Dutch must be the best written antagonist ive EVER seen
bro is litrally HIM like charasmatic sigma cold , the way he calmly and poetly put his words is genius , but becames a villain is not a good but sad
Dutchs character in rdr 2 makes me wish he was never an antagonist in rdr 1
To be honest I know that Dutch was the bad guy in red dead 1 but I believe the biggest antagonist was Edger Rose.
Yeah your right I just hate to call him the villain sometimes because at the beginning he doesn’t seem like it.
@@exodus3504how? He only is in 4 missions and Ross kills John and is the reason we’re going after Dutch in the first place
When Hosea died he was broken, when Arthur died he was gone
Dutch is such a complex character. You wanna hate him but you can’t
Also sad fact, if you shoot micah during the talking dialogue in American venom, Dutch shoots you cause he gets shocked and he clearly regrets it and sounds heartbroken and says "oh... Son." showing he does indeed truly think of John and Arthur as his sons and loves them even after all that.
@@sirmcsir2080 He was lost after Hosea’s death, he really did give the gang everything he had. But in the end, he chose himself. He couldn’t fight his nature.
its very easy, hes a charismatic pseudointellectual who has no ability to lead, hosea was his anchor
I remember playing RDR1 ages ago and felt like Dutch was such a savage prick
When you play RDR2, man you understand what made him insane
Towards the end of rdr2 he becomes lapsed, not insane. He was arguably more insane when he was an idealist at the start of rdr2. In rdr 1 he's completely uncaring and ideologically beaten
@@hevnervals Partly incorrect.
The reason people conflict on putting a line on where Dutch went crazy insane whatsoever is because it did NOT start from RDR2.
If there won't be a prequel, the only sensical canon prequel is that:
-The rat mentioned from Arthur to Tilly dies
This means Dutch was prepared to a rat back then. He still had sense but foreshadowing of him becoming crazy at the start of RDR2.
- Dutch kills colm's brother, colm kills annabelle
Now, compare this to the first event. This means Dutch wanted to appreciate what he had, spent more time to those he had less with.
When Micah entered, Dutch fell for his charisma just like some members fell for Dutch's. He hadn't went fully trusting on Micah. It's first ACT(not sign) of going crazy was in Blackwater. Proof is that Dutch is suspected by John before it. How? By Annabelle's death effecting Dutch. You saw how Hosea's death turned Dutch into. Dutch hadn't got Micah that let him go crazy after that. In fact, Dutch was partially still good after Hosea's death until Micah manipulated him again.
So what are these orders?
-rat death
Dutch questions loyalty
-annabelle death
-dutch makes a decision, question loyalty or just try to appreciate before losing
-appreciate
Dutch's weakness was trust. No, not refusing Milton. That was also a lie and unrealstic. Considering Sean died, they had their guard on afterwards.
Also, I think Dutch's option was kind of worth it. You see, Dutch only went Miller because he wanted to understand things. It took time. It made him insane. But in the end, he did.
Dutch wasn't an evil man in the classic sense. His beliefs and ideals were too opposed to the new world in the making, and his ideals drove him more than money. His narcissism and authoritarian desire for control over his followers are genuine issues that shouldn't be overlooked however, but then again was it moreso desperation that broke down the moral and ethical barriers than his fantasies of power and control.
Such a great take on the character. It bothers me when fans sympathize so much with Dutch. Many times they look past his blatant flaws. Like saying that Arthur’s death really affected him. Honestly, I do not think it did as much as we believe. It was just another blow that knocked him further off the edge.
Shit I just realized he was suffering more than anyone else after arthur death 😕
@@gustavfrrisdahl9424 watching the consequence of all his mistakes and bad decisions effect those he loved the most and not being able to stop himself
Hosea too
Also before anyone says "john went to avenge arthur" dutch was litearly there even before john, john was waiting for time but dutch didn't even wait it to find micah
@@KeyUploads dutch did it for himself, he couldn't take the fact that he was fooled so he shot micah
“Our time has passed John”
Couldn’t have said it any better Dutch.
Great editing. Now Dutch is regretting everything what he did , he’s been warned by Hosea and Arthur
I've always believed Dutch was a man who saw injustice around him and truly believed he could make a difference, but he went about it through his romantic revolutionary ideals of chaos = change = freedom. I don't think he started out as a bad man, but somewhere along the way (perhaps after/during the Blackwater heist perhaps earlier) he lost sight of his real goals. He was no longer trying to make a serious change in the core of a burgeoning civilization; he couldn't. Yet to stop himself and admit he had failed (or in fact, never even tried to succeed) was so antithetical to his sense of identity that he would rather throw the lives of others away than face the truth. Arthur, Hosea, and John (especially John, it would seem - as he often calls out/questions Dutch in RDR2) all understood that their actions were nothing more than banditry. They had no trouble admitting it because they never thought of themselves as freedom-fighting, revolutionary, romantic heroes in the face of corrupt and oppressive American development. They might have helped people on occasion, but on some level, they all knew they were heading towards an unavoidable collapse. For Dutch however, the end was always death. As soon as he drifted from the confines of law & order, as soon as he began to act violently against the ever-tightening noose of civilization, he was only just delaying what would never stop coming. He had to fight, it was his nature, but he only became that way because he never knew how to achieve his goals without violence. He could never huff it in that world as a politician, no matter how well-spoken he was, nor could he make it as a business tycoon despite his talent for scheming. He was destined to be a killer the moment he realized that all his kicking of the modern world would only end up scuffing his boots.
“When I’m gone. They’ll just find another monster.”
Real. **Our time as passed, John.**
Poor Dutch. He didn’t deserve that.. and the little “I..” during Arthur’s death made it worse 😔
No cellphones, no internet, just morals, violence, and straight nature. Wish we were back in these days
If only dutch listened. Very nice btw
Got chills from this, a rare gem among the other RDR edits. Simple yet striking.
I appreciate that a lot. It makes me real happy when people enjoy my edits. Thank you.
Dutches last words being our time is at an end he was right its what Arthur kept saying and its like with Dutch dead he probably knew John would be the final target
It's crazy that despite his madness Dutch was right about "they'll just find another monster" that monster being John.
What wouldn’t i do to play with version of Dutch ( after the fall of the gang )
What an amazing antagonist
The best character ever
I played rdr2 before rdr1 and i genuinely feel very sad foe Dutch. After Hosea's death something in him snapped and he became crazy. In rdr1 he was sad.
Really well made video! Its crazy how complex and twisted dutch is as a character.
If this game was a tv show it would sweep all the awards that tv shows get.
Some of the best games ever
This is a atmospheric aff I luv it. Shi got me goosebumps nostalgic af :((
Red dead redemption 2 is the best sequel to anything ever. Better than the New Testament even
*PREQUEL
Sequel is when a game starts where its predecessors has ended like most story-based videogames (with many exceptions)
Prequel is when a game ENDS at the START of its predecessor such as RDR2
@@Runha240 saying “the best video game prequel” was too narrow and “best video game follow up” didn’t have the same ring to it
Dutch seems so lost
I played RDR2 without most of the context of the first game so to see Dutch's fall was very heartbreaking and makes him one of my favorite antagonists of all time
I firmly believe, something happened that changed Dutch before the events of RDR2. My opinion, I think Dutch started to have a decline after the death of his dear Annabelle. I also think the death of Colm O'Driscol's brother didn't make Dutch feel any better and only made Dutch more ruthless and cold. Then you add the mayhem of the Blackwater ferry job, the death's of Jenny, Mac, and Davey, The mayhem of the Braithwaite/Gray feud, the kidnapping of Jack, The trolley heist, the head injury, the murder of Angelo Bronte, the death's of Hosea and Lenny, the mayhem of Guarma, and also Losing the scores from Blackwater, Rhodes and Saint Denis probably weighted on Dutch as well and all of those factor's turned Dutch into the monster he became.
The edit is perfect! The song really fits Dutch Vanderlind
"You sound like Hosea."
Arthur brought up a good point before Dutch immediately sidesteps it and tries to tug at Arthur's emotions. He didn't listen to Hosea even when it was clear he wasn't doing well, he's sure as hell not gonna listen to Arthur now.
I don't think that was the point. He's broken and completely deluded at this point. He misses Hosea because Hosea was like his guide in a way.
Hosea was the one that pushed Dutch to do the Saint Denis bank job, even tho he was wildly unsure. Dutch fell into madness fasho but everything wasn't his fault
I gave you all I had. That line breaks me so bad man. Great edit
Hey everyone, thanks for watching the video. Please check out my channel, I could really use the support, thanks!
their friendship was already strained, Arthur was talking bad about him behind his back and Dutch already chose his way and pick Micah over him
I'm just happy I didn't finish on low honor... seeing him miserable like the clip was really sad
from both case I just learned one lesson and it is always choose life
"i gave you all i had"
I have a headcannon where after the Epilogues of RDR2, Dutch would occasionally have a vivid hallucination whenever he camps at night of Hosea and Arthur sitting on the log with Dutch. Dutch would try to talk to them, but they just simply stare instead of responding. Not angrily but in utter disappointment.
then how would dutch have redemption at the end of rdr1? he would neber believe he was good at all. he wouldn't use "i can't fight my own nature".
"All them years Dutch, for this snake?"
One of my favorite video games character, a "magnificent" downfall and what a development
“When I’m gone, they’ll just find another monster. They have to, because they have to justify their wages.”
No matter how crazy Dutch got between the two games or how twisted/aimless his goals, the man always had a strong grip of the world he lived in. He was always cognizant that world he knew was changing and yet he never could; he could never give into the change around him. By RDR1, Dutch Van der Linde knew he was a relic. Unable to accept that, he goes by his own hand, rather than that of the change. One final middle finger to a world he’d come to loath.
The downfall of Dutch is it’s own tragedy
Arthur had Dutch's back.
Dutch only ever cared for himself.
He watched the destruction of the gang and is the sole responsible for it. He allowed Micah. He kept doubling down on his absolute insane plans.
Damn these scenes in the woods are awesome! this is an amazing work!
Banger
Makes sense ; the title of the song and Dutch.
Dutch was Dutch's biggest victim
This is fantastic, thanks
This is beutifull
Idk if anyone caught it but Dutch is a character who was basically going through an existential crisis. Who knows since when but its clear that its an inherent part of him, which means he must’ve become aware of that in his 20’s or 30’s. Mix that with his ego and constant need to prove himself superior to people like Bronte, Milton, and Cornwall, etc… Dutch wasnt a gang leader, he was a borderline cult leader he was sickened by the world around him especially with how it was industrializing and becoming a land of laws. This leaves Dutch with 2 options, use his awareness of the world to create the reality he wants through diplomacy and i guess “legally” OR through the use of force as a defiant message to the government. Dutch chose to use force and find other destitutes like him who are basically “dumber,” they’re not dumb however, they’re simply lost and misguided as Milton said, Dutch is aware that there is no north star, so he becomes that for people who cant understand why the world is the way it is. So he teaches them how he would like the world to be, through compassion, respect, and his famed charisma. I think Dutch felt trapped in the world, especially the rapidly industrialized world, i think he felt and KNEW that he was just another poor sucker stuck on this rock, on this continent that happens to be the blooming United States of America. All these things amalgamate into Dutch the leader and idealist, and Dutch the ruthless outlaw. I think a part of Dutch wants to be good and prosperous, but like Arthur he is battling with a giant he cant seem to win against, the evil inside that was born upon his discovery of the world/universe. He’s got a whole lot of other things going on but yea.
If only Dutch was listened to Hosea and Arthur, Van Der Linde gang would not be fall apart, especially when Arthur against Dutch plan for blowed up the Bridge
good job brother it was a real nice😔😔
“I miss… h..him.” I WANT TO DIE
Clean edit 🖤☕️
our time has passed
At some point, Dutch's lies were so effective he fooled himself.
When the gang started to fall apart, he was forced to accept the reality of who he was and the futility of what he was doing. When Arthur died, the full weight of what he had and had lost drove him insane.
"there's your deal, dutch"
"MILTON WAS DOING HIS JOB 🤓🤓"
🥀
"When I'm gone, they'll just find 'another' monster."
Even Dutch could recognize himself for what he was. But he can't give up, either.
ouguhhh so gooood
real
RDR3 = Dutch between 1899 and 1907
I always wanted that. But I think it should be a red dead revolver spin off instead.
RDR3 - start as micah's backstory (it's actually tragic look it up), after his death play as dutch until dutch''s death too.
Tout ce qu’il a vécu l’a rendu à moitié fou 😔
Red dead depression
Rdr3 should be the Dutch and Hosea story
Rdr3 should be a younger Dutch van der linde as the Protagonist😮
Dutch pisses me off at the end of chapter 6
But take a look at what he has on his shoulders
All the gangs members & the gang itself death is on him
He lost his 2 sons in Arthur & John he basically let them both for dead multiple times & left Arthur in his final moments to die alone then partners up with micha years later
It was never confirmed that dutch and micah ever made contact with each other before they saw each other on the mountain, when john asked dutch what he was doing there he said "same as you,i suppose" from the way Dutch was talking it sounded like he was there to kill micah too considering what he said to john
Arthur died at the top of the mountain and Dutch died at the bottom
💔
Dutch is just a slightly more slick cult leader promising paradise while really his members just die. It's all Micah's fault though. Seemed everything was okay until him and Blackwater.
Why does Dutch in the thumbnail look like an alchoholic Omni-Man
What song is this
got me crying lika bitch...
Honestly the fall of Dutch is inevitable the moment he listen Micah more than Hosea and Arthur. Micah is a rat and rat will do what rats do and putting him in group gang that work best as family with trust, but Dutch should know m that. Honestly I agree Dutch is smart and capable but mentally he is the weakest in the group unfortunately
he gave you all he had but you still sided with the rat
