Ted, thanks for your review and list. That Kawai at the end sounded especially sweet. I've had a series of Kurzweils over the years, but purchased a Roland RD-700GX and have been playng that for the past ~15+ years. Might be time to finally purchased something new. I couldn't help but notice the Yammy CP-80 electric grand piano in the background. I was an Army soldier stationed in West Germany in the 80's and purchased a CP-80 and a DX-7 synth from the local music shop in downtown Fulda. Shocked quite a few senior NCO's and officers when they came through for inspection and saw a piano in a soldier's barracks room!

Another good video from Alamo Music Center. I enjoy hearing Ted’s opinions and instruments demos.

I got a CA901 this year. It is incredible sounding. If you want the most out of it, you will still use it as a MIDI controller and play virtual instruments from the likes of VSL.
The onboard sounds are really good, but lack volume. They are not as good as a good virtual instrument, however, and that goes for all flagship models from all brands.

Very true, but I will say I upgraded my Roland RD88 to EX pianos and they are VERY good, up there with VST's.

I can play hot cross buns. I guess I need something modest like a Steinway Model M?

No sign of the Clavinova's? What about the new 800 series that's just come out. I went with the new CLP 875, some of your other videos put me off the Kawai pianos as you refer to the action being on the lighter side.

Hi, what has been your experience with your CLP-875?

    • @davidleigh3346
      @davidleigh3346 2 дні тому

@lf5147 I really like it. The action is absolutely solid and the piano samples are stunning. I used to play a lot of classical and have really lost the strength in my fingers. The action on the CLP875 is really helping me get that strength back again. This is what I don't understand with so many manufacturers - the actions seem to be getting lighter.
When you live in a remote part of Scotland like me, it's best to go with what you know, rather than order something online and regret it. Can't understand why Yamaha got rid of their NWX action, this was a solid and very reassuring piano to play.

@@davidleigh3346 that's really interesting. I am beginner and I recently went to try both acoustics and digitals and my feeling was the most digitals are too light compared to average acoustics. It seems that I have a preference for heavier actions. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try the 875, but a lot of people online say it is "too heavy", so I wonder if I would actually like it as you do. I tried the 885, it felt good, but not great.

@@lf5147 A good in-between piano in regard to action is, I would argue the Roland's HP702 with the PH4. I play this regularly and also I have the FP60X. The PH4 is a bit lighter but has a very solid feel and is one of the best actions in my opinion, and Roland are cheaper by comparison.

@@davidleigh3346 I tried the HP704. I liked the action, but I didn't love the sound of it. I much prefer Yamaha's CFX sample. The 875 might be a good fit for me. Thank you answering it!

Hi, can someone tell me how does Kawai CA901 compare to Kawai MP11SE? I want to buy one, but Kawai CA901 is significantly pricier, so I don't know if I should get it.

The CA901 has a superior action, the latest processing chips, and the latest sound card/tone engine available. It's also a complete instrument. I have a CA99, the predecessor to the CA901. It has the same action, but the sound card is one generation older. With that said, it sounds phenomenal. It's as realistic as it can possibly be. I have never played an MP11SE. My understanding is that it is also an excellent instrument with high quality sounds. I have played the RH3 action on another model and it is definitely a high quality realistic action. As far as price, with the MP11SE, you also have to add the cost of a hefty stand, monitors, and cables to get the final cost (unless you already have them). Once you do that, the prices start to look similar.
Edit: Both instruments have the Grand Feel action.

@@kebeightyfour5717 I believe the MP11SE has the Grand Feel action - not the RH3 (the MP7SE has the RH3).

Pure White Pianos are Hideous.... I would take ANY color over white. But some must like it cause they are available for sale. To each his own!

Agree, you'd think they'd be appealing but Idk what kind of person you need to be or diva to have one? maybe you're a piano collector and want one for a certain room/feel idk
