I’m a no shampoo veteran of three years. Now I only use dry shampoo once ore in a blue moon. I mix my own from corn or potato starch which I stipple on with a make-up brush. With blond hair you could put in a tiny amount of cinnamon to make it less white, my hair is dark, so I added cocoa. In my experience dry shampoo works best over night so it has time to really soak up the oils. An important part of no poo is to physically remove the oils by brushing them out. I like a tangle teaser because it can be cleaned easily. Brushing also helps with maintaining a healthy scalp. My icky sticky phase lasted several months, but I’m so glad I got through it.

Baking powder and water once a month in the shower -- that's what my grandmother and her sisters did in the depression in South Dakota. i would have recommended the Briogeo Charcoal powder dry shampoo. it cruelty-free, ethically sourced and there is no Harsh Sulfates, Silicones, Phthalates, Parabens, and No Artificial Dyes. it's a little pricey at $24 but it is worth it and it last a for long time and you dont need to use a lot of it. I love it and highly recommend it.

    Bangs + Dry Shampoo:
I apply dry shampoo with a brush at the root of my bangs and then kinda part them around and play with them and just rub it all in there. I have baby bangs and if I pushed them back too much they'd stay like that haha. I also make my own dry shampoo and it's by far the best I've ever used!

JUST USE CORNSTARCH! These dry shampoos are a scam, and they have added fragrances which are bad for your health. I've been using cornstarch in my thin hair for years, before this was even a popular common thing, and it works like a charm. Cheap, easy to get, and it adds volume and helps your hair curl (especially if you apply, then get the slightest bit damp, and either twist into a messy bun or use foam curlers overnight, this is the only way I have ever been able to get curl to hold in my hair and it WORKS). If you don't like sprinkling powder in your hair, just apply with a makeup brush! Easy peasy, no fuss, no added bs.

I love people like you who go around saying things like "FRAGRANCES ARE BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH" what exactly isn't bad for your health nowadays? Also, where's your proof? People have survived for years with fragrances, chemicals, etc and have had less issues health wise than we used to.
Do realize I'm not saying you're a horrible person or anything, but it's just hilarious to me how you people end up popping up everywhere and never able to actually prove yourselves.

@@Eventide215 It's totally true that many ppl live their lives and are largely unaffected by these types of toxins and chemicals. People like me, tend to take this stuff more seriously because we've had a health issue related to these things, and only after the fact do we learn the dangers. You'll be hard pressed to find ppl aware of this stuff who haven't suffered from cancer, infertility, are at risk for these things, or have had children with birth defects. Unfortunately in this country it takes going through that shit for this stuff to come to our attention. I wish I didn't have to think about this stuff, but that's simply not the case for me, and it sucks. I share what I've learned bc I know most ppl aren't aware. Just to clarify the fragrance thing, Phthalates are the toxin behind anything labeled with added "fragrance" and one of the things it's shown to increase risk of is breast cancer, which runs in Devins family. Also, it's surprisingly not that difficult to find products that are fragrance free, or scented naturally with essential oils, you just have to know what to avoid, unfortunately it's an unnecessary additive in many dry shampoos. Here is one of many articles that talks about this issue, since you asked for proof: www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/feb/10/phthalates-plastics-chemicals-research-analysis

    Hey!
If you will put your dry shampoo on right after you blow it dry, or it is air-dried, (while it is Clean, basically) it will keep your hair from getting as oily! Then you can use less over the next few days. :) try your best not to overload your scalp with the powder (just as much as possible..) Because it will start producing more oil to compensate. :) Not a huge biggie.. A lot of your dislike right now is your roots not being done.. That's all of us, babe.. That's why you don't have the volume you usually love.. Thank you so much for doing this video!! I've been shopping for new dry shampoos for weeks! You did all the ones I've been looking at. Loving your video. :)

I’m generally running on 90% dry shampoo life. I wash my hair once a week. I smash my hair in the evening with a heavy coat of dry shampoo. Rub it in. And then go to bed. In the morning, oily greasy mess be gone! If I work out, and I say if. As soon as I’ve finished, I go in with the dry shampoo and rub and massage in. As the sweat dries the dry shampoo soaks the oils up and we’re good to go again. Dry shampoo is life. Love your work Devin ♥️

The Pret-a-Powder is $29 for 2 oz... Hair Dance is $10 for 1 oz, so $20 for 2 oz.... if they work comparably, then saving $4 an oz is definitely worth it, but the volume of product is also definitely worth considering before you buy.
Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I use the pret-a-powder on a regular basis - I have really thick, fine hair and it works miracles, and even with all my hair, a bottle lasts forever.

The last one she used definitely kept her hair looking better longer, and was a bigger container, so it's likely in the long run that one would be better. Though it does also come down to how much you personally use it, what you can afford, and so on.

I excel at creating oil. My teenage acne turned into adult acne and I still have moderate acne while going on 11 years of birth control. All that to say, my head and scalp get super oily, and I have fine hair. My method for my ashy blonde hair is to apply way too much batiste in the evening, like my hair is white at the roots. I then brush it through so it looks a little less dramatic but still obvious. Then I sleep on it. By morning all my tossing and turning has softened it so it looks almost natural, just a touch ashier than usual. And no grease! That’s my ridiculous dry shampoo routine!

Two things to check out: R+Co Spiritualized, I use this on my bangs, it's a liquid spray "dry" shampoo (I know that makes no sense) and then just hit them quickly with a brush and blow-dryer. And then the Lush dry shampoo - the bottle is awful, and yes it's a white powder, but it soaks up so much oil and gives a lot of volume - you just need to be sure to brush it out well.

You should try the hair story powder. It creates a lot of volume and absorbs oil.

My hairstylist told me that you should use dry shampoo before it gets greasy not after and honestly that changed my dry shampoo game completely.

My mom’s pro tip is put dry shampoo in the night before so it can really soak in all night long... hate to say it, but my momma is right- works like a CHARM

Can someone explain to me why my hair gets so much greasier once the blonde starts to grow out? Is it truly because the blonde hair is so dry, or is it just that the brunette bits enhance the contrast of greasy roots?

I think for a better comparison it would help if every dry shampoo had the same starting hair situation. No hate, just want to give constructive criticism :) I really like your channel!

So dry shampooing bangs is a pain in the bootang and what you did is perfect. Basically I spend all day trying to get rid of powder residue. I think you’re supposed to put it underneath? Does anyone actually know what to do?

I have super-dark, super-oily hair, and use dry shampoo. The cheaper, aerosol dry shampoos (like Batiste, like $6-8 a can) work fine for me.
You need a boar bristle brush, and a super-cheap, super scrubby washcloth (like, the kind you see in 12-packs at walmart for 3 bucks kind of scrubby).
Dry-shampoo your hair at night *before* it appears super-oily. Section and ponytail/bun any areas that won't need any/much dry shampoo. Working in sections, with head flipped upside down, spray your roots *from at least* 6 inches away. Don't let the hair get white; you can always add more later if you need it. Let it sit there; don't fiddle and start immediately brushing. Move on to the next section while it sits.
Once all sections have been sprayed, stand upright, drink some wine, pet your cats. Then gently start fluffing the roots with your fingers. Let your dizziness from the blood rushing to your head subside.
Grab the board bristle brush, flip head back upside down, and start brushing it through. Once you've given all areas an upside-down brushing, flip back up, fluff again with fingers, and take a look. Remember, it's night-time, it's not supposed to look perfect; we're trying to soak up oil, looking good is for tomorrow.
Is your hair *white* in any places? Brush there. Paler than normal *is fine*, and is a sign there's enough there to soak oil up through the night, and can be left for tomorrow. Go to sleep!
In the morning, get up, flip upside-down and brush again. Stand up and assess, while sectioning with your fingers to check your problem areas. Are there any missed patches? Are we still looking chalky? For missed patches, carefully spot-spray. For chalkiness, grab that cheap-ass washcloth, DAMPEN (not wet. DAMP!) slightly with water, then rub over chalky bits of hair. This will get any *actual* excess off you, while having slept with it in allows it to actually do the work of soaking up oil, and while letting it disperse a bit more while your head moves on the pillow, resulting in less chalkiness.
Once any residual chalkiness has been wiped off, style as normal.
The damp washcloth also helps get deodorant off clothes, btw.
