- Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan at 3,776 m (12,388 ft).Along with Mount Tate and Mount Haku, it is one of Japan's "Three Holy Mountains" (Sanreizan). An active volcano that last erupted in 170708, Mount Fuji is just west of Tokyo, and can be seen on a clear day. Mount Fuji's exceptionally symmetrical cone is a well-known symbol of Japan and it is frequently depicted in art and photographs, as well as visited by sightseers and climbers.
Being face to face with Fuji-San has been one of the most important moments of my life and made me burst into tears like a child. I crossed the world only to see it, and I'd do it again.
Fuji-san was visible from my home in Usihama on all clear days for the eight years I called that part of Fussa-machi home. At a distance of about 30 miles it was an awesome presence. I never tired of looking at it. The eternal mountain.
