Thanks for all your vids this year Marc, look forward to seeing more in the new year, your an inspiration for us all. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you all.
Dave Moore Thanks Dave I massively appreciate that this is why I do it to get people into cars or back on with their existing projects. I have so much planned for next year so stay tuned. Have a good Christmas and a Happy New year 👍🎄😃
Good luck with your project man... I had one of those from 84 to 88. I drove it over the alps twice and the Pyrenees countless times, packed full of climbing and ski gear. I kept if going with fiberglass tape and eye-watering breaches of safe practice before I found a scrappy near Barcelona Airport with a few minis and began to salvage all the relatively cheap, rust free spare parts that the drier climate offered. Spotless rear subframe, engine mounts, suspension elements all dusty but not rusty. The vehicle even made it's way down to Cadiz, in wilting summer heat. It was a brilliant motor and would have carried on but for my having to quit Spain... xxx ;-)
Wow sounds like you have some amazing memories of a clubby estate and some real adventures to. I get what your saying about parts from a dryer climate. Thank you for watching 👍
Still catching up on videos 😂. Love the untouched look of the car . Pure get in and drive and enjoy .and you can see every piece of history outside and inside as a classic should be
Thanks John this is exactly why I love this car so much every part of it tells a story. It’s a true survivor car all be it not for everyone I understand that. It gets far more attention than any car I have owned aha
Great video. It reminds me of my Mother-in-law's Mini Clubman Saloon which she bought new in 1972. It was white (Arctic White, I think) and showed every bit of rust that ever appeared over the years. I spent many happy hours touching up the paintwork and doing other minor repairs. The car was eventually given to my wife in 1986 when it became her daily driver. She hated it because it was so unreliable (starting problems mostly) and finally gave it away to a neighbour when my Mum donated her Mini Special (1100) after she bought a Mini Thirty in 1989. I'm not sure I could stand another white Mini as every scrap of rust is so obvious.
Graham Woodier Thanks Graham. Yeah being white it shows everything but think it also gives it some character. It sounds like you have had some great minis over the years. Do you still own one?
@@SimpsonsClassics Yes. I have my Mum's last Mini - a 1992 Rover Cooper SPi in BRG with a Diamond white roof. Currently being restored the easy way with a Heritage shell and a professional paint job. I have just started bolting the bits back on - trying to use as many original parts as possible. Mum's first Mini was an Austin Seven which arrived in January 1960 so it must have been a '59 build. Sadly that is long gone (replaced by a string of Austin 1100's that rusted even faster than a Mini).
Graham Woodier hey that’s awesome nice to know that you still have a mini though. That does sound like it would have been a 59 built car shame she doesn’t still have it.
Harry Palmer Hey thanks Harry I do love the estates they are ace. People always comment on the estate, it’s mad that a lot people don’t know it’s a mini. Hate a great Christmas thanks hope you did to 👍
Nice to see an original, my first car was a 1971 Clubman estate in blue on a K plate VFK544K unfortunately crashed it twice the second time in 1977 under a tractor and trailer the insurance wrote it off but someone bought it and put it back on the road again as I saw it a few years later. Really enjoying your videos I’m currently restoring my 1993 Mini Tahiti hope to have it back on the road sometime this year . Keep up the good work and stay safe.
Hey glad your like the old estate it’s definitely one of our favourites. But understand it’s not for everyone. I am glad your still in to the minis and working away on them sounds like a nice little car you have there. All the best and thanks for watching 👍
Lovely little gem, as you say so practical - I delivered gear components to a powerstation in my L reg back in 1982 and carted 5 mates from pub to pub. We even camped in it when our tents were flattened in the beautifull Cornish summertime weather. Looked muscular with arches and decent rims in a way the saloon just couldn't muster, and handled brilliantly I guess cos the glass in the back brings the centre of mass rearward into a more nearly central position. Regularly miss EFA 386L. Hope you're still out there.
You should repair the rear doors before the bottoms rust all the way through. I know to want to keep the car as original as possible, but you can get replacenment repair panels for the bottom of the door. I just worry that if you don't address the rust before it gets to the point that it rusts all the way through. The wood on the sides looks lovely, kudos to your wife for the job. Can you get new reproduction seat covers for the original seats? Usually replacing seat covers just requires hog rings and a set of hogring pliers. it would be great if the repo seat covers were available. It really is a great car, and as you say, it is very practical.
Shane Black Lord Yes the back doors are definitely something I want to sort and I am on the look out for these. If not the panels will be source and I will repair the bottoms of them. Don’t worry. Cheers I think the wood looks awesome after her cracking work. Yes you can buy reproduction seat covers and a big price so hoping some second hand seats come up for sale. As it would match the car much better. Thanks for watching 👍

That cars so original its great! there's so many 'clean' Minis now it's nice to see some original untouched Cars are still out there. I personally think that this original look that the cars has looks better that cars that are restored and i feel it gives the car more personality as well👍
Cheers thanks for that yes we agree it’s only original once is what we think and just love it. Plan to keep it like this and just look after it. It definitely turns heads for maybe the wrong reasons lol 😂
Love this clubby! Ive got a full set of the chrome sitting in the man cave. Im wanting to put the export rear lights on mine but will ruin its originality. Recently fitted the clubman bumpers to mine and donated the van bumpers to kingvan. Keep up the great work
Thanks for the video on this car, I've seen it in other videos and as I've said before the Clubman Estate is the Mini for me. I totally agree with everything you say and have done to this car, original as possible with only the necessary updates to make it reliable, the wheels set it off really well too. Merry Christmas mate
Graeme W Hey thank you Graeme I love this old car all the little bits of character are what’s missing from modern cars these days. The clubman estate is a very useful little car as well. The wheels weren’t originally staying with this car as I bought them for my van but hey they look good so can stay for now. 👍 Merry Christmas

Glad you liked the budget clubman. This clubman estate is very clean and solid underneath which you will see in a upcoming video. Cosmetically it looks tired for sure but that’s what we love about it. I wouldn’t drive a car that was dangerous. I would love to learn more of the "wood" treatment. I have a 71 currently sorned with pieces missing both of the "wood" and the chrome trim. If you were a purist rather than a Mini lover like myself you might find thos Clubman hub caps would not have been fitted to an early estate as mime has the same as those fitted to the van and Cooper "S". Hey thanks for watching. I will try and cover the technique in a future video and run through the process. It’s not factory correct obviously but it’s a awesome finish and actually feels like wood to. Hope your project is going well. 👍
Thank you for the videos. I'm in the US and just bought one of these and having trouble finding replacement panels that are Estate specific. Is there a supplier in the UK that specializes in Estate panels...like the rear quarters, rear door patches, stuff only found on the estates?

That air filter isn't original. The original round metal housing with the downwards pointing nozzle housing on the side of it and the circular paper filter inside would have sat on top of the carbuettor held down by a threaded stud and wing nut. On my 1971 hydroelastic Clubman the wingnut used to work loose over time and the top cover would rattle every time it went over a bump. If you didn't catch it in time the wingnut would come off completely and drop down the back of the engine, usually getting stuck between the branches of the exhaust manifold and requiring a lot of effort and scraped knuckles to retrieve it. Happy days.
Veni_Vidi_Vortice Yes i did mention in this video or another that I swapped the original carb and filter out for a bigger one just for usability really as I had the head rebuilt. I have kept the original and it will go back on the car at some point for sure. I know exactly what you mean about that wing nut aha. Thanks for watching 👍
If your partner did such a fantastic job (better than new) of restoring the brown stripe down the side - why don't you ask her to do THE SAME to the roof, so they would look exactly the same? That would be nice, AND unique!
That’s not a bad idea at all. For me I don’t want to loose what the old couple did with the car originally, but that’s definitely something to think about. Cheers for watching 👍

I love this your Clubman and you must must do what you feel right.
If it was mine I would remove the blue paint but respect your reasons for leaving it,
The rear doors you obviously have great welding skills so id rebuild the bottoms then linish the metal get a good paint factors to use a spectrometer to match the paint get a few cans made up and id blow them in but use paint sparingly if its thin itll rust again then seal it from oxygen with linseed oil and you should end up with solid doors that look a bit like they do now yet very solid :)
You could used the same approach with the a panel and hole in the upper wing then a sketchy blow over let them rust and oil them ;)
I pl;an on doing something similar with my next car, there's a saying "shiny paint causes stress" its soo true you have a gem there, its all about repair make do and mend and and repairs prolong its life yet make it look like its still just aged gracefully that way ;)
