Food items are usually expensive along motorway stopovers.
From big cattle markets in Punjab Buffalos ,cows and goats transported all over Pakistan

buffalo milk is very popular in Indian subcontinent. Those which you saw on Motorway were taken for culling.

On Motorway stops they charge double
Mostly buffalos and cows are transported from Punjab villages to bigger cities like Islamabad and Karachi for meat purpose

These highway stops are indeed highway robbers, probably because their overheads are much higher . Still , it's always advisable to carry some food and drink along .
