You ever hear a song for the first time, and it hits especially hard because it perfectly meshes with the mood you're in?
When I was young, like really young, I could swim a mile in under 20 minutes. That's not world class or anything, but its pretty good. 15 years of working a desk job later, and generally living a sedentary life, I can't do that anymore. But a few months ago I started hitting the gym again. Overall its been great, getting back in shape. And in the pool in particular, I've been working myself back to being able to swim a mile *at all* again. Swimming a quarter mile. Then swimming a half mile with a rest at the quarter mile point. Then swimming a mile with a rest every quarter mile. Then a mile with a rest at the half mile. And then last night I finally did an entire mile without stopping. Time was a hair over 40 minutes, but still... I swam for a mile without stopping again. Then on the way home, while I'm feeling proud for reaching that milestone, and feeling that post-workout endorphin rush, this song comes on. Perfect.
When I started my goal was just to get back to being able swim a mile. I never thought I'd be able to do it as fast as when I was young. But now... I have confidence I can get there. Maybe even get better.
