So something good happens to him and she finds a way to make him feel shitty about it? Why in the world would anyone stay in a relationship with a woman like this?
Months earlier when he lost $30K (in one hand), it shook him to the core, to the point where he thought he had a gambling problem and quit poker cold turkey. She was there to console him and support his decision and to help him focus on his education. In this scene, it feels like all their progress is about to unravel (which it is). The last-minute mention of Worm reentering their lives surely didn’t help instill her with confidence.
The wet blanket girlfriend in sports movies was a a long running trope, Gretchen Mol might be at the top of the list though, it’s her and Adrienne from Rocky 4 in the finals.
Jo has a point most of the time when she's pissed in this movie (remember, Mike *did* lose $30,000 in one night), but it's completely uncalled for here. Is it really that hard to believe that Mike would happen to run across people playing cards and develop a connection through their shared interest? And it's weird that she doesn't believe that he wasn't playing cards when he literally hasn't played a hand for 9 months at this point.
He’s lied to her before about gambling, and he’s going to lie to her again after this scene. She’s nervous about him being near a poker game again for the same reason you’d be nervous if a recovering alcoholic met some guys drinking together for the first time in months. It makes sense that she’s uneasy about it.
Did Matt and Gretchen date each other while/after they made this movie? I seem to remember him always pairing up with his costars before he married that waitress from Miami and settled down.
You don't know whether to love Gretchen for the eye candy she is in that tight black sweater, or to hate her for not respecting her boyfriend's choices...
Why do so many women want to hold their man down, boss him, control him, and keep him from the things he enjoys? Maybe a woman would be better off finding a guy with the qualities she wants, instead of forcing some poor schmuck into being what she wants. I know...I'm asking the same question guys have asked for thousands of years...
Hmm well, I think I have read somewhere that male and female brains are built differently. Generally, women tends to improve things (even when things are good now) and men tends to leave things the way they are, save their energy to do something else. I totally agree with your comment by the way. Have a good day!
The whole scene seems so contrived. What guy would discuss his work life like this with his girlfriend, and what girl would wait around to rail into her man like this?
Like the Doors said, girl ya got to love your man. It seems women think their job is to 'raise their man' instead of supporting their man, and if ya can't support your man then find a guy who wants to be raised.
Gretchen Mol is so lovely.
Harvey Weinstein thought so too
Absolute best part 2:52 Gretchen’s sarcasm and look of sheer joy 🤣
She is the most gorgeous elegant woman in the history even kate beckinsale is 2nd to her.
This is my favorite movie of all time especially with Matt Damon in it he is so handsome and very talented
So something good happens to him and she finds a way to make him feel shitty about it? Why in the world would anyone stay in a relationship with a woman like this?
why would anyone befriend a loser, cheater, dishonest loathsome man like Worm, the ultimate maggot?

Duhhhh, take one look at her and there's your answer. Lol.
Oh right why would a young college guy stay with a beautiful blonde? I’ve seen guys put up with much worse for much less.

Oh to be kissed by MATT DAMON!

@@LynnHarrod true enough but there has to be trust in a relationship. she just was really un-trusting of him in this scene
Never trust a junkie, and that's exactly what gamblers are.
Better off without her Mikey
Honesty is everything- As Thomas Jefferson once said, "Honesty is the first chapter in the book of Wisdom".
Did Matt and Gretchen date each other while/after they made this movie? I seem to remember him always pairing up with his costars before he married that waitress from Miami and settled down.
Nope thank god Gretchen didn't suffer Matt's coldness towards people he dated and dumped them on live TV.

@SAZ Sorry. I'm partially color-blind. :) And an artist. Bad combination.
Or addiction.
Im a boy im with Gretchen.
She is concerned because he is addicted.
What I would do to kiss Matt Damon 😭
I'd do twice that to kiss Gretchen.
Hardly ever see Matt do kissing scenes
Man is out there making a living, working towards his goals. She should have been more supportive of him.
He is an addict and thats why she is concerned.
There's a different clip I can't find but fuck it this is good enough. I was watching on Netflix but came here specifically to slander Jo.
please do say anything to gretchen mol pls
Spoiler he fucks up in court

What a crap... where did you see this bs? Some redpill crap channel around UA-cam? She is concerned because he is an addict.

Anybody here from Joe rogan podcast ?
Alltilt -one of the joey Diaz episodes, they discuss the pros & cons of being a lady friend to Weinstein
No
reminds me of my ex
Typical female. Nagging and never happy
She knew he was gonna fuck up again and get back into gambling. Can't really blame her.
