    This haka is called "Kaipahua Kura," meaning Red Raiders and was written by Seamus Fitzgerald from Turangi, NZ. He wrote it specifically for the Kahuku football team because his son was on the team, and he wanted Kahuku to have a unique haka. Before Seamus taught the team, he made sure the players knew what they were saying and how important the haka is to Maori culture. So yes, they know what they're saying, and yes, there are Maori boys on the team. I would know, I go to school with them

    THIS HAKA WAS MADE BY ONE OF THE NATIVES OF AOTEAROA NEW ZEALAND. Because of the role that his people have played for this team he made it for the mana that flows within all of those boys maori or not. We are proud to say we are warriors. We love the moari people. To all the haters. STUFF YOU!

    I graduated from Hilo H.S. (Big Island) in 01' and as long as I can remember, two even get a chance to step on the field against Kahuku or St. Louis was already an accomplishment, beating them would be more of a conquest. Besides that, I miss da islands so this haka here gets my blood pumping!! Gotta love the 808!!!

    p.s. Saint Louis only won all those years because they recruited the best players from all the schools all over the island... including Kahuku. Any "state championship" game before 1998 was known as the "prep bowl," and starting in 1999 were the real HHSAA State Football Championship games. A prep bowl win is in fact equivalent to a state title, but technically, St. Louis only won 3 out of 8 times appearing at the state championship game, while Kahuku won 6 out of 8 times.

    Kahuku has many towns with in the district. From Kaaawa to Pupukea their are about 15,000 in population give or take a couple hundred. Compared to Waianae 13,177, Nanakuli 12,666, Kapolei 15,186, Campbell 14,955. Take a class in economics, then you will see the reason Kahuku high school has such a big district. It's all based on population.

    @ilovefrankandbeans I'm pretty sure you can possibly take away 8 of those 17 titles from st.louis. Gerald welch and ornellas family are from kahuku's community AKA Ko'olauloa. They both started all 4 yrs and became impact players right away. I say possibly because 1 guy doesn't win a championship but these guys hold st louis records for receiving and would've been fairly difficult to win without these guys. Also coaches from kahuku community were also on the st. louis coaching staff. BTW Kahuku produces D1 caliber and NFL players every year. For a few years we were amongst the top 5 HS to have the most players in the NFL. Chris naeole, itula mili, kemoeatu brothers, francisco, afalava. I could go on and on and thats not even including the hundreds that have played at D1 level.

  • @Lai3Boyz
    @Lai3Boyz 12 років тому

    You're right, they chose St. Louis because they were the best. But they were only the best because the players were from other schools. St. Louis wouldn't have won all those years if the boys had gone to the high school in their respective area. Most of the players you listed aren't even from Honolulu. Chang, Rivers, and Afoa are from Waipahu, Maafala is from Kalihi, and Arceneaux is from New Orleans. The only players you mentioned that are from Honolulu are Mariota, Kreutz & Gesser. That's 3/8.

It would be the same thing for Punahou, if all the best people chose to go to Punahou, then it would be THEM with the 17 titles. And it was never about all of the players being from Kahuku, my point was that MOST of the players that played for St. Louis weren't even from the St. Louis area (Honolulu)! I was just letting you know that even people from Kahuku played for St. Louis.

    i graduated from kahuku and am a big time fan but would have to agree, and its not because the talent is not there because it is. The problem is that they dont get to play against high level coaching. People in Kahuku love the team like no other and support the team but the coaches are not on the same level and do not take it nearly as serious as the top ranked mainland schools coaches do. If all the hawaii coaches took it as serious as say texas coaches do then hawaii teams could compete.

    If you are trying to say that if it wasn't for all the Poly's that live in our community Kahuku would not be good in Football. What about Nanakuli and Waipahu? They got a lot of Poly's born and raised in the islands in their program. It's not the fact we get more, it's Kahuku's football program that develops these players not Samoa or Tonga. Great players are developed in great programs where they learn fundamentals that help them to play successfully. Our Pop warner program is also great.

    And yes, ALL of the players from Kahuku are born and raised in the Kahuku community, with the exception of the kicker #47 Jake Samsel who is from Florida, and even Cameron Mercado, #93 of 2010 is from Cali (we didn't recruit them, mind you. They chose to come here) who both tie for the longest field goal in a hawaii high school title game ever, for 49 yards. You should really stop talking because you clearly don't know anything about Kahuku and its community.

    We do not recruit from Samoa or Tonga! We do not reach out and beg them to come play for Kahuku. But yes, Majority of the people in our community have roots that go back to the islands. But their family lives in our community and have lived in the community for generations. They do not come to Hawaii to play Football specifically for Kahuku they come to live with their family that happens to live in our community.

    St. Louis has the most prep football tittles in the state of Hawaii? Yes. Cal Lee is one of the greatest coaches in Hawaii prep FB history? Yes. They have the Most Prep bowl tittles not State Tittles if you are wanting facts. As for St. Louis recruiting players it was well known through out the islands that this was happening.

    Well at least I admit it and show respect for your school. And I already told you this before as well, there ARE Maoris boys on the team, why would you say there aren't when you don't even know? I already told you that the man who wrote the haka for Kahuku is a Maori from Turangi, and his son is on the team. It's not abuse, it's tribute to the culture. Many people of different cultures do the Hula, and it's accepted by most Hawaiian people (I doubt it's accepted by you).

It's a school's FB program that makes the difference, but in our community it starts at the Pop warner level.
