Thanks mate, yes I felt the same watching Gilmour, nice to know that he's human and that there was a clear amount of growth he achieved (as we all can!)

Gilmour has said how uncomfortable he was during that period. He was filling in for Barret who was still a member of the band, but his drug issues left him undependable for live shows so Gilmour had to take on Syd's roll in the band. I don't think Dave was even an official member of Pink Floyd at the time. Gilmour has said it wasn't until he started to bring his own style to the band that he felt good about the situation. By the way Gilmour was a friend of Syd Barret and that's how he ended up getting the call as the band had met him previously thru Barret. It was an interesting turn of events for sure.

That third song really needs Syds voice. Gilmours is too soft and clean.
Can you tell that Gilmour was a model? lol.

For me, after the initial enjoyment of their early "musique concrete" and experimental style, I kind of lost interest. I just don't find it to be very rewarding for multiple listens. There just isn't sufficient depth to hold interest. I think Piper was a great album, the way it fused the more experimental stuff with Syd's whimsical pop creations. But their live stuff from that time gets old quick. I love Rick Wright, but the organ noodlings in just about every breakdown from songs of that era shows they were really at the end of what they could do with that style. For me, 1970 - '79 was just about an amazing period of growth and development as I've ever seen in a band.

Yeah, they grew from a genuinely pioneering experimental band into a total fucking bore.

I love Syd’s style and David Gilmour’s. Accept for the Beatles, these five men were the best around. IMHO

"Full Time Musician" that doesn't really know about Pink Floyd? I need to move to the antipodes if this is the level. Oh wait! You tube grifter? Silly me.

Syd was the main songwriter in primal Pink Floyd. He leaves and the bass player who showed zero songwriting ability ends up being one of the greatest songwriters of all time...Roger Waters. What a band!

Yes, they were miming that show.
Syd wrote the lyrics and the basic chords, I think. This was their 2nd single.

All 3 songs are Barrett era Floyd first album.
Gilmour singing these songs is probably either 2nd album time frame where Syd wasn't showing up or he just been asked to leave.
