- This is a portion of the song "CAFO" off of the Animals As Leaders self titled debut (prosthetic records) I'm in standard tuning on a 7 string with the low E string dropped to D. Not as hard as it looks but definitely fun! Give it a shot!

It aligns the intervals so that my octaves are directly on top of each other. This allows me to tap a root,fifth,octave in one fret as opposed to the 3 fret span i'd have to reach in standard tuning. I don't always tune like this though. 90% the album material is in standard.
Just get like an 8 string or something jeez

I noticed this logic when I first learned to play it. I fought with it in standard tuning and noticed how much harder it was. De-tuned that string and BAM. Easy-peasy-lemon-avocado…wait…that’s not right…
so this is how reflux were what they were.

I did it slowed down like 20 times. Then i tried it at the right speed. Fuck my life.
the nervous system needs about 300 repetitions to execute a motion flawlessly, 20 isn't even close :P keep practicing
fjosip1 Interesting, but i was talking about the fact that i practiced it at a speed 20 times slower then the right speed. Sorry for the confusion. I don't know how to formulate that properly. haha

oh ok. just to encourage you I sometimes practice licks at 4x slower speed, especially if it's a new technique that I'm not familiar with. Practice will get you there it's just a matter of time/ dedication :)
I like how in the description he's like it looks harder than it is but its really fun. Then he explains and it and your just like yeah everything easier than it seems when your a god

i listen to his album everyday and my favourite song is On Impulse
right. i think he has a combination of a noise gate and a compressor dialed in on his POD. that's what i use to play this stuff, works great, even for the clean tones.

@walkkdatshibby actually this is the ascending portion. i know the difference between ascending riffs and descending riffs.
he also says that at the end of the vid.

What would also work in this composition would be a string damper. Just put a hair tie around the first fret to damp all open strings. In this case You can even move the hair tie to the 4th fret for better damping.

You can play most of AAL with a 7 string. But yeah you need the whole range so just find a cheap one like a Dean and upgrade the pickups with Blackout 7's or EMG's.
yeah, im working on tapping it still. im giving it another shot. but im playing a 6 string, low e tuned to b, so its awkward..

lol at the end he plays it differently than he explained it. In the explanation the A string got 4 notes and the D string got 5, when he plays it slowly altogether at the end he plays 5 notes on the A string and 4 notes on the D string. It's tough to tell which way it is when he plays it fast, although I think it's 5 on the A and 4 on the D.
If you ever see him play when he's wearing his undershirt on stage, you will notice that he is actually pretty ripped.

the one that's posted isnt mine. i havnt done a full tab of cafo, but i spent a lot of time slow-motioning this video to figure out exactly what's being played, and have a pretty acurate tab of just the ascending (obviously) and descending riff. fun stuff.
He's always said he played 7's for years before switching over to an 8 so maybe that's a good place to start. At least as far playing extended range guitars. But since there's plenty of 8 string material out there to learn it wouldn't be hard to pick it up and start playing.
