Love the nitpicky back-and-forth in the comments over whether or not Krav Maga is a "martial art." Every fighting technique, from basic hand-to-hand combat to the application of advanced weaponry to strike at an enemy is technically a martial art, in that it is a methodology applicable to the waging of war/conflict. Sun Tzu didn't title his definitive work "The Activity of War". The argument that Krav Maga isn't a martial art is based on the fundamental misunderstanding of the word "art" in this application. It comes from folks who are so focused on the wrong definition of that word (it has more than one, you know), and who are so obsessed with things like styles, belts, etc., that they've almost completely forgotten the operative word in the phrase - "martial."

There really isn't an effective defense against a well trained individual in Krav M. It's designed so that even defensive actions are Naturally transformed into an offensive attack. Awesome Art.
I've fought a guy who used palm stikes yea he hit me a lot but it didnt hurt my fist on the other hand crushed his nose broke his jaw and fractured his cheekbone. I'm not worried about how my hands are gonna feel tomorrow. Proper punching technique will prevent you from hurting your wrists. If you have to bust a knuckle to one and done a mf to keep him from hurting you or anyone else I say its worth it
I agree, I'm skeptical about open hands in general. Every good martial art (including boxing) teaches to always keep fists closed the whole fight, to become instinctual and always ready if an opening for a punch opens up. 1. Fingers are EXTREMELY easy to catch/snag/break. 2. Learning how to align punches right is monumentally necessary to keep from easily spraining wrists if you ever DO use a fist. 3. Yes, a palm cushions the blow. Open hand muscle memory/training kinda comes off as a recipe for disaster and getting used to bad habits
Women really shouldn't fight closed fisted. Unless we are trained well, we do more than scuff our knuckles. We break entire hands. For 20 years, I was fighting almost daily. Mostly with men. I've done some damage and have never used a closed fist. I used a lot of elbows and knees though. Lol
The orthodox boxing stance with the back foot at an angle seems a lot better than all 10 toes facing forward for power, balance, and movement. Just my opinion. I do like the idea of using open hands for self defense to avoid injury.
@@daprimedabg4539 yeah unless you haven't trained to kick, then you can screw yourself with kicks I mean to slow you can get grabbed then knee broken, leg kicked out from under, opened up for strikes. To sum up if not experienced kicks suck

Bruce Lee once said that he isn't afraid of a person knowing and practicing many strikes many times, but of the person who practices one strike a hundred times or more. I have been in the entertainment industry for many years (30 years) and I have seen a lot of bar fights and street fights. The only thing that works all the time is speed, accuracy of strike and the power to knock someone to the ground. In grappling fights short but hard hits are best along with akido style grips and moves. In a bar fight one has just a few seconds to act and bar fights are way more messy than street fights. Bar fights people bust bottles, throw glasses and bar stools. Bar fights also are where the on lookers join in to fight. The brawl is insane multiple fighters entering the fight at different times and from different angles, plus the dim to bright lights cast shadows. Bouncers in Bars are typically great fighters and their job is to end a fight. When I ask the bouncers about their style of fighting they typically say mixed martial art. The baddest bouncer I ever had was a guy named Vance. He was ugly, about 6 feet tall, completely bald, athletic body type and very agile. He would be lightning fast and loved to smile at the opponent before he broke bones. I had to fire him and now he works overseas doing security stuff.... This bad ass was only 22 years old. Music, drinks and girls make men do stupid shit.
Lol..aikido. You're probably thinking ninjitsu. Aikido is IRL the worst style you'd ever come across for practical/realistic techniques. In addition, its principles are not to hurt the opponent...worst philosophy from the get go for a bar/street fight
@@cassieramirez9938 Krav Maga isn’t martial art Krav Maga is the usage of other martial arts. Striking comes from muey Thai also you can’t even kick in Krav Maga you’re half assing it
I'm a 14 year old girl who is really into bushcraft and self defense, just because a lot of times as a woman, I feel vulnerable, especially being so young, so this will help me, and I'm not going to be the one you'd want to mess with in the end, lmao
Palm strikes are alright for close range, but you lose reach as well as your fingers being compromised for bending/jamming. A fist is much better for a street application. Just make sure youre striking with the rams head side of the fist (first 2 knuckles. pointer and middle knuckles)
Punching with a.closed does take much more practice to get exactly right. When using the palm or more desirable the root of the hand you automatically have the wrist (and shoulder) lined up in a straight line behind the contact surface lessening the rist of damage to yourself. It can take years of conditioning the knuckels to get to the same thougness the root of the hand or bottom of te fist (hammerfist) has naturally. Clearly anclosed fist punch can be a good tool but is harder to master
@@mauricematla1215 that's why EVERYBODY should at some point, at least occasionally, train punching a heavy bag as a supplement to sparring. It's best practice to ground yourself in evidence based best practice. All puns intended
There is a lot more to it than that. This is a good "basic foundation" to begin understanding, but you need live practice with another person, a teacher to help adress any body mechanics you're doing wrong. You must learn and understand the core princibles of combat vital to "any" martial art or self defence, which goes beyond just learning tecniques. You must learn the "mentality" of the art. How to deal with pressure and how to keep going when an attempted technique fails, as there is no 100% guarantee anything you do will work, and this truth is important to all martial arts in order to not fall into a false sense of security. Vital skills you need are: -Understanding of distance and timing (approaching an enemy, retreating from an enemy, both when striking, being struck and when there is no engagement) -Understanding and training in gross motor skills martial training in basic hits and body covers (as when adrenaline hits you, that's all you'll be left with, simplicity is king). -Power generation skills (knowing what mechanics, posture and mind set makes for a good strike, and learning to punch "through" a target and not "at it"). -Foundational control skills (knowing and experiencing how to stand up grapple, hold and wrestle someone at a basic degree in order to deal with physical struggle and to buy time to try and apply a throw, lock, break/dislocation or hit). -Ability to apply under pressure (learning to use adenaline to your advantage and to endure. To deal with full speed and full force impacts. To deal with failure of an attempted move. Understanding true martial skill and self defence is "reactionary and adaptive" not planned ahead of time). -Mentality of street combat (don't treat the fight like a sports match, there is no mercy, no squaring up, no warnings and no breaks in real fights. Attacks come as a surprise and you must train how to deal with an attack that hits you without even seeing it coming, or an attack that begins by you physically being struck in a disadvantagous and unprepared physical postion. Once the combat starts you hit and don't stop until the attacker falls or runs away, do not to fall into the "one hit win" trap that many train themselves falsely into and become unstuck when their opponent is still standing, even after a single successful defence move pulled off on them, nor to fall into the trap of landing a couple of good hits then bouncing away from the opponent again like they do in the ring. And most importantly to remember there is no magic move or recipe to win, all martial training is simply to give you a "better fighting chance").
It's been a long time since I studied any form fighting & defense. About 20 years ago I was in the CORPS and was trained in L.I.N.E. which contains an element of Krav Magah used by Security Forces, MSG, FAST and a number of other specialized units. I thought I lost my touch until my Christmas party. Drunk Marines are the ones you can find playing with dangerous toys at unsupervised parties. My friend (having tought him some stuff) stabbed me. I then got a little disgruntled, to teach a firearm retention and disarming technique I had learned (if you read this, DO NOT attempt any of this as it is STUPID AND LIFE THREATENING. LEAVE IT TO PROFESSIONAL IDIOTS, we get paid to do DUMB stuff.) he emptied and showed clear his sidearm. I asked to point it, hold to me, whatever. He asked if, "is this one those, swing at me with that hand". I replied, "no, this is going friggin hurt". He his weapon approximately a foot and a half away. I took his weapon and put him down hard in three seconds without even thinking about it. I realized then with shock awe, that I still had it. Unbeknownst to me, forget to the mag out when he showed me the emptied chamber. What seemingly was supposed to be good training was in fact life threatening. So, in closing, it's a video game. These types of training should be taken lightly and stupidly can(will) get you killed. Use it cautiously and attention to detail. Your course, having just a glimpse, reminded me how great teachers like yourself, humble me. I thank you, and no more Marine insane parties ( we learned our lesson.
The reason for one side being forward is that your gun (if you're military or LEO) is holstered further away on the other side. If you are left-handed, that would also be your gun side. But... be aware that your opponent is probably right-handed.
Not trying to be disrespectful, and maybe this is totally naive... but a palmstrike doesn't really seem like it's gonna hurt much... I mean, can you really be effective and hurt someone if you are not super strong yourself? I feel like a closed fist with the same force would do more damage...???
A hard palm strike to certain body targets can be very effective and, unlike a punch, the risk of injuring your hand/knuckles is greatly reduced. Learn about this and more at: globalmartialarts.university/course/kravmaga/
A palm strike to the jaw will break teeth, to the nose will break the nose. If you aren't a limp wristed sissy, you can do damage with a palm strike. If you palm strike and break the nose, you now have an opportunity to disengage and get out of the fight. KM is not an offensive style, it is defensive, shock and awe and get clear of the attacker

I want to learn as many martial arts as possible by the time I’m 25 so I’m trying to find which ones I like most
There really isn't an effective defense against a well trained individual in Krav M. It's designed so that even defensive actions are Naturally transformed into an offensive attack. Awesome Art.
I rhink i will start doing this guys training love it alot
Can someone tell me hiw accurate these vids are compared to irl exp since ion have enoguh money to pay trainings and i want to learn from here
Thanks for your inspiring and informative video 👍 👌

Lol

Krav is well spoke of. Where it sounds as there's civilian style, then combat style. I wush I could had done Krav.
You still can! globalmartialarts.university/course/kravmaga/ :)
I like how he says "all that good stuff" a lot
starts at 2:17
5:36 what if you’re a grappler?
well palm stries are pretty effective than fists in some situations
Yeah but they have ab three to four inches less reach which can def be a detriment
No broken knuckles!
I absolutely love krav maga ❤❤❤❤❤
Fantastic! So do we! Take our full program at: globalmartialarts.university/course/kravmaga/
The orthodox boxing stance with the back foot at an angle seems a lot better than all 10 toes facing forward for power, balance, and movement. Just my opinion. I do like the idea of using open hands for self defense to avoid injury.
The follow-up to combatives is escaping, which is easier done with the foot facing the way it will when you run.
Thank you this actually help me to fight the people who bully me at school
🤨
is it possible to train with this video at home
U can get the basics of this but u won’t master it if u wanted to
All of these movements have always come very naturally too me without really trying
This is awesome, I love Krav Maga…a martial art originating from Israel means a lot more being a Christian!
yuck
What an odd thing to say. It coming from Israel is irrelevant.
in my experience blocking strikes especially kicks with open hands is an easy way to break or dislocate a finger
unholyXromance you can also catch a kick which is easier than a fist

@@daprimedabg4539 yeah unless you haven't trained to kick, then you can screw yourself with kicks I mean to slow you can get grabbed then knee broken, leg kicked out from under, opened up for strikes. To sum up if not experienced kicks suck
norm yes thats what would happen. personally id use a knife edge block with the side of my foot from chinese kenpo. but in a life or death situation u will do whatever u have to do to get out of a fight. rather it be a palm block. or in my case a foot block. all martal arts have there good moves and bad.
These are combatives not defenses. The palm strike is used as an attack so we don't break our knuckles on hard face bones.
I have an odd feeling I should learn all this
Same, so this world shall know pain
I’m trying to learn so I can be like Batman and protect myself. Also go around saying I’m Batman bishes 😎😈
@@cassieramirez9938 yeah I don’t think Krav Maga would help you be Batman 💀 I suggest bjj or muey Thai
@@NutriGlowK I gonna try to learn that too. But Krav Maga is also one of his main martial arts
I can see a patriot in the making here :)
He didn't teach us how to open our " byakugan "
krav maga is basically hand to hand since when were belts or levels in it
When it became fashionable in the United States, Americans love feeling like they are progressing and belts keep them reeled in
yep

I think krav maga might be another decent martial art for me to learn based off this vid and what ive seen
Bruh this finna be so easy since ive done so many other martial arts im just a natural, first try i look like a pro already
It's a highly effective defense system, and we have a fantastic program: globalmartialarts.university/course/kravmaga/
I just subscribed to your channel since the video was so useful. Where do you teach in person classes? I live in Raleigh Durham, NC on the east coast.
Hi, the GMAU does not teach in-person classes. All of our martial arts programs are online at: globalmartialarts.university/ :)
@@GlobalMartialArtsUniversity Thanks for the reply :).

What’s your hands open like that should there be a slight curve in your fingers?
By watching Ur videos and practice it, could I learn krav maga ?
Probably
There is a lot more to it than that. This is a good "basic foundation" to begin understanding, but you need live practice with another person, a teacher to help adress any body mechanics you're doing wrong. You must learn and understand the core princibles of combat vital to "any" martial art or self defence, which goes beyond just learning tecniques. You must learn the "mentality" of the art. How to deal with pressure and how to keep going when an attempted technique fails, as there is no 100% guarantee anything you do will work, and this truth is important to all martial arts in order to not fall into a false sense of security.
Vital skills you need are:
-Understanding of distance and timing (approaching an enemy, retreating from an enemy, both when striking, being struck and when there is no engagement)
-Understanding and training in gross motor skills martial training in basic hits and body covers (as when adrenaline hits you, that's all you'll be left with, simplicity is king).
@@Mr-Tibbster thank you !

I am 4”11. Should I be striking higher or in alignment with my shoulders ? Cause if it’s a bigger attacker I’d be hitting the rib cage 🤔
hmm interesting what mike said about the backhand having more rotation
Great pace
Jarheads
Except most defenses don't start in a ready position. Krav 101. Palm is great though.
teaching good technique
These techniques are very helpful
Well explained! Thanks for sharing !
I
Glad you liked it!
do i use put my right leg forward if i’m left handed? just confused on if i should use the same stance as her or if i do it the other way around
Right leg foward
The reason for one side being forward is that your gun (if you're military or LEO) is holstered further away on the other side. If you are left-handed, that would also be your gun side. But... be aware that your opponent is probably right-handed.
I can finally learn karate! Thank you.
How long should we do these exercises?
It was really helpful
Military friend sent me your videos, I'm greatful this great educational experience, thanks so much
why was she pushing the bag besides hitting it..... but the stance is very good
I really enjoy the video. I learn somting
When a pad holder tries to hit my hands out of the air, or ‘meet me half way’ it’s time to get a new pad holder!
I have mastered the Palm Strike
Look in the mirror at how your arms hang
Always a slight kink
That’s how your legs should be
Always ready to move
Boxing is all about footwork - just watch usyk
Make your stance natural like your arms and you will always be quick to move 👍🏽
Do you always lead with your left, what if you’re right handed?
AngryBirdzM from my understanding, having your left foot in front would give your right hand more power because of the swing
Your weaker hand is in front, and is called the jab. Your stronger hand is back to have more force, and is called the cross. This is basic boxing, which i used to take. Glad to see this is also in krav maga
Never use your fist in a street fight.
