The sad facts about this small community is that the People were let down by successive Irish Governments ,
People and the Public should be aware of the facts on why this Island Community is declining fast in its Population numbers,
This is also the case in many small fishing communities all along the West Coast of Ireland who have been let down and
did not get proper representation from their elected Ministers of all Political Parties,
In the 10 year span from 1965 to 75 the West Coast Fishermen started to Modernize their Fishing Fleet from the Bigger Trawlers to the small inshore fishermen who fished seasonally with 19 to 20 ft punts and Traditional Clinker Built Half Decker's from 27 foot to 38 foot long,
These People supplemented their families with fishing Salmon mainly in the month of June only and a small few fishing
    Crab and Lobster,
Just as the Indigenous small Communities were able to afford safer fishing boats the worst was to happen in 1973
when Ireland became a member of the EEC the European Economic Community,
This was the Death nail for many of our Western Communities as no one was there to fight for their Rights ,Traditions ,
    and Culture,
By 1974 the Irish Trawler Fleet were dumping Thousands of Tonnes of Mackerel in the Hills of Donegal and Conemara
being landed at Burtonport , Killybegs , Rossaveal and many more,
This was the System designed to keep prices up for the Consumer,
By 1976 the Irish Navy started harassing Licenced Seasonal Salmon Fishermen and Confiscating their Nets ,
Then in around the Early 80ts a small compensation package was offered to some fishermen to give up their Licence
which was a way of making sure the next Generation would not have a Tradition or the means of a Livelihood,
The People who did not take up the Salmon Compensation Scheme were gone anyways as all the Areas were closed
    down by 2006,
So in effect this Island Community only ever had an increase in Population in the early 70ts before Ireland Joined the EU,
It only took 33 years membership for Traditions and a way of life to be destroyed forever,
Its a sad fact that it was the same Political Party in Ireland in Ireland that brought this Country into the EU in 1973 that it was the same Party that Destroyed all these small Western Inshore Communities in the space of 33yrs ,
It also should be noted that the same Party had more Minsters for Energy when most of the Peoples Natural Resources
were sold out without any Discussions,
It really was a Pity that the Minister from an Inland County got so Drunk at such a crucial time in Brussels the night before
the Important Decisions were being discussed for Ireland,s Fishing Industry,
Its a sad affair that so many Families and small communities have lost a way of life because the failure of the few,
It should be remembered that in the Survey of Ireland,s Rivers in 1980 we had 520 Rivers that supported Salmon ,Eeel,
and Trout, In the 2006 Survey of Irish Rivers we have only 20 Rivers that supports the same species,
This is because of Farm and Chemical Pollution and not to blame the small Island Communities fro the dwindling
Salmon Stocks, This is Scientific Facts,
It should also be recorded that it was Minister Noel Dempsey who made sure he got through the EU directive in
October 2006 to Completely Ban Salmon Fishing on the West Coast,
The Same Minister that sold a Large Gas field off the Wexford Coast to a Company from Texas,
Where is Democracy now for a Country that won its Freedom from being the oldest Colony of the Empire
to be ran into the Ground by a Shower of Greed,

Living in Canada now but if there was work I would move there in a heart beat. Unless they were in need of Care Aides, Painters or Drywallers we would have no way to survive.

My wife and I deal with Property Management. With an island that big, Im not sure how much work we'd be able to get there, for sure.

I agree. The island is so small too. I can see why they are struggling but it sure would be a beautiful little piece of paradise. Definitely worth a little bit of research though, if only for curiosity sake.

It looks so awesome there! I see they are looking for people to move there with declining populations. If I had skills in the tech industry (as they are asking for) I'd be gone tomorrow :( Wish there was a job listing somewhere of the things they could use not tech related.
