LEGENDARY Marine - Dan Daly - Forgotten History
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- Dan Daly, an excellent marksman with his had selected his killing ground and it would be the longest single handed standoff in American history. The Boxers had a few artillery set up less than 1,000 yards away to fire almost level and point blank. Daly kept picking off the artillerymen, one by one as they were replaced with new “targets”. The Chinese finally abandoned their artillery, easy pickings for Daly. Written and Hosted by Colin D. Heaton. Forgotten History is a 10th Legion Pictures Production.

Dan Daly, I have to admit I never heard of him before. What at true life hero! Thank you for presenting this story about him!
So many lost to history, thats why #forgottenhistory and others are such great presenters! Fun random fact...Daly inspired this guy to join, whom then served with an another medal of Honor recipient, Clint Romesha when he was an tanker and I Infantry. Daly-"you S.o.b's wanna live forever?!" , Romesha-"We’re Taking this Bitch Back”!"
That’s a bank guard you don’t want to mess with!!
Great work sir!! Rest easy!!
Thanks 👍
Old guy here. How appropriate that he was born November 11!
The original devil dog.
Simper Fi.
10 November is the Marine Corps Birthday. He was born one day late!!!!
@@BiblicalFlatEarth Back in 1775, my Marine Corps came alive...
I learned in a book printed in England that the USMC predates Nov 10. Some colonies had their own Navys with a compliment of Marines. Connecticut, they were known as the "Original Eight." Plus, I have an ancestor from my grandma's family in Pennsylvania, Capt Joseph Moulder,60 yo, who turned the tide at Trenton with a company of teenage dockworkers(some of the first Marines?)and three canon firing grapeshot masterfully overwhelming the lobster backs. He was court martialed for not giving up the fight.
Dan Daly was a man who, like many other early-to-mid-20th Century Soldiers and Marines, will never be replicated. It's difficult for anyone to stand out in today's conflicts, and while we've had a number of MOH and Service Cross recipients, they have been essentially placed on a "close hold" status since WWII, meaning, they're removed from the conflict and used as propaganda and/or recruiting tools. Of course, many living recipients of higher military honors simply opt to retire to otherwise exit the military these days.
One has only to look at our senior leaders. Let's take the Abrams family, for example. Father Creighton and the older two sons have multiple awards for valor, while the youngest, Robert, who I served under in 3ID, has an impressive ribbon rack full of participation trophies. I retired with something along the lines of 14 medals and ribbons, the highest being the MSM. Eighty-plus years ago, we might have seen someone sporting "only" eight US medals, including a DSC, a couple of Silver Stars, and Bronze Stars with 'V' devices, and the usual campaign medals. Now, our senior leaders sport colorful ribbons, but they conspicuously lack 'V' devices, Silver Stars, Service Crosses, or [especially] MOHs. That men like Daly lived full lives is evidence that the American Fighting Man will prevail over all foes, including domestic ones that seem to be on the offensive in the past few years.
I found it cool that he and the other Marines were using the 6mm Lee Navy.
The smallbore cartridge was too ahead of its time for the powders and metallurgy of the day.
Oh I remember the award ceremonies where just the office clerk/S shop types and officers getting award after award...than Infantry guys like me getting their umpteenth "achievement medal" for actual combat🙄 Silver and bronze stars and even a few with V became candy pins and questionable to me. Its really sad what the military command has done to most medals and awards. I my self, on the battle field, addressed my shrapnel wound = 0 purple heart, someone whom goes to the medic after an distant explosion was heard for an head ache... congrats! VA care for life and special state privileges!
Was never forgotten in my world.
If this came out as a movie everybody would slam it as unrealistic. I never heard of him. Thank you so much for telling his story.
A straight up grade +A badass! Rest well Marine. You've earned it! I salute you sir. 🇺🇸
Yes, more content like this please Colin. I’ve never heard of Dan Daly until today. Fingers crossed that the algorithm gives this its due attention.
This man is a straight up G. Thanks for teaching me about him.
Wow what a soldier. Great video.
He's a marine
@@bettyschnauber8238 you are completely right, I was wrong to say soldier. Thank you.
And Dont ever forget it a Glen.cove. Long.Island marine
I think the most underrated part of this is he was 5’6! thats insane to think about considering he was fighting single handedly with a bayonet. truly a warrior
As a Marine brat I heard his name several times. This is the first time I've heard his story. Wow! Thanks Colin.
Daly should have had a third MoH. The MoH was reviewed and many previous Medals were revoked and a limit was put on the MoH. Not saying if this was right or wrong, but it is part of the history of the Medal of Honor.
He certainly should have gotten one for Belleau Wood
I found it crazy how all these countries fighting together against the Boxers, would be at each other's throats within another 15 years
Daly was tired of MOHs by then.
@@jamieholtsclaw2305 He WAS a walking MOH by then
Thank you for that comment.
Upon overview of his paperwork for a third MOH. It is said that the Secretary of Defense stated:
I don’t care what he did?
No enlisted man deserves three Medals of Honor.
Oft times I’ve wondered how it is that those in whom have never stepped foot into harm’s way?
Are allowed to make the decisions for those who do?
Semper Fi and DeOpresso Liber
Respectfully submitted from a disabled Veteran and Gold Star dad
You know you're a bad, BAD dude when you hold Legend status in a branch like the Marine Corps.
You're video brings tears to my eyes.
May our United States never forget our warriors. May we never forget what's possible in us.
Yet another outstanding video Prof. Heaton. Dan Daly, Semper Fi my Brother
Much appreciated
The man is a Paragon. Semper Fi!
Dan Daley is who you are thinking of, when you are thinking of a US Marine, square jawed fearless and a fine marksman. Picking off the guys manning the artillery, less than a thousand yards, that sounds like a long shot with iron sights.
It is a really long shot with iron sights. My eyes were 20/15 and I could hardly see a target at 300 yards. I could hit it though.
@@ih8pcsinboca my best friend and his daughter both have that eagle eye vision.
Excellent history lesson that I truly enjoyed. I've never heard of Dan Daly before now. Incredible man, and an extraordinary Marine...
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank You Colin for bringing this Man to our attention.
Best Wishes to You and Your Family.
Thank you for bringing his story to light
0:45: One other double winner of the MoH--Captain Tom Custer, kid brother of a certain well-known general. He was the first double awardee. One MoH was won for valor at Namozine Church on 3 April 1865; three days later, he won another at Sailor's Creek.
Wow, what a story. Thank you for all the work and then sharing.
Holy Smokes !!! What a legacy !!!
(Is there a biography on his life or a movie that depicts his military activities?)
Can’t imagine the terror of being the sole defender of a wall using hand to hand combat to repel waves of advancing enemies.
Sounds terrifying. 🫡
Another excellent episode about an outstanding American.
Colin - another superb episode !!!
Of course, such a legendary man can only die from himself. His own heart took him out as opposed to the hands of any enemy. Rest in Peace, Sergeant Major Daly
Today is a good day. I learned new things. Thank you, Sir.
You are very welcome
Your channel is so interesting and fascinating too! I appreciate the labor and dedication it takes to gather all this info and supporting photos/vids. This is a GREAT service and I have passed along your episodes many times.
Wow, thank you!
SGM Dailey may have lead my Grandfather un WW1. Pvt. Eddie C. Smith, from Liberty Mo.
Grandpa was in the 3rd Marine Regiment went all thru the War and was Wounded in October of 1918.
Honestly that distinguished service cross should have been a 3rd Medal of Honor.
Excellent presentation! Fair winds and following seas SgtMaj Daly & Semper Fi.
Glad you enjoyed it
Forgotten, no, not for those who have bothered to read and study the history of the United States. There was a time when our history was taught, and it was something to be proud of. While I have some issues with Smedley Butler, I do not have any issues with his actual service. Sargent Major Daly's service and the actions he was so heavily decorated for are well over 100 years in the past, Yet he is remembered by name to many. Most others from that era would be remembered by family, if any. We Americans never dwell much on the past; we look forward; at the time of the Boxers, the United States was pretty tight with the Russians. Look it up; it's quite interesting; as usual, Dr Heaton, you managed to cover all the bases of the Sarget Major's life in 20 min.
I reremember in my recruiter's office there were many posters. This reminds me of pride of belonging. To wear the same uniform as these great leaders fits. Absolutely understand how he wanted to unwind. No doubt he loved just being a bank guard. If only the patrons knew who was there to assist. A contrast of SGTMAJ Daly to John I want to throw my medals (someone else's I think) over the white house fence.
Good episode, this is a real lesson that should be taught.
Wow I can’t believe I never heard his story. Thanks
Great video!!! If I remember correctly his place of employment was never robbed in an era when that was happening a lot. Even the crooks knew better. 😂👍
How many movies and books are there about stuff Dan Daly did in real life? They call them Devil Dogs because of that guy.
2300 of the medals were awarded to irish Americans and 240 to irish born
I don't know if he was a man of faith, but the good lord certainly watched out for him R,I,P,
Good video
I’ve known about him for years and read of his exploits
Fuckin A, Bad to the Bone, Rest in Peace Brother
Colin
Always a pleasure watching your work. Semper Fi Marine
Hero, Semper Fi, RIP
Wow, never heard of this man, but I thank him for his service!
Little known fact: Dan Daly fathered Chuck Norris.
LOL. Thanks for watching
Greetings from Australia. In an era of woke BS, transgender and the male patriarchy rubbish, I challenge those supporters to hear this great and humble US Marine. This bloke did his duty so you wierdo snow flakes have plenty of spare time to whine and complain about nothing and live in your ridiculous unreal world. Thank for your service and Lest we forget you Dan.
Another fact, Red Bull is Chuck Norris piss.
False
thank you
You're welcome
Dan Daly is the closest thing to a father I've ever had
The best narrative of this great man I have heard. I thought he also fought in Mexico? I also think I heard that he bayoneted the Chinese on the wall because the small caliber, high velocity cartridge used in the Lee Navy wouldn't put them down?
Oh my gosh, I never knew this
Hell Hounds is a much more meaningful title if you know German folk lore and monster stories. Hell Hounds and Werewolves became interchangeable at some point, but don’t look up old depictions or stories about them if you’re getting ready for bed.
Hi Mr Collin I was wondering when do we get some more videos from your son? I hope you are both well and healthy :D Keep the videos coming !! Much love from Portugal !
My son Max has not done any videos, but thanks for watching
Come on you S.O.Bs. Do you want to live forever? Dan Daly makes Rambo look like a boy scout!!!
The Hound of Hell
That would be a great name for a movie that accurately depicts the life of Dan Daly.
With the horrible recruitment numbers and the lack of trust the public have for our government, A story like his will still lead many to join.
The story of one motivated Marine! Once a Marine always a Marine! SEMPER FI SARGENT MAJOR Dan Daily !
Oorah Colin
Great stream with Veteran Biker..👍👍
I wish there was a way you could teach Marines our history in Boot Camp Sir.
Like the navy the marines are rich in history.
Pretty sure there were 5 Marine double MOH recipients. 3 of them were earned during the Battle of Belleau Wood where 3 Marines where awarded the Army version of the MOH to go with previously earned Navy versions. I just read about this after watching the Fat Electricians video on Dan Daly
Some were rescinded
@@FORGOTTENHISTORYCHANNEL Kukela, Hoffman and Kelly were the 3 Marines who earned their second Medals of Honor at Belleau Wood. All 3 were Marines two were prior service Army. Not sure if it was inter service rivalry that kept them not well known? Or something else. The fact remains that 3 other Marines received 2 MOH's.
Don't know how to give the marine Corp grunt on paper. But just gave one.
If he was alive today and witnessed what’s going on in our military today
Rest in peace
Good men, outstanding men usually dream of the simple pleasures, a warm day with sun on your face and a smile that could melt lead and all her love
NOT
celerity or cameras
Hard times made a good man .
I had forgotten about the old butt stroke to the head series move.
Sir, can you do a video of another Legend, Audie Murphy??
Why does the picture to the video show an Air Force Cross following the Navy Cross?
Semper Fidelis
Semper Fi.
Dan Daly was a Marine so great, most modern people would have to stand on their mama's shoulders just to kiss his ass!
LoL
They been making marines that way since 1775 .
Semper Fi, Marine.
Semper Fi
Good video!!!
He could have had even more MOH for those other brave actions, but the higher-ups probably thought that giving more would devalue it & two were enough.
How about Iron Man Lee or Harold Roberts
Dan Daly was only 64 when he died! I am surprised that he died of a ‘heart attack’ because he must have been physically fit. It may have been the tobacco that damaged his coronaries.
This is the clinical version of Dan. The Fat Electrician does the entertaining version. Both worth the watch. Dan Daly was quite the man.
Marines: nobody likes to fight but somebody has to know how.
Dan Daly: rolls and lights cigarette, chuckles, fixes bayonet.
Yes, Dan Daly was a legend, but keep in mind that the MOH was the ONLY military medal that existed until WW1. That is why thousands were awarded in the Civil War (to include a woman nurse) and only a trickle since the hierarchy of medals we have today.
And now they're worried about pronouns and get anxiety when they piss, confused whether they should stand or sit.
He who Chesty makes proud.
Daly absolutely deserves his MOH's but i can't understand why Chesty Puller with his 5 Navy crosses alone never received a single MOH.as far as a limit on how many MOH 's a active military individual can earn i don't understand either because as long they're in uniform and serving our country there's a chance they'll be in harm's way again.i don't get it?
Chesty pissed off a lot of people with political clout
He should have gotten a third during WW1.
Disney 😡😡😡😡 that company is bad news and its founder Is rolling in his grave 😡😡😡😡😡
Paulie???
Thanks for watching
Gulf 1 or Bosnia
If, i am correct Dan Daly killed Haitian blacks to get his medals. I could be wrong, eventhough, i was a Marine.
Thanks!
Thanks for your support! We really appreciate it
Question. Were the Chinese Christians of the Catholic faith?
Both Catholic and Protestant, many Lutheran
@@FORGOTTENHISTORYCHANNEL thank you.

True heroes
God bless his family! SEMPER FI!!
Proof that chinese is just quantity and no quality.
"Come on, you sons of bitches! Do you want to live forever?!"
The inspiration for Starship Troopers
If I was a History teacher l, I would definitely show those videos to my students. They are not teaching true History in schools today, especially public schools.
And Add A Good Civics Class to That !
The powers that be are too busy rewriting history to teach it.
That slowly started under Woodrow Wilson and has been going on ever since. It’s gotten real bad the last r twenty years. WW was the first Progressive. Obama was the second .
Chesty Puller's heroes were Civil War generals. Even as a boy he knew how important they were to the country's legacy.
When I was in College a History Professor told us a statement that stuck with me. He said History’s not what happened, It’s what people thinks happened.
Now He is a truly forgotten hero. A legendary badass!
He should have gotten a 3rd medal of honor for his action of ww1
I lived in Brooklyn and I lived in Glen Cove. Which is where he lived. I never heard of him before, but what a guy he was!
As a U.S. Marine we knew who Dan Daly was. However the woman awarded the medal should not have received it because what she did while tremendous was not up to what the MOH required
