet XD

The engineer is so neutral :D Yes it does look good :D Like a german :D
the perfect car. period
Can totally understand that...in my case its the Ford Focus RS500, for many others its the Nissan GTR...but dont know anyone who likes the Veyron even if its the fastest production car :D
Oh why not, everyone else has already reviewed this car.
really nice car
Was that comment really needed Rahde? A capital L goes to you!! Shaking my head..
I fucking love this car. That is all.
Fontana... just minutes away from where I live.
Love McLarens
Super nice car...
they would probably call the P1 a hypercar and the MP4-12C a supercar, doesnt really matter when you can pay 40,000 for a f3 that could beat both of them.
Nice!
I had to explain this to someone a couple months ago as well...
EXCELENTE AUTO SALUDOS
So what are we supposed to draw from this- that bell makes helmets or that he has a helmet named for his show?
What does this "Not as emotional experience as driving a 458" mean? That it will not burst into very emotional flames a week after you buy it like say a 458?

The 12C reminds me of a 458 without a soul.
I wish they can show the car more........
omg you are so right!
"I can't explain it, you've got to drive one"
Okay... :'(
Not everyone regards the GT-R as computerdriven. The GT-R is incredibly controversial. There is an equal amount of fanboys and haters, that's why theres so much talk about the GT-R
I already reviewed both this car and the coupe. Please do not bash others who do the same.
I want to buy this car!!!
The Gt-r might have a close win
Interesting, he likes the McLaren because of all of its technology. Yet, he hated the GT-R for the same reason.
