Have had a vfr 750,tiger 955i and just bought a Cbf 1000 (2009) but I still cant get rid of my 95 Zzr 600,great bike,reliable,cheap to run, all day comfy, use it for commuting, touring and scratching...brill bikes
Owner of the zzr600 E6 or 7 here.. excellent bike! Old school at its best. Simple robust build and easy to carry out work on.
Gear box is quite chunky clunky but thats an old school feel. At 23 years old still happy to have your visor squishing your nose with the wind pressing it there hahaha
i have the D1. 1990 year and its the best thing i own
i also took the boring looking aluminium frame and polished the hell out of it. looks so much better
dated video, but still quite relevant. I discovered that according to the MCN News, the ZZr600E is better than a VFR800. ZZR600 have better 1/4 mile, lower seat hieght, lower wieght, similar top speed, better fuel economy.
And the reg/recs don't fry every 5 minutes! ;-)

Hey mate from Australia. I followed your advice. I picked one up which has 71000k on the clock, it looks and rides like a new Bike. I had many machines years ago, RZ500, RG500, lately a YZF1000 Thunderace. This Girl is every bit as good, Quite Brutal to the 150k mark. A lot of bike, a lot of Fun. I have a 93 ZX6E AND A 2001 VFR, THE ZX6E is absolutely bullet proof, I have 98 k miles on it and it runs like a well tuned piano. I love the performance of the VFR, but it does not have the durability of the ZX.
Had one a few years ago, great bikes. Fast, reliable with reasonable handling and comfort and about 54mpg if ridden with a bit of restraint. They fit me like a glove. Think I'll get another one..

I have one as a winter bike to keep my GSXR and TL clean - I paid 1100 quid for a 99 model, 18k miles and in pretty good condition.... I've done the Nissin front brake mod (buy front callipers from a 98/99 blade or VTR1000, drill the mount holes 8.8mm and tap with a M10x1.25 so you can use the original ZZR600 bolts, massively improvement over the Tokico brakes)
That 1993 model still has good styling. I have a 2002 model (ZX600-E10) which looks extremely similar, just a different paint scheme (it's red). The only complaint I have about it is that it has carbs that absolutely HATE having ethanol in the fuel. Seems that every time I get ready to ride it after it has been sitting up over the summer, the carbs are gunked up and need an overhaul. My Harley has fuel injection and it never has a problem.
Although this bike supposedly has a better riding position (sport tourer vs true sport bike), it's definitely not something that my old joints would consider "comfortable" on a long ride (at least as compared to my Harley). Whereas I can easily do a 500 mile ride in a day on the Harley and still feel pretty good, if I do it on the ZX600, my knees will be killing me and I'll be limping around (even more so than normal) the next day. Getting old sucks...
One slight disadvantage of this bike (and probably any other sport bike) is that it accelerates so quickly and has such a decent top speed that you can inadvertently exceed the speed limit by quite a bit when you are getting on the highway. The fairing combined with a full coverage helmet means that your speed can slip up on you pretty easily and before you know it, you're doing over 90 mph. I've never gotten a speeding ticket on it, but if you don't pay attention to your speed, it would definitely be easy to get one. I have never topped it out, but I did take it up to 145 mph on a very remote section of 4-lane highway back in 2004 and decided that I really didn't want to find out how fast it would ultimately go.
Other than being dropped while being moved around my garage once and while being shipped, it is in great shape cosmetically. It's been sitting up over the summer (I'm in the Houston area and we have summers that are 9+ months long) and needs the carbs cleaned / overhauled, it's in great shape. The Harley gets more use though since it's always ready to run due to having fuel injection.

@@cashouttillipassout -- Don't need the money, so probably not... Of course, if someone offered me what I paid for it, I could probably be tempted... LOL.. But I would only deal with someone in person and local, so even that remote chance is even more unlikely... In other words, it will remain a stylistic centerpiece in my garage... :) For a 20 year old bike, it really has nice styling...

@@cashouttillipassout -- Where are you located? I bought mine off a guy in Iowa when I was up there around 2005 working on a contract. It had very few miles on it at the time -- maybe 3K... Probably because Iowa is not a place to ride a motorcycle in the winter and winter takes up a good part of the year up there... It wasn't that fun to ride in in Iowa because the roads are mostly all straight and laid out on a N-S / E-W grid pattern, so no twisties to have fun with... I'm not sure how many miles I have on it now, but probably not more than another K or two... So, it is *possible* to find ones with very low miles on them... I'm in the SE Texas Gulf Coast region, so we have *slightly* more twisties than Iowa, but not much... Here's what it looks like when cleaned up:

A classic ride. I test rode one for an hour a few weeks ago. It's fast if you have no mechanical sympathy. Bit of mid range to play with but you need to be in the right gear unlike the 1100.
It's fun to play leave it in a higher gear and let it gradually pick up, as it does. Cruises well at legal speeds and is very comfortable for a sports bike. Pegs are relativity high and you do lean forward slightly but I fit it at 5'10 well. The suspension is like a magic carpet ride and it will tackle country bends very well.
I own a VFR800X Crossrunner. Which is faster everywhere in the power band but not top end. I also own a GPz500S which is actually fun.
The ZZR600 is a boring bike to be honest, once your cruising there's little excitement to it. But as a country lane bike or on B roads it's ideal.

i really would love to get one of these bikes one day.am going to go without for a while and try and save for a cheap 2nd hand model (from a dealer).have loved zzr's since the early 90's.and still are one of my dream bikes tbh.
I had one a couple of years ago and it was a good bike. I'd recommend it.

I remember racing a CBR F4 off the lights with my 93 one I had years ago he got the jump on me but I pulled him in and he was very very surprised

I am in a condition to decide between ZZR600 and VFR800, things mentioned about VFR but the fact is that the VFR800 is fuel injected, have linked better brakes, a more modern digital useful dash, better headlights and a trusty V4 balanced engine with amazing sound. Don't forget that single rear swing arm that anyone can change the rear Tyre in 2 minutes...
zzr 600s were known to have the most solid engines around, but yeah calipers are upgradable anyway

Couldn't agree more. Have a nice 2001 example. Really good build quality, underrated classic. My only gripes would be, the ZZR's quite thirsty on fuel and the crappy mild steel exhaust. Otherwise an amazing bike. Love mine.

@@chrispowell170 -- I had a Kawasaki 750 back in the early '80s that had a Windjammer frame mounted fairing on it. I don't think the tank was particularly large and at around the 100 mile point, it was time to switch to reserve and start looking for a gas station. I drove it all the way across the US, but back then, not many gas stations were open 24x7 and I have had to pull up to a pump at a gas station and sleep on the bike until they opened up the next morning because I wasn't sure I had enough gas to make it to the next little town. These days, I prefer to have vehicles that have ranges as great as possible since stopping just to refuel is just a waste of time. I would much rather have to stop because of *my* bladder capacity than my vehicles fuel capacity. :)
Maybe a bike with reduced range is not that big of a deal in the UK since it is such a small country. I've driven the length and breadth of it (rental car during the summer). Seemed like it rained a bit nearly every day I was there. Summer weather in the UK seems about the same temperature and our "winter" here in the Houston area.
Grumpy OldMan my zzr600 is a 1998 model and I’ll get 120 (ish) if I’m thrashing it or up to 180/190 if I’m just cruising at 60/70 mph
@@chrispowell170 -- I built an extended range tank for my Harley that sits on the luggage rack behind the rear seat backrest. It holds an additional 5 gal of fuel, thus doubling my range, but it seems to have a bit of an aerodynamic issue. If I remove both hands from the handlebars when it is installed, the handlebars will start to slowly wobble / shake, getting worse if I don't put my hands on the grips again. I don't notice it when riding, even with just one hand on the grips, but removing both hands will definitely do it. Without the tank installed, it is so smooth that I could ride for quite a few miles without touching the handlebars. It's not like I routinely take both hands off the handlebars, but sometimes the arthritis makes me want to take both hands off so that I can get some circulation back in the hands.
The extended range tank is plumbed into by existing fuel system so that I can open a valve after I have been riding for a bit and it will backfeed into the main tank while also feeding the engine. That gives me a bit over 400 miles, depending upon speed, headwind, etc...

Capt. Sensible. Still, a good cheap tourer if you can find a good one. Check the cush drive rubbers in the rear wheels. ZZR engines have a great induction sound.
I like the 2002 Daytona 955i as a cheap beefy engined bargain bucket sports tourer. Less thrashy with a good dollop of mid range.

I think you wanted to write zx6-r.. difference is between names given for different market. I have zzr6 , '91 and in my vehicle license it's written zzr600/zx-6r
Zx-6r was name given for USA market , and zzr for Europe. After , there was real difference between zzr600 and zx-6r ninja
Zx-6r became pure sport model , and zzr600 remained sport tourer.
