Razor Carbon Lux vs Razor A5 Lux

- Comparison of two Razor adult kick scooters: Razor A5 Lux and Razor Carbon Lux.
NOTES...
Common to both:
- 220 lbs maximum rider weight.
- Kickstand.
- 200mm wheel size.
- 18 inch handlebars/T-bars (2015 models).
- Top speed: 14 mph recorded by public radar speed sign on flat asphalt road with slight headwind.
Razor A5 Lux:
- All aluminum, 8.5 lbs total weight.
- Lower deck with same handlebar height - easier for taller riders, easier (more efficient) to kick.
- Foldable, easier to carry in crowded areas but the folding mechanism does rattle. It is noisier that the solid Carbon Lux for obvious reasons.
- Easier to disassemble and reassemble rear wheel.
- Lighter and feels faster on flatland. Easier to bunny hop (jump e.g. over large cracks and bumps).
- Plastic cover over the folding mechanism is known to crack, probably a design or manufacturing defect, but not critical to performance. Here are 4 other UA-cam videos that show the the cracked plastic cover on the left side of the Razor A5 Lux:

Razor Carbon Lux:
- Carbon steel frame, aluminum handlebars and T-tube. Heavier then the A5 by about 2-3 pounds (around 11.5 lbs), more difficult to bunny hop.
- Wider polypropylene deck - very nice shape and size. Polypropylene is used by Cold Steel to make practice weapons and also used to make knife handles - strong, flexible, and reasonably light. I just wish the deck was closer to the ground like the A5.
- Doesn't fold but provides a great solid ride - much less rattle, more dialed in. Still very compact once the handlebars are retracted - easily fit 2 or even 3 in a standard car's trunk.
- Trickier to reassemble the rear wheel because tolerances are tighter.
You know you're getting old when you start watching a youtube review of scooters 😂
The carbon lux also has a slightly beefier frame along with tuff as steel welding. Razor made the carbon lux to outlast other scooters of all brands. Simple and tough. It also provides a stealth quiet ride. Add high speed bones reds bearings and you got a top winning scooter.
Wait it had different barrens!?! How much better are they?
Thanks! This is a good review for those of us weighing options between A5 and Carbon Scoots.
Very informative. I was right about to purchase the carbon, but I didn't realize the deck on it was that much higher than the A5. I could see from the shadows in the video that it sits almost twice as high as the A5. Also didn't know the carbon is NOT foldable. These two are deal breakers for me. Thanks for the detailed descriptions!
You’re voice would be wonderful for a haunted house movie. Sort of Boris Karloff-ish.
Great review, and you covered all the salient points. Nevermind the haters, I personally enjoyed the deliberate pace. Picked up a brand new Carbon Lux at Walmart for $30 and enjoyed the point-by-point comparison. Thanks for taking the time to post this video. (Y)
Wow they're not even on sale at this price now lol.

Its not slow talking. Its asmr talking.
carbon also has a double clamp
Wow that's actually a good point
good info. appreciate the text feature breakdown.
I have the Vokul Kick Scooter is awesome The A5 is ok still love it though.
"The A5 is foldable while the Carbon Lux is not" - that sentence took over 10 seconds for you to say. (@ 3:00 ) Thanks for the review, just turn the speed up on the commentary a bit, probably could have reduced a 6:30 vid to about 45 seconds.
+Nick S How about you adjust the speed of the video like I did
Why are you making fun of how someone talks? If you don't like it go to another video.
Great review.
Were those scooters new? If not, how are they so clean? My A5 Lux looks completely dirty, especially the deck (it's almost black), after just a week of usage.
They were a few months old but almost 3 years later they still look the same.
+whatevervlog Damn, how did you manage that? oO Do you clean the deck or something?
My a5 also cracked on the left, which is how I came across this video. I wanted to know if it was still safe to ride.
Is this scooter good for a 5'6 person
Are either of these scooters appropriate for kids? 7 & 9 yrs old...
Hey man have you tried the A5 Air?
It is a shame that the Carbon Lux has a high deck. It could have been their best model, but it is far too high.
I own this scooter! the Razor A5! if you have any questions i can help you
How smooth is it on the road/asphalt? I want to get a scooter that I can ride around on the street in the country but normal scooters it is too bumpy. Is this scooter pretty smooth riding?
Nicole Becker
i live in NewYork city by the way and this scooter is best for pavement streets. over bumps i can ride it fine due to the big wheels on it. Ive had different scooters in the past and this is the best one when it comes to ridding. it very smooth! and you should look up videos of people ridding it.
is this scooter good for jumping off and onto curbs?
the Razor A5 is good for jumping :) i can do tricks on it
Really? tailwhips and everything? I thought since it seemed more like a commuter scooter it might not be able to handle that sort of stuff!
Holy crap, does this guy talk slowly!!
