  • In this video, we’ll take a look back at Wisconsin & Southern operations in 2003, 2019, and 2020 over their Prairie Subdivision between Madison and Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, featuring two generations of WSOR locomotives. Locomotive models SD20, SD40, and SD40-2 are featured in this show, wearing a mix of WSOR, WAMX (Watco), and HLCX reporting marks. We were fortunate to capture the Prairie Sub while several wigwag crossing signals were still active along the line, adding some extra character to this former Milwaukee Road route. Impressive bridges, wigwags, preserved Milwaukee Road depots, and fascinating shortline railroading can all be found along the Prairie Sub.

    I certainly like the Wisconsin and Southern paint scheme! This line was the Wisconsin and Calumet back in 1990.

      We agree with you. The WSOR paint scheme is very attractive. And yes, we do believe that this line was operated by WICT before WSOR. Thanks, MJ!

    Awesome video as always, love the night shots in Prairie du Chien especially, got to go stop by there myself while heading to Dubuque with a friend recently and saw the vintage Milwaukee Road equipment collection and one of WSOR's anniversary units. Definitely a very unique and pretty town!

      Thank you, Carter! We were fortunate to capture them working into the night at PDC. And yes, Prairie du Chien is a great place to visit. The area where the train started their work looks like a worthwhile destination, even without train activity.

    wow nice vid... and at one time it was literally a sport to try and find the few last remaining wig-wags in wisconsin... not sure if they're all gone or not now though... sheboygan had some... there were also some wig-wags in a town called freisland wisconsin... but again not sure they're still there or not

      Thank you very much! Those wigwags were so neat… There are many more in museums than there are in the wild these days. It sounds like California is home to the remaining operational wigwags on common carrier railroads in the United States. Wisconsin used to be a great place to find them, but it appears that the end has come for the remaining wigwags in the Midwest. We appreciate you watching and commenting.

    It's interesting to note that this sub or at least a portion of it was almost abandoned in the 80's. And if I'm not mistaken that bridge the train crosses east of Spring Green is the longest rail bridge in WI.

    • @CVisionProductions1
      @CVisionProductions1  Рік тому

      Thank you for sharing that information. It’s a good thing that the state of Wisconsin stepped in to save this line, as the Milwaukee Road had no interest in operating it after the railroad entered bankruptcy. We’re grateful for their efforts. As for the Spring Green bridge, it’s an impressive structure! We appreciate the comment.

    I still remember when seeing the Milw. Rd. local come into Crawford Jct. and Prarie du Chein from Wyelusing State Park up on the south cliff of the river basin. That was 40 plus years ago.

    Another awesome video C vision! I love the WisconsinSouthern because the fact that they have used primarily abandon lines& made it profitable is a great model for other railroads to compare how they operate especially class two and class two railroads. Great success story for sure!!

      Thank you! And as for the WSOR... Yes! They are a true success story in Midwest railroading. We wish them many more years of sustained profitability.
