I think he functions better as a side character. I get that cameos are overdone, but it would sort of make sense in the Mandalorian? Din is sort of an intelligence agent now too
I would also love that -- how did he learn the code phrase? Where did he get the idea to use Ezra's old house? Was there someone in the Rebellion who knew his identity before he revealed it to the Ghost crew? Not to mention serving under Thrawn that whole time! It would be super interesting.
And Rex thought beside the greatest Jedi of his order he led a Clone Unit alongside his General in some of The Clone Wars most shittiest battles like Christophsis, 2nd Battle of Geonosis, Umbara, Anaxes, Yerbana and led alongside Ahsoka during The Mandalore Campaign

Both thought they were fighting for the right side, both were proven wrong when they inevitably got tossed to the side. Rex and Kallus have a lot in common. Both were seen as easily replaceable and both were tossed by the empire because of it.

One of the things Star wars got right is the orbital blockades you don't need to block every part of a planet's orbit. You only need to block a few key points and that's especially true when you consider they typically Park their orbital blockades outside the planetary hyperspace lanes because if a ship's going to jump to the planet, it's going to come through that very specific point because that's where it needs to come through in order to enter the atmosphere without burning up
