    QUICK NOTE: I mentioned the one hand rule for all those new to electricity, or, those unsure about what part of this coil may be safe to touch. Ironically, I used two hands right away. I did this only for cinematic effect - I do not recommend using two hands, ever, unless you are very familiar with your device (like I was). One hand rule at all times, I just did it for effect!

      Talking bout your Ebook. The matter we don't see is space it self. Dig into superfluid you'll understand what I mean.
      How you could possibly know you'd be in a soup of superfluid if you were in it? It act like a vaccuum yet it's not. Starting to connect the dots yet?
      The speed of light is constant as long as it travel through a constant matter.

    Wow that's beautiful! You are a master with acrylic. You've definitely gotten me hooked on brass hardware. Can't wait to try this build. I still have some of those capacitors from the 3 volt Tesla coil project. Thanks for making this video Jay.

    • @PlasmaChannel
      @PlasmaChannel  3 роки тому +8

      Hey Nigel, you're quickly becoming my most reliable commenter! Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed the video. Acrylic can really be a pain to work with sometimes. Even when you're gluing the edges, they can experience "crazing", which is chemically induced cracking. I got lucky and didnt have much of it. You can use the capacitors from the 3 volt coil, however, you'll need many more of them in parallel since the caps from that build are lower capacitance. Try to find the 10nf (0.01uF), 3kv polyproylene caps on mouser. Also, I had occasional sparking between the primary and secondary coil when using it on medium or high power. To solve this, wrap thick plastic between the two coils (try not to scratch the secondary windings when doing so).
      Cheers!

    I have already begun a design of my smallest Tesla coil I've ever built, I believe Jay has see it, it will be an audio modulated version of this coil here except about 1/4 of the size. It will use an external driver for high power usage but with an integrated driver (Full Bridge for the external and Integrated drivers) that's in the base similar to his. I absolutely love the quality and effort put in to not only your high voltage work to make it amazing in appearance but also the quality of your videos!

    I really love the look of this! As to acrylic cracking, I've done a lot of work with acrylic when building my pink and clear guitar, and from that, if you use a stepper drill bit, it will have a much nicer hole, and it won't be so prone to cracking :D (Best to still have a very small pilot, but for bigger holes, it's very nice to have (the drill bit)

      @PlasmaChannel  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks M.S. Yeah, I was really pleased with the result. I took my time calculating the resonant frequencies prior to building, and I think it paid off. I wish I designed the secondary/primary spacing a bit more safely though - I occasionally get sparks between the two coils.

      @@PlasmaChannel I got to thinking about it the spark gap could be slightly improved with one sharp electrode to reduce breakdown voltage and increase efficiency (i.e. box razor, piece of hacksaw blade.) I would also try to reduce primary inductance a bit and make up for resonance with the cap bank. Nonetheless this is one of the most quality homebrew sets I have ever seen.

    Love your grounding. The same concepts can be applied to receive remote power. It's the basis that Tesla was working with when he wanted to charge things remotely. Wide plate for grounding and an antenna on the other end. As a charge seeks to establish equilibrium on the larger plate there is going to be a little back and forth with the coil and remote electric source.

    • @PlasmaChannel

    Great video Jay ! That project looks super. I would put that on my shelf even if it did not work. Just looks cool. When you were holding by one hand I thought, oh, don't drop it then the ending picture... That would be me after finishing something... : )

      Haha, thanks Ramius! Glad you enjoyed the build. It took me a long time honestly. I've already rebuilt it, and made it better. Yeah...I almost dropped it on that shot where I held it up haha.

    Wicked Jay, absolutely a masterpiece there that you built out of Acrylic; amazing to see the inner workings of that work of art, it is, or should I say was an outstanding piece, very decorative. Shame it succumbed to the forces of Sir Isaac Newton after all the hard work. I hope you can fix it up. Nice elusion to a Nickleback concert. Anyway, thanks for again taking an enormous amount of your time and effort producing this video. Plasma is the future in the grand scheme of things; a shame Tesla knew a bit too much. Keep safe mate. Question: Does the plasma formed within a nearby bulb emit pulsed light based on the LC resonance of the primary and secondary? I guess it depends on the lifetime of the excited ions versus the resonance frequency? But what about high frequency tesla coils (hfsstc) in the kHz-MHz resonance range?

    friend thank you very much for uploading this video, but I have a question, what happens if you connect the capacitor in parallel to the flyback and the spark gap in series?

    • @monomonisete6549

      And of course, which is the best, because i made one Tesla coil and my theacher told me that's better the capacitor in parallel

    Hi Jay, I too have been greatly interested and fascinated by high voltage and making various high voltage projects since I was 8 years old when I built my first tesla coil. Now I am 58 years old and still very interested in high voltage and all the different ways of producing it. Although most of my time is spent building high energy lasers, I still like to dabble with high voltage and I have a question for you. Do you know of or have played with those small cylindrical black high voltage producing modules. I think they are being sold all over Ebay under the titles of stun gun modules. They are fairly small measuring about 3 inches long and about 1 inch in diameter and they will operate with as little as 1.5 -3 volts D.C. and will put out a fairly hot high current pulsating voltage around 25kv-40kv. They are claimed to be able to output absolutely ridiculous voltages of over 400,000-to over 1,000,000 volts which of course is complete bull. My question is do you think that these modules can be used as a primary source of high voltage for a small table top tesla coil. They cost only a few dollars each and would be a very cheap and easy source of high voltage. Please let me know what you think about these stun gun modules or more than likely you have already played with them and I would be very interested to know how they Perform in tesla coils because I was thinking about making a small table top coil. Many years ago I built a tesla coil that stood 8 feet tall and threw 12 foot streamers out into thin air. We couldn"t operate it indoors because the high voltage was arcing to all the a.c receptacles as well as all the copper water lines so we had to run it outdoors in our back yard in the middle of our garden far away from anything it could arc too. It was quite the site and when I operated it, most people from the neighbourhood came to watch the show but it produced an enormous amount of radio noise. I really enjoy a channel like yours, it is very educational and really sparks the interest of young kids and adults into science and physics. I only wish it was around when I was growing up because there was nothing like this including no internet and no computers. I really hope your channel keeps expanding. Peter.

    How do you tune the primary and secondary coils? Do they need to be very precise numbers of turns?

  • @soulrobotics
    @soulrobotics 3 роки тому

    another thing. the oscillation is made by the feedback coil. then the 3055 saturate and become conductive to ground the primary coil. I think that the circuit can be change not using the feedback coil at all,... or perhaps in a more complex project can be used as a zero crossing sensor. Once you have a variable oscillator you can experiment the coil behavior,... which would be interesting.
    Once you have some awesome freqs, you can modulate the amplitude with an amplifier, or perhaps a pwm to make a FM device... yes you can put some sound on the coil.
    I want to thank you for this channel which is an inspiration.
