    Hello,
    Just a little tip to get the stitch marks to go the other way just use the other side of the leather.
    If you have thin leather go right through , if a bit thicker the use an awl.

    Jo, was that bridle leather? You make me envious when you cut your points and rounds - I can't do it well even with a template!

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  7 років тому +2

      Hiya +HonestDoubter, yes I used 2-2.5mm bridle shoulder for this one. It's all about practice with points, if you have scrap bits of leather you can use them to just cut points over and over.

    hi Jo, thank you for sharing your passion.
    practical splitter machine i've seen in your videos, where can i find one? or if you advise of something else

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  7 років тому

      Hello +Hassan el Sayyed, glad you like the videos 😁 The splitting machine I have is a Joseph Dixon one, unfortunately they have gone out of business. You could possibly pick one up off ebay though. Weaver leather supply do one called "economy heritage leather skiver", C.S Osborne do a splitting machine and tandy leather craft also sell one. (if you are in the UK Abbey England sell the Osborne ones). Hope this helps. Jo

      that was quick. didn't find a JD, but ended up with interesting options at Bruce Johnson's Vintage Leather Tools brucejohnsonleather.com/leather-tools-sale/leather-bench-machines-sale/
      thank you Jo

    Hi Jo, I love watching your videos. How much would you normally charge for an average sized phone case?

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  6 років тому

      Hi Gaz, glad to hear you like the videos 😁 I usually charge about £50 for this sort of case, I've just had some more complex cases ordered with a silicone/plastic case to be stitched in to the leather and made into a book type case which will cost more (due to the extra time to make them) hope that helps. Jo

    • @gaz0463
      @gaz0463 6 років тому +3

      J.H.Leather Wow £50 seems incredibly reasonable considering all the time and effort you put into it, not to mention your beautiful workwomanship and the materials. Like I said I love your videos they are thoroughly absorbing. Really looking forward to your next one.

    Great...a new video...! Just finished watching your last one....Would it be possible to film the making of a crupper and dock, the correct way, linseeds and all...? I spent a year at Capel Manor, couldn't afford 2nd year, sadly missed lots of stuff...I think people would find that very interesting, not just me. I admire your work. Thanks !

    There seams to be a trend of putting belt loops really low on the part !
    I like whatever I have on the belt not to ride higher than the top of my belt .

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  6 років тому

      Hi Dale, if you don't want the belt loop there you can make a slightly different loop to attach that will let the case hang from the belt instead. You will need to have a strip of leather that you can fold around your belt and can then be stitched onto the case. Hope that makes sense, Jo

    7:40.. In the illustration. The side piece. The lines are running the other direction on the end where its rounded. Only that end are the lines leaning left.. Is that a mistake or is that right?

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  6 років тому

      I didn't notice that, the normal stitch marks are all around on the side pieces and the portmanteau are on the main body where these attach. Sorry for the mix up in my diagram!

    Why does the angle of the pricking irons matter, since you're poking it with a sewing awl, anyway?

    • @JHLeather
      @JHLeather  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, so the awl is shaped like a diamond and not round and needs to follow the slant of the irons to get the stitching correct.
