A Special episode indeed as we show you one the latest to come through The Barn doors! An extremely rare 1 of 14 Mercedes Benz 500sec by Coach builder Sbarro. A Gullwing coupe that embodies everything 80's. The history behind this car is pretty fascinating too. We heard of it's existence through a friend and once we saw the fist pictures we just had to have it! It wasn't that easy however, the car was down in South America - Colombia (makes total sense, we know!). In fact, we started to dig through the paperwork and learned it was imported new from Europe to Colombia to the original owner...that was big $$$ back then. The current owner inherited the car. 1 family owned car! We were mind blown. After closer inspection we further learned it is still sitting on the original tires! We was about a 2 month process, but we were able to get the car out of Colombia and import it into the US. It now has a Florida clean title and ready to go anywhere.
Written description below provided by 1000sel.com:
The Mercedes 380-500SEC Gullwings made by Styling-Garage (SGS) from Hamburg are absolute legends when it comes to 1980s styling and coachbuilding. And although the versions made in Hamburg are the best known, they're not only company that made them. About two years after Styling-Garage unveiled their 500SGS Gullwing, Swiss car creator Franco Sbarro displayed a very similar car at the 1983 Geneva car salon. The car was named Sbarro Mercedes 500 Portes Papillon "Gullwing". Quite a mouthfull.
At first glance the car looks quite similar to the 500SGS Gullwing by Styling-Garage, but in details there are huge differences. The biggest difference is the amount of plastic involved: the Sbarro Portes Papillon has doors made from plastic, which are shorter than the regular doors of a Mercedes SEC, with the bottom part now integrated in the doorstep. This makes entering the Sbarro Gullwing much harder.
A big difference over the Gullwing-doored 500SECs built by SGS was that Sbarro also offered performance upgrades: the regular 5.0 litre engine from the Mercedes 500SEC could be swapped for the 6.9 litre V8 engine from the W116 450SEL 6.9.
As with the cars made by Styling-Garage, the majority of the Sbarro Gullwings went to the Middle-East. Who other than Arab Sheiks and Royals could pay a pricetag of 180.000 Swiss Francs / 200.000 DM?
Funny: the first Sbarro 500SEC Gullwing had the name "Shahin 1000" written on the back. The name had a stripe running right through it which had some press puzzled so they came up with names like "Shahia 1000", "Shahina 1000" and "Shanin 1000". The Arab word "Shahin" stands for "peregrine falcon", which is commonly used in hunting.

wow rebember seing one of these (the first 1000 featured in the vid in fact) at sbarro's workshop back in 82, i was 10, my first car big emotion. there was one for sale in the us one or two years ago with too big modern chrome wheels on it. the last evolution was all fiberglass with top shop roof.

Amazing find!! I will love to see Jay Leno opinión o this car. Congratulations on you channel.
Hmmm me too
I've only seen two in America, yours, and a 6.9 in silver. How much does something like this go for? It's definitely gaudy, but it still manages to be spectacular at the very same time. Those rims alone are out of this world, and in the 80's (the silver one was a 79, cut down from a 4 door apparently) this must have been an absolute space ship from a galaxy unknown. It's as if some Martians forgot where they parked. I'd love it for it's rarity, pedigree, the hard work done to create it, and that beautiful exhaust note these cars make. Owning a Sbarro anything would be indescribable. Like a stunning flight of fancy that leaves me speechless every time I look at her, and one amazing, pinch yourself because you don't know if you're dreaming whenever you drive your highly collectable rolling art piece, that sometimes you can't believe actually belongs to you, type of fantasy.
LP sent me here. Glad I listened

Here in Colombia is one of these. Brought in by a drug trafficker in the mid-1980s
Really? Do you have more info?
@@GastonRossato Something but not much, I even have some photos. The car belonged to Fabio Ochoa, one of the leaders of the now extinct Medellin cartel. In fact another one that is a gull wing SGS version, but unfortunately it fell into the hands of someone who doesn't know about it and is in very bad condition. Very little is known about the Sbarro's current whereabouts, only that he is still in the country and is rarely seen at events. There are rumors that the owner is a cousin of Ochoa, but that he never had any links with drug trafficking and the purchase of the car was made in his name, so he never had any legal problems.
I'm glad that great car is there now. The same should be done with the SGS that is over here in a warehouse in Girardot, it really needs a good restoration and it will be a great car again.
So it's not designed by the pizza shop?! 🍕
Lol nope
Cyberpunk
Wow this car just screams wolf of wall street type behavior.... I bet that car could run on blow and hair spray....
The build quality is so terrible. It looks like someone's garage built kit car. The freaking grille slats are crooked and so are the door panel gaps.
Два нуля едут и по телефону говорят. К чему это, объясните?))
Are they geys ?
Not sure what you’re asking
This is the ugliest car ever customised 🤢
It’s “period” at least 🤷♂️
