J.D. Fortune should be fronting a band. He has a great voice and he can apparently write great songs too.

The problem is that JD Fortune didn't earn it. He want what Hutchence had without doing the hard yards.
There are 1000s of musicians who can do what JD Fortune does. To get the respect and support that Hutchence had took years of plugging away.
TV shows like Idol gave created an expectation that if you can sing you should start at the top. This is not what the industry is like.

I really wish people wouldn't compare J.D. to Michael. Nobody can replace anybody else. Michael is awesome and so is J.D.. He did great with INXS and he's got some great solo music. A lot of songs from the unreleased Death of a Motivational Speaker can be found on UA-cam, and there are two Seven In 7 albums on iTunes. I wish him the best whether he's with INXS, another band, or on his own. I'm glad to hear he's clean these days too. One day at a time J.D.! Keep it up!
In 2005 my ex wife did lasik surgery for the bass player of the cult. He got us tickets to a 'camp freddy' show at house of blues in Hollywood, which he played rythm guitar with. Camp freddy was a band of the biggest rock stars at the time from different bands and they were playing each others songs. They were doing some show for the X-games. My ex wife and i hung out in the champagne room upstairs before and after the show. I talked to Dave Navarro, shook Slash's hand...even though he didnt even look at me, I shook Jerry Cantrell's (alice in chains) hand...Scott Weiland sang a few songs...we were in front so these guys were practically sweating on us. Guitar player from the sex pistols, Mark McGrath sang a couple...it was the most unreal experience of my life. Anyway, the contestants of Rock Star INXS were all there and we talked to all of them. Word got around that we were from Ontario, and J.D. Fortune, being from Canada, thought we were from Ontario Canada, and we were from Ontario California. JD came up and started talking to us...he thought we were from Canada and i said no. But he started talking up a storm with us. When we had to go it felt like he didn't want us to leave. He was the NICEST guy...just wonderful. This was only a few weeks into the show so most of the contestants were still there. Ty was really hyper and drunk I think. But unfortunately in this video, he does seem to be coked out but thats not a reason to fire him...i doubt every member of INXS is pure as the driven snow. JD should have saved and invested his money. Too bad they dont teach you those things in rock star school. Where are you now JD? Hope you're doing ok...

I hope he realizes that he doesn't need INXS to continue his music. He should shed the past and find a way to re-invent himself. He has an excellent voice!
One thing in this video that sticks out to me is the publicist's comments at 3:34 - that JD was never a full-time member of the band, that he was just contracted out on a temporary basis. It really looks like the publicist has an axe to grind with JD based on his comments. Who's running the band here? Would've been good to hear from one of the band members themselves instead of the publicist.
I've seen other bands do this before - they bring in a new band member, then when things don't go so smooth after some time, they cut the person loose and say "oh, they were just contracted temporary, they weren't a real band member". When JD won Rockstar: INXS, he was promoted as the new band member - that's what the whole competition was about. So to hear later for the band or their publicist say that JD wasn't a full time band member, one of three things happened here: either the band lied to JD about his status up front - JD did not fully understand (for one reason or another) and did not read the fine print in his contract that he was not a full time band member (if that was the case) - or this thing about being contracted was just something that was made up after JD was cut loose.
The other similar example of this was the Moody Blues & Patrick Moraz - it wound up turning into a big lawsuit & very public court battle. After original keyboardist Mike Pinder left the MB's, Moraz was brought on board in the late 70's to be his replacement, and played with the band all the way up through about 1991, then they cut him loose. During the time he was with the MB's, he was featured as a band member on all the album covers, promo materials, band interviews, etc. Then after he was gone, the MB's said that Moraz was never a real band member. I love the MB's but this just seemed a little fishy to me. You don't promote session musicans as full band members.

The way that INXS treated JD is horrendous. Still makes we wild all this time later. I was banned from INXS’ Facebook page for speaking out - and I still am 🙄 petty much?

The INXS boys obviously felt he wasn't doing his job. JD has a great voice and stage presence (nowhere near Hutchence, but he was comfortable onstage), but he's OBVIOUSLY got some drug shit going on. I've been around many different types of junkies - and the way this guy handles himself, his scattered excuses, his "plans" etc. area all indicators of drug ABUSE.
You had your chance, JD - you *blew* it!!
Yeah I remember I was in the pinnacle of my drug addiction when this happened and it sounded to me like JD was just making excuses. I hope he's all right now. Those guys in INXS have no patience or tolerance for drug use and abuse.

Naturally, it's very sad to see JD, such a talented performer, so down and out. May he in the near future rise and perform again on the world stage.

I followed and watched the Supernova Rock Star competition and JD Fortune really stood up from the rest! And because of him became hooked with INXS again! I hope he can be successful again as individual singer coz he’s phycically in every inch deserving to be in a limelights plus a talented song writer! Thank goodness it did not happened to Arnel Pineda, he is until now the vocalist of Journey

He’s not homeless anymore and hasn’t been for a while. He’s back here in Ontario heading up an Inxs tribute band! He has video on UA-cam. A friend of mine from music school is the bass player in his band!

As a fan of the band that I am, I say ... finally found a very good frontman !! with a good voice !!! J. D. It was the resurrection of INXS, of course I respect the memory of Michael Hutchence, because no-one is going to overcome, but at least the band had gotten a very good singer.
But unfortunately for all, J. D. left with nothing ... INXS, too.
Someone can always sing the catalog.
I loved INXS with Michael. Saw them just before he died. Great, great band. I'm sorry he's gone, but JD was a perfect choice for the band. He's got front man looks, an amazing voice, stage presence and he could right a mean lyric. I'm sorry about the drugs. Try living on the streets and in your car and see how messed up you can get. I wish the band had found a way to keep him. They were on their way back....
I can´t believe this guy. When watching the Rockstar INXS Show, one can tell that he was truly talented: the songs arrangements, the compositions, the energy, the charisma; and when he performed with INXS he absolutely delivered. He might has a border line personality or a real drug problem. Hope he is OK now.
He's back to doing Elvis impersonations, he was a good singer, but I personally didn't like JD as a person, he was a rat on the show, untrustworthy, not very genuine, he was cocky also, Im sure all that raised its ugly head once the band really got to know him, he put on a facade of humbleness and graciousness, but underneath he was overly intoxicated with being a "rock star"
@@SXI96 Assuming the show wasn't staged and pre-written right from the start to create an enjoyable viewing experience with shock and drama. Wasn't it extremely convenient that JD's "original song" was backed by a new INXS track and the viewer heard it many times on the show? He was always going to be the "winner" in my opinion.

JD is a mega beast and a perfect front man for INXS. He must have been so far gone on coke to get himself fired like that... There's no other excuse.

This kid is messed up. How sad is it, when somebody had it in their hands to be forever famous, but to completely lose it due to drugs. I hope people see what drugs can do to talent.

Talented yes. But he blew it. There’s more to this whole situation. It was his drugs that got him kicked out. And he’s obviously still using in this particular video. Got ahead of himself. He’ll get there. Very talented. But if you get kicked out of such an elite band, people will be hesitant to give him a shot.

i had a dream about JD. He was performing Pretty Vegas, wearing a blazer on the inside out and rocking on. I woke up sad after that dream.

Fortune had potential with INXS - 'Pretty Vegas' was very catchy and really fit the INXS vibe. Shame they hadn't released anything they or he wrote together with the band.

Wrote a great song. Fit perfectly for inxs probably signed tbe royalties and publishing away. They used him to tour. They made millions off 100 shows used him and threw him away!

He threw himSELF away. He obviously never read his contract, as to his position in the band (i.e. hired gun - not permanent member), and he obviously blew all his wealth on cocaine, some of which he definitely snorted before this interview, no matter what he says about being clean.
You don't go from 100 gigs with INXS to living in your car. He's made some bad decisions, and he doesn't want to admit it's his fault alone he has no fixed address.
Chris Murphy is a fool. Not even realising how much INXS needed JD too. And the rest is now history.

I get a kick outta all the people saying INXS messed up JD is good. I'm from New Glasgow and I can tell you he is a terrible person. He pray's on young girls. He isn't lieing about the coke because he does bath salts. Look in the bag he has and see the dime bag. Thats not for weed. They were legal here in 2012 too. In 2012 this town was full of them. Pandora's box JD called it. And he hung out at Fibbers all the time bragging about his drugs and INXS. That bar got shut down for drugs I think and I heard they went bankrupt. Also JD is known for cheap shotting people when they are not looking. He uses his family and friends then steals from them. Typical junkie. He is the exact opposite of Elegantly wasted.
It's really hard to break back into the business. There are millions of unplayed records, Cds, etc from millions of unknown artists. You need air play for public recognition. Sounds like JD needs a better manager. I think JD's voice is amazing.

I like J.D Fortune and he CLEARLY is a talented musician but he also CLEARLY struggles with drug issues. I have done my share of coke back in the day but honestly my drug of choice is marijuana/alcohol because I have a heart condition. J.D. felt that intense pressure to RISE to the occasion while touring with INXS. but that was TREMENDOUS PRESSURE!!!! No one is PERFECT!!!! He would have fit right in with Fleetwood Mac back in the day because they snorted shitloads of coke back in the 70s/80s!!😂😂😂😂

Not sure why you would refer to JD as "the late singer of INXS". Michael Hutchence is the late singer. JD is the former singer.

but, alas, nothing is free. the inxs guys went thru their 'rockstar' years, twenty years ago. they already watched one friend and singer go off the cliff. i can't blame them a bit for not wanting that history to repeat itself. addiction sucks... it will destroy any future an addict might dream about.
Something doesn't sit right for me when it comes to JD. JD fortune was hired gun, an employee to a business that is INXS. INXS are the bosses basically and you have the privilege of fronting this legendary band. He should not have been so arrogant when he was fronting them, and he should not be complaining now. As an artist, take what you can get and stay humble. Go watch interviews at the time he was in INXS and he acts like he owns the band, he acts like he is a full time member, and he is only complaining because it all stopped

Did he refuse to be treated like a throw rug? Or did a drug habit ruin his relationship with them? He is wrong about weed! "God's breath" dont get you high! Did they know about his situation and didnt give a damn? But if it was about songwriting conflict then he should have expected being let go. You cant come into a 20+ year band thinking your songs will be used. It COULD happen but there is a bigger chance it wont. He probably was talking shit about the songwriters and they took him out the group. This would be like winning American Idol and demanding to do your own songs! You know that aint happening! Youre new to a huge label so you should know how those execs get down. You wont be doing your own songs anytime soon as long as youre signed with them!

As good as he is he would do better in his own band he is very talented and has a great voice,good looks... NOONE can replace Michael he was a natural.. JD was trying to hard be like Michael with the moves,voice,sex appeal etc..... plus I saw no connection between him and the band, Michael and the INXs guys were all mates from highschool....... I wish him all the best and hope he gets his ish together.

Where did all his money gone!. I wonder how much money he made for the band he will never see. I think it was an underhanded thing inxs did to him. But instead of complaining you take them to court if he thinks his case is strong enough. Or get over it and get on. Mind I think there is something odd with the whole thing.
