These video's always have me in awe! Keep up the great work.
Congrats & mazal tov! Heard on Will Stelter channel that you passed your JS certs! Well deserved. Thanks for posting this series. Incredibly beautiful work.
Thank you Robert!!
I just watched Will's video before this one. I was trying to decide if I was going to comment that. Glad someone beat me to it. Congratulations to you both.
@@danielstellmon5330 I am in the same boat
@@ThatWorks Congratulations man! It's a long time coming, and well deserved. We always knew you had it in you.
Very clean. It has an odd mixture look of antique weaponry and modern lines, and i think you nailed the middle line between the two. Some knives don't manage that kind of a move and end up looking, i wouldn't say tacky, but really screaming 'undecided'. I think that you, thinking a lot about what you wanted to achieve with this knife gave it that just right mix ratio. Nice work.
Thank you…I think :)
I'm definitely going to have to try my hand at making a frame handled knife now.
Yea I need to try again myself. I learned a lot from this one. I’d like to give it a go again soon!
That is stunning design. I've already read ahead so I know the outcome (congrats!) but I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your work.
Thank you on all accounts! I really meant to get all of these videos out before testing, but I figured I might as well keep telling the story linearly for those that didn’t read ahead and for future viewers.
The brass rivet shaping was a great idea! Nice work Matt
Neat little idea right?
@@ThatWorks Absolutely! Shows a great attention to detail!
Hey hey... Congrats Mastersmith Mr. Matt.!!!! You definitely deserve it. If i were you I would build myself a beautiful knife to ever remember this achievement.
Stay tuned ! :)
This is one crazy journey, man.
I see what you did there.
You are not wrong
That’s such a great handle design. Nice work!
Neat idea but I have a plan to make it even better
Thank you for sharing this with us. It's absolutely gorgeous.
Matt it was great to see the build. The set looked fantastic at Blade Show. Congrats again on the JS stamp!
Re-Binged MAA and then I decided to watch your entire library. So happy to see you guys going strong!
when hand sanding you can etch it in ferric cloried for about 5 seconds between grits to help see the scratches left behind. also alternating between spin to tip and edge to spine will allow you to know when you have the scratches out. better to clamp it to a board that will prevent you from accidental cutting of your hand if you want to do it this way. however using cutting fluid at low grits and Windex at high grit will allow your paper to last a bit longer.
That hand finish looked awesome, well done,, the knife is very nice !!!!
Now that is a handsome knife. I always appreciate good brass/copper/bronze work.
Thanks for sharing the process. I'm sure that you are just as glad as I am that the entire process is over.
This is incredible that river jig was a slick idea I don’t think I would have thought or that l. Very nice work and congrats we heard you got js
Very happy for you. Saw your sword at the last blade show. You are quite talented. I am excited to see what you will do when you make Master.
You should go win forged in fire ^^, I would love to hear Doug saying "your weapon sir... will keal!"
Congrats, Matt! Happy for ya!
Thank you so much! This is just the beginning !
Ilya smoking while he works xD God I love that dude.
That's an awesome knife.
You made a very beautiful knife with a unique construction method. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the compliment
Got to love how YT CONTINUES FAILING to notify me of new videos!!
I’m truly confused why this series is being shut down by YT.
Congratulations man!!! I really appreciate all of your content
That’s means a lot! Ty
Heck yeah man, I'm so inspired by this! Thanks for showing this footage
That's a damn good idea with the hand engraver
Good! make us another video then! lol.
@@RedBeardOps it’s the best! I want to do a full video breakdown on it
@@willardjames2685 I will
@@ThatWorks Man, that would be great. I just got high speed bur to try out... been working though Royer's takedown course. Can't wait to give it a go.
Your the man, man. This piece was a fantastic sweet blade.
Thanks dude! You are next!
Matt Stagmar passed his Journeyman test! Should have looked. I wasn’t the only one to hear lol.
Looks fantastic! Congrats, sir!
Thanks squirrl
Looks great mate! :D
Thanks brother! It was a fun build. Learned a lot
what a beautiful blade
Thank you Naga
highly detalied, and the shape and the filework on the edge of the frame increases the grip power so it won't slide.
this could be a videogame/fantasy movie build.
True! This was actually more work then most of our fantasy builds
@@ThatWorks
if I was a video game developer, I'd actually ask you to design some cool weapons or me.
your product is literally fantastic.
@@belalabusultan5911 we have done some and come close to doing more.
I like the handle of the blade. It's beautiful.
Thank you! I spent way too much time on the handle to be honest
Heard the good news from Will on his channel
Congrats on your JS certification Matt!
That little spoiler :) tbh it’s been a few weeks
That's a beautiful knife
Thanks my dude
Wow, Matt, what a beatiful piece
Thanks Coper!
@@ThatWorks Tahnk you for the video, man. It's so very inspiring watching your journey. Can't wait for more
Congrats Matt, thats a Beautifull knife, i would really like to see you or Ilya make a Falcata sword one day, not too many have been made on UA-cam and i plan on making one.
We should do that! We almost made one a couple of time
Beautiful knife! Greetings from Brazil.
Greetings my friend ! Thank you for the kind words
I can’t get over how terrifying the waterfall platen looks.
It seems that way but honestly it isn’t
Matt that knife is stunning beautiful work and congrats on getting your JS rating well deserved !! im new to blade smithing and hope to one day get my JS b4 i die LOL your a inspiration for sure thanks for sharing Mark 👍✌
If you have any questions while you are going through it, be sure to reach out!
thank you very much appreciate it @@ThatWorks
Very nice blade brother it looks amazing
Thank you! Very much!
Nice knife! If your teams looking for a challenging headache I suggest a fantasy build of the Bolt of Gransax from Elden Ring. The people sized version though the city block dragon version might take too long. Keep up all the good work the channels coming along nicely.
Thank you and I will take a look into the suggestion.
@@ThatWorks it’s probably a little too insane and absurd to do but damn if it doesn’t look cool.
The Magic Sword from Disney's The Black Cauldron. Complete with scabbard.
Beautiful knife - I love it! How did you get a domed rivet on both sides of your handle without wrecking the sanding finish?
Hard to explain through text but half are 3/4 the way through on one side and 1/4 on the other. Disturbed evenly and epoxied in place.
@@ThatWorks oooh, so the rivets aren't actually 1 piece and don't hold anything mechancially? (i.e. if you didn't have any epoxy, the rivets would fall out?)
Well done Matt!
Thank you! Hope there are a few things in there that will help people
@@ThatWorks matt does ilya smoke?
Que exelente trabajo, saludos desde Argentina....!!!
Mucho gracias Marcos!
Hi im just wanna say thank you for that channel
You are quite welcome
I love the handle especially the rope look in the frame of the handle now I have a challenge for y'all I would like to see y'all make the blade tha Wesley Snypes used in the beginning scene of Demolition Man
Keep up the good work ⚔️
I will do my best
@@ThatWorks that's all we can ever ask of ourselves 👍🏻
Nice blade and congrats on progressing on your forging technique. P.S. I laughed so hard when Ilya was casually smoking in the background while inspecting a blade, doesn't get more "slavic" than that :)))
OoOoOohhh this is gonna be sweeeet!!!
I like how it turned out for sure! Can’t wait to try it again soon!
Freaking AWESOMENESS!
:) you are too kind
Ilya's smoking, after all these years I've been watching you guys, this is the first time I know that Ilya is smoking, that's mind blowing. Btw, congrats for JS Matt, you are really good craftsman, can't wait for your masterpiece
I thought that too, wonder what brand he smokes
A beautiful knife which truly shows your progress in skill.
The filework and the protruding pins really work out together nicely and create that old-school look.
Only criticism I have is the angle in which the handle meets the blade.
In my mind a curved handle like this one shouldn't go higher than the spine of the blade.
But that's just my personal taste.
Just intended as constructive criticism, no disrespect🙂
Keep up the great work😉!
Lovely. You didnt show how the thread pops out of the handle for the nut. I am thinking of doing something similar only I dont see how to do it without compromising the frame. Do you have any shots of the internals before assembly? It would really help out.
Obra de arte.
Congratulations.
Thank you Tim! Means a lot!
In my experience, any time you think a mark will come out in the higher grits, it won't!
Great work! Heard you passed so congrats!
You are so so right
Oh man someone got a great deal on a sexy knife.
I think we will be doing more of this type of thing soon
Hi Matt, I'm curious are your knife edge wheels something of your own creation or something you can buy? I've seen you using them for a few years now, and thought it would be a real useful tool to have, but a quick search online hasn't turned any up for me.
Wow
Wooooow
Ever thought about sending the footage to someone and having them do the editing? It'd be a bit of extra work for the first few videos, doing revisions and getting on the same page about how you like things done, but It'd save you a lot of work and you get have more videos!
Also this is totally unrelated but I can edit videos.
I’ve thought a lot about it actually. Just need to take the first step and it will get easier
@@ThatWorks It can be really weird giving a job to someone else that you've had full control of so I can understand that. Either way I just wanna see more videos so it's partially a selfish suggestion, haha.
Beautiful looking knife. I'm a novice but I would have thought that a frame handle would make the handle heavier than the blade and thus upsetting the balance of the knife? I prefer a more blade heavy knife, although this blade looks pretty hefty too, so maybe it was a good balance in the end then?
you made beautiful bowie Matt
Thank you Vlad!!!
Beautiful work ! 😊 I love all stuff what was made on this channel! Q: Are kitchen knife made from titanium make any sense in everyday using or that be more decorative knife?. I know titanium is hard to work with, but titanium is my favorite metal and love to seeing new swords/knifes😊
Perhaps but I would bet no! I doubt they will ever hold an edge as well as steel and would be a true pain the resharpen
@@ThatWorks Thank you for answer! 🙌
Guys, you should make the swords from Bastard 😊
At that price, I'm sure the knife was gone instantaneously.
Pretty fast!
@@ThatWorks I heard the guy that snagged it is a real PITA. Typical. lol >_>
How much was it?

@@sashapopovic3320 Jesus willy fuck. Some lucky bastard
Hey guys, can you forge Elden Ring's Grafted Blade Greatsword? i think it would look so sickening, but it's probably really hard to forge
Im addict to these videos.
I have a cuestion: ¿it is posible to forge the weapon form of Spirit, the father of Maka on Soul Eater? Or more exacty ¿it is posible to use it with out break it at the first cut?
I would have to research that more
@@ThatWorks I think it would be one of the most dificults works cause is basically two sticks of metal super skinny making a cross holding a huge and most likely super heavy blade
I would like to know if any of the judges commented on you going above and beyond the JS test standards on your knives.
We will get to that part of the story soon!
You should sell little 3 x 3 metal plates of your practice engravings to help you get better and give some people a chance to buy your work.
Yeesh! I don’t think that I would ever want those practice pieces to see the light of day
Got a question. What do you think of W2? I have a bunch of it. I've never worked with it before.
It’s great! We use it for integrals and engraving chisels
@@ThatWorks o ok. But not knifes? And I've seen a few different ways to heat treat it. What do you guys recommend?
@@ThatWorks I'm sorry I mis read that. I didn't see integrals.
It's not to brittle is it? And you wouldn't happen to know the HRC on it usually would you?
@@travismorris8591 oh it’s 1% carbon or close to it. It gets as hard as you want it to
Beautiful at a price I could have afforded 😅
It didn’t last long. Perhaps I will do some more affordable items soon!
I think John Wayne himself would approve. Well done
Well thank you partner !
Oh, no need to excuse the short hiatus. We understand that you are master craftsmen first and youtubers second.
You’d be surprised how many don’t understand that
Sword of Aeons: Fable the Lost Chapters
I’ve actually seen a fair amount of requests fornthis
Might be an ignorant question, but how come it’s all weapons and armor for ABS testing, creation, prep etc. Is it for UA-cam algorithm or expression or tradition? Just curious thanks
can you rephrase that question?
@@ThatWorks I suppose this is two questions.
1. Is Blacksmithing and ABS (within the scope of your channel) a part of a larger whole? For example IT (Information Technology) isn’t just tech support turn it off then on; it’s Cyber Security, Computer Sceince, Software Development, Hardware development, Networking, etc. and each of those have their own sub sets and niches.
Where does your channel ABS and Blacksmithing fall into?
2. Adding on from the above, is this due to your own passions?, The algorithm?, specific Testing from the ABS? Like for journeyman could you have made a clock that needs to keeps a certain amount of time or Damascus Ray Bans, Statues etc?
Hope this came out a bit better, again I apologize if this sounds ignorant or dumb.
Much appreciated
