- Poland's entry to the 1995 Eurovision Song Contest in Ireland.
Justyna Steczkowska - "Sama"
One of the most original, avant-garde songs ever to find their way to a Eurovision stage. Still a fresh, intelligent and gripping piece of music. My favourite Polish entry ever (and they have entered some great music), as well as the song that made me a Eurovision fan.
The greatest piece of art to make the Eurovision stage. Too good for Eurovision really
you'd better not go there alone, because you will meet BABA JAGA, LESZY or ZIRNITRA there. And remember LICHO never sleeps.
Was the all the 1995 Contest.Enya and experimental music had a big and unexpected impact on the musical scene all over the world. This year we had the most experimential Eurovision ever.In 1996,the pop songs are back on scene, just see the Gina G's efect. She doesn't win,but she does one of most played songs on that year.
i agree
True true true
It's just too innovative, futuristic, avant-garde, modern and artistic for Eurovision in 90's
I have just watched it again years after watching it live. You're right with your comment. She was ahead of her times with her voice and the music. Pretty damn good.
@@lanvin1982 it's not so much that she's too ahead of her time because new age, folk, ethnic fusion music was the dominating sound of ESC '95, this entry while en vogue but also was too avant garde for popular taste
Imagine calling something too avant-garde and artistic for a contest where the winning song had 24 words and an extra long violin solo.
When I listen to this song I imagine some mystical polish forest full of fairies and other creatures :D One of my favourites. Poland rocks in the '90s.
My country is still like you mentioning or imaginery. One of the purest, and beautiful place on planet earth!
But I've always found its chorus more like an african music. It is in fact a very interesting mix od different styles
Total masterpiece. And that voice.
She's rumoured to represent Poland again in 2024!
Compare her current song vs 1995 song... Music is really going down unfortunately
My winner of 1995. I'm crazy about mystic entries. My favorite part is 1:30 - 2:15
90’s ethnic entries were the best.
My favorite part is 2:22
@@o-b-1 same! Best high notes in ESC are Poland 1995 and Israel 2021
This is so good... Wish more acts nowadays were as original as this! Pure artistry.
It sounds way more modern than 1995, I absolutely love this
Oh yeah, some of her stuff from the 90s was very ahead of its time. Then again, she was initially inspired by artists like Bjork, Dead Can Dance, Portishead and This Mortal Coil, so I wouldn't expect nothing less than astonishing :)
my favorite eurovision song
Best polish entry greetings from Turkey ♥️
i keep going back here because it's so good... why is this not in Spotify?
Justyna is adding many of her songs on Spotify this year. Hopefully this one may be one of them
@@CodyKK it's not😔
@@fabriziodambrosio86 yeah, I don't know why she omitted this one. I thought there might be some law issues about this song, but she sang it a few days ago. Maybe we should remind her?
@@CodyKK could be at the request of whatever record she recorded it with.
I have the same issue with Cyprus 1998 🥲
Unforgetabble 25 years later. Stunning.
I don't know what can I think about the first half, I hear two verses with thoose sweet-sounded folk instrumental parts and then maybe a strange bridge. But I feel something magical when she starts to dance and the song is raising with the vocals till that amazing high voice. It makes more magical, that I absolutely don't understand the song (and not only the lyrics) but it charmes me just like spring in the air.
Very nicely put. It's a unique song, unusual but magical. :)
gives me this folky vibe i absolutely adore in music
18th place?! WTF?! SOOO UNDERRATED! This performance blew my mind!
Amazing . What a masterpiece
To było za dobre na Eurowizję To arcydzieło takie jak ma dzisiaj Conan z Portugalii nie dla mas tylko dla nielicznych odbiorców
Dalej szkoda mi że Conan został w półfinale
Trip-hop rhythms, fashionable in the 1990s, were new at Eurovision. There was something magical about her, she was already wearing black, a mystic. The combination of trip-hop and Justyna's vocals is the best that could be...
2:24; Every window and glass in Europe smashed into bits and dogs started howling and crying
More than fascinating. Goose bumps whenever I listen to it!
Never herd this one b4, it's REALLY GOOD!
Ciary mam do dzisiaj, no przecież to jest zajebiste!
That was unforgetable an so good!☺👍
Very Slavic Paganic:-) Kocham Polska from Turkey
Good Heavens, this is my Polish favourite!!! Absolutely!!! BEST EVER!!!
Beautiful and magical !
This song makes me want to live in Poland.
Jesus DON’T!
Необычная песенка. Уже раз 100-й слушаю.
gdy śpiewała ten utwór miałem nie cały rok życia... teraz po latach wygląda jeszcze piękniej... piękna kobieta z niesamowitą osobowością prawdziwej damy
Absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It actually fit right in for the more New Age-y sound Eurovision found itself in for a couple of years. It might've just been a bit too weird even for back then. I still dig it.
It seriously did though, it fit right in, even if it is really “out there” in terms of composition and performance. 1995 is a year full of this stuff, and a good year at that too. This song, while initially really low on my ranking, really has grown on me. My 12th of 1995.
Ciarki, cudo, magia 😍
Nowadays ppl would go crazy for her, but hay it was back in 90s when tacky songs were trendy
Criminally underrated. Shame on the juries!!!!!!!!!!
I loved this!
Beautiful!
To nie Edyta Górniak była gwiazdą Eurowizji!! Dlaczego nikt nie mówi o tym występie!? JUSTYNA NASZA KLASA!!
Masterpiece 💕
Belissima!!!
i think the audience really enjoyed it!
Indeed, it's really surprising that such an audience favorite bombed so badly. See also Germany 1975.
Nadal kocham i uwielbiam
Brawo Justynko!!!
Hello
This is a very original and difficult song, that it why it got few points.
It was the favorite of late singer-songwriter Luís Filipe, who was a member of the Portuguese jury that year.
Kind regards from Spain
Carlos M.S.
PS: Do you know who were the members of the Icelandic jury in 1995? I would like to add this list into Wikipedia one day.
now I know this
when the world is sometimes
angry at me
it gives me sadness so I would
wait there with the eye of the skyscraper
wait until dusk
in this most faraway of places
so that I become a little flea
now I know that
when the world is sometimes
angry at me
it brings me sadness so I would
wait there with the eye of the skyscraper
wait until dusk
so alone
and feeling so bleak
as if God, good God
didn't like fleas
Real winner
It sounds like Enigma's 'Return to Innocence' at times.
Really like this from Turkish side of Cyprus
a teraz porównajcie poziom bejba
Originally this song is slower, this faster beat surprises me when drummer starts it.
Piękny utwór ❤
Bizarre but good
This is Caroline Polachek of the 90s and it's beautiful
❤️
R.I.P all headphone users
Yes. On 2:25
My favourite part :)
Gdyby to zaśpiewała po angielsku to by było rozjebane po całości.
W tych czasach taki występ to było by iks de w sumie.
The intro sounds like one of those crappy recorder covers. It's still good though.
Speed X1,25
Brzmi momentami jak "Return To Innocence" Enigmy.
2:25 when my favs flop
Did they play the flutes wrong on purpose?
This song sounds exactly as it should.
On CD it is the same. It is challenging for the audience. Its art!
2:20
Gerçekten Türk yok mu?
Olmaz mi hic ..
Benim en sevdiğim şarkıdır
Czy tam w chórku śpiewa jej siostra?
Kacper Kozicki tak
w chórku śpiewają jej dwie siostry:)
I think I'm one of the few who don't like this song. The flute really wasn't good on my ears, I'm not a downtempo music fan, and it sadly ended up last for me in my 95 top.
I can see how people like it though! Just not my type of song.
wygląda jak wampir ,ale śpiewa ładnie
she had some deep problems :/ Especially @ 2:35!
Szacunek dla niej wiem jak to jest ale trochę słabo
wokal ok piosenka tragedia , płacz, pianie i depresja
2:25 fire alarm?! This is a bit boring and annoying. Too much sleepy. And this lady is strange, I think she loves to copy Kayah. As a kid I thought that her, Kayah and Kora are the same person. Maybe because of hairstyle and hair color (now Kora is a blonde and looks like Doda but she was a brunette at that time). Had the same with "Left eye" (TLC member) and Aaliyah. Also thought they are the same person. Maybe because both are Afroamerican, brunettes and dead, both died in 2001 or 2002 I cant even remember.
can someone recommend me more songs like this one i’d appreciate it

@@kamilzakrocki1406 thanks!
Respect for Edyta Gorniak but this song was the best Poland had presented so far! But you do not serve a Lobster in McDonalds.
Simply just too good and maybe too complicated for a common ear....
exactly
So you're saying ESC is McDonald's ?
Nah just kidding. But honestly, Eurovision is a song contest, not a pop academic contest
@@jesemepardens9151 yes it is McDonalds in fact, it’s the most adequate comparison I’ve ever heard. And going there with this masterpiece of a song and voice was an absolute mistake and no wonder it was completely lost in Dublin. A Big Mac lover ( = an average eurovision viewer) will never understand the appeal of king scallops lol.
😂 exactly, well put 👌🏼✨
@@leonidasseit wasn't a mistake, it's precious that we are lucky to see this performance via Eurovision, no matter the points. Justyna was stunning and nobody since could repeat her magic, the best ESC song in new-age genre, never topped.
This is an epic entry . One of the best in eurovision history!
2:31
The thing that I wonder is how the hell she can hold out that high note for so long!
I know this is a five year old comment but in case you're still curious, the technique she's using to get a note that high and strong is by contracting her throat, which makes a lot less air have to pass through her vocal chords, thereby preserving air. I learned that technique as part of a swedish cattle call known as "kulning", you can check it out if you wanna know more.
So it's still impressive, but it's honestly not that hard to sustain a note that long if you know this technique.
That is not that long. I’m a singer myself, and with the correct technique, it’s totally within the comfort zone.
One of my favorite moments is when the backing vocals are hitting the note at 2:22. It accompanies the main vocals magically. There is something wild in this song.
Well caught. This song is full of untamed magic.
Masterpiece!!! The best song in the history of the contest! Love from Belgrade
The queen will be back in 2024!
ye, she have good song
i chuj bombki strzelił
I don't really care about eurovision, I just keep coming back to this incredible song. Ah, the 90s. This weird, modern, melodic folktronica was 90s pop. It's almost unbelivable now. I highly recommend listening to Steczkowska's first two albums produced by late Grzegorz Ciechowski.
Magia... Smutne, że Justyna była cudowna, a takie niskie miejsce miała :( Boli do teraz
mało fanów jest Justyny lecz są to najważniejsze!!
no
At least everyone still remembers this song 😍
Tonacja minorowa - piękne obrazuje polska melancholijna nature ....
Piękna , unikatowa piosenka .
❤️❤️❤️
Przecież to utwór atonalny.
Here’s how I see it …She produced this masterpiece at the same time when Bjork was recording “Post” and Portishead debuted with “Dummy”. And at the same time, I can imagine Justyna listening to “into the labyrinth” by Dead Can Dance from 1993 and “heaven or Las Vegas” by Cocteau Twins from 1990.They added some Avantgarde Polish folk into it and here’s how “sama” was born :)
Do tej piosenki trzeba dorosnąć❣️
Czy ja wiem mam 16-naście lat i słucham tego kawałka conajmniej od trzech lat :)
a ja mam 11 lat
@@MalyNieogar nie chodzi mi wiekowo ale muzycznie:)
This song is definitely ahead of its time. When I first listened to it, I found it weird but somehow enjoyed it. It was on my Top 10 list that year.
She actually had to lower her vocal range at one but due to the fact only dogs and aquatic mammals could hear her
lmao mariah carey could never
bullshit
Bullshit
Too low place for that masterpiece
UNDERRATED!!!!
It brings me catharsis. Such a pity that the juries were too used to typical cheesy entries of that time to appreciate groundbreaking art.
i love that she still has a similar witchy feeling style to her song in 2024… even if the two songs are very different! this is my favourite polish eurovision entry and i would be thrilled if tvp did choose her to return this year…
This song is like an experience. I'm here for that.
This is the greatest Eurovision song ever. It's no competition.
Co ty wiesz
Such a cultural reset
2023 and this is still my favorite polish eurovision song… justyna steczkowa has truly outdone herself with this song! so unique, divine and ethereal…. 🖤
In yesterday’s interview she said she’s considering to be back in 2024 :)
@@KurukeedYes, stream Witcher Tarohoro by our mother Justyna.
This could be played in 2023 and yet a masterpiece. Be proud Justina, there are still listeners to your voice. Greetings from Norway.
I bow down to Polish songs of the 90's - 97' and 96' in particular, but their début entry and "Sama" as well. Kudos to the Icelandic jury for giving Poland 6 points (+ 7 to Denmark and 12 to Norway).
my favourite entry along with slovakia 1994 and united kingdom 2022!
i loved sama before it was popular
What a special song! I like how unique its style is.
2:22 wow this is amazing note!
so underrated 😭 I LOVE POLAND😍
This entry is just magical. ❤
This song and also presentation is nearly art. The harmonies are very difficult to 'understand' at first rehearsal. It grows after some hearing. She sing it very well, but the song is too weired BUT i love it so much!
I love this song so much and the journey it takes me on.
So vulnerable in the beginning then free and comforting when Justyna extends her arms at the end. Just a total masterpiece.
Gdzie jesteście zakompleksieni Polacy? Same pozytywne komentarze o polskiej piosence i to głównie po angielsku! Moim zdaniem to najlepsze co Polska pokazała na Eurowizji, a jednocześnie za dobre.
