In this session of the 2015 IndianRaga Fellows, three young artists give a fresh Carnatic vocal rendition of the Sindhubhairavi Thillana, accompanied by various instruments.
To see more young talent, subscribe to IndianRaga here: / indianragaproject
The vocal artists are Sahana Prasanna and the Sai sisters (Kiran and Nivi). The accompanying artists include Priyanka Chary on veena, Sumhith Aradhyula on flute, Sashank Sridhar on piano, and Santhosh Ravi on mridangam.
This piece is a thillana, a Carnatic medley between vocal and percussion elements, usually performed with a quick tempo and with gusto.
The title of this thillana is "Tom ta taara" in ragam Sindhubhairavi, set to thalam Deshaadi, and composed by T.K. Govinda Rao. The charanam is in Tamil, and is a tribute to Lord Krishna's dance.

Madar Pirai Kanni Yanai is one of the composition from Thevaram recited by Appar, a Nayanmar. Appar, who was aged 80 while on his way to Kailash to meet Shiva met a sadhu who was Shiva . Shiva tried to stop Appar from going to Kailash but Appar said he would die on the spot or he'll have the Darshan of Shiva. Somehow Shiva convinced Appar to take a dip in a nearby pond and rest and continue. Appar took a dip and lo! He found himself in Thiruvaiyyaru. Appar then understood ,the presence of the Lord is everywhere , Even in animals and all the creatures . In this time Appar wrote the song 'Madar Pirai Kanni Yaanai' . The composition is set in Ragam Navroj and Adi talam. I present this on account to celebrate World Music Day .
I'm very proud to be an Indian as it is a source of carnatic music. Love the voice of girls which gives refreshment and fulfillment of the life. Salute to the team.

Though the clarity of lyrics is desirable, settled in western atmosphere they sang beatifully. Their pronounciation of Tamizh even better than that pf natives whose pronounciations are horrible. Welldone girls.
