- Move over, rabbit’s foot. The Korat is a living good-luck charm in his home country of Thailand, where he is also known as the Si-Sawat cat. The silver-blue cats with the emerald-green eyes are said to date to the 14th century based on their depiction in ancient literature. They were popular gifts, always presented in pairs, and had special meaning when given to brides because of their association with prosperity and fertility. The name Korat comes from the region in northeast Thailand where the cats are thought to have originated.
It’s unclear when Korats first came to the West. A cat that resembled a Korat was exhibited at a show in England in 1896, but whether it was truly a Korat (pronounced ko-raht) or simply a self-blue Siamese-meaning solid-colored-is not known.
The first known Korats imported into the United States arrived in 1959. Appropriately, they had been given as gifts to an American couple who were returning to the U.S. after the husband had retired from the Foreign Service. The Cat Fanciers Association recognized the breed in 1967, two years after Korat breeders founded the Korat Cat Fanciers Association to promote the breed.
Wherever they are found, all Korats can climb their family tree all the way back to Thailand. They are a natural breed and have never been outcrossed to any other breed as part of their development or to create another breed. They are recognized by all the major cat associations.
i thought my baby was a russian blue but now i’m thinking he’s a korat. regardless of his breed, he’s the best thing to happen to me.
I've got a pure gray kitten with green eyes that was born of a stray/feral Mamakitty, who is black. He's absolutely gorgeous but I can't tell him apart from Korat cats. What is so different from this breed and Russian blues or just regular non pedigrees cats?

Awe she picked you! I have a Korat girl named Luna! I thought she was a Russian blue at first, I used a cat scanning app and found out she is a Korat! The only difference with her and Korat appearance is she has yellow eyes which is good for her name being Luna which means the moon! 🤍🌙💯
I have a 7 yr old male Korat named Sebastian, he's different from the other cats that I had. He is really cool, last week my friend brought over his 5 yr old chiwawa dog and to my surprise, they became friends!

I have a very dark grey kitty with short cropped hair, black leather coloured nose and mauve paws. She is not big maybe 8 pounds. Her breast bone is prominant and she does not shed much. I do not know if she is a Korat or a Russian Blue. Thinking she maybe a Korat and why she was discarded was she had a maggot in her shoulder and full of round worms. About 10 white hairs on her chest. So she would not sell as a pedigree. Looking for answers.
I actually believe that Russian blue cats are originated from Korat cat because King Chulalongkorn of Siam was a good friend to czar Nicholas I of Russia and their royal families had close friendships. Both cats have short hairs which are unlikely belonging to a cold country. Moreover the Russian blues became world-widely known just lately after czar Nicholas I's reign.

Samantha Parsons yes, a very rare cat! I never knew my cat’s breed either and I thought she was a Russian blue but I found out she was a Korat because she just didn’t look like a Russian blue!
I have a Lot at for my friend. Her name is Meesa Bella. She picked me. Came up to the car, got in she looked horrid, she knitted on my neck, then got on the dashboard and looked at me, drive lady. I love her, she's my saving grace. She is way too smart for her own good.
Sam yes worldwide and even in thailand korats are a rare breed! As they are never crossbreed purposefully! ( my boys korat cat didn't care he mated unpurposefully with a Russian blue) as in thailand they are considered to be gods! Crossbreeding is considered to be a great insult to the people of thailand! This is why the oregon couple who starred the first korat kennel group in the us kept them rare!

My boy is half korat half russian blue! He looks acts like a korat! Hes lately been picking lucky lottery nos for my friend! Wish theyd be cross bred more so they wouldnt be so rare! But they cant be cuz thailand says they are gods and they are! Korat kittens need genetic testing to rule out a neuro paralysis disease! Although my boys sister died at 7 years old of this disease! Korats dont do well with vax either! My boy is indoor only! As a preemie he eats a special diet he cant eat regular cat food! My boy likes my friends adult disabled son! His best friend is a daucshund but he hates other male cats!

I living in korat and i have never had korat cat is it weird? When I was young I saw a lot of korat cats in my hometown but now it rare to find korat cat in my country white people are so mean they stealing everything from us saimese (วิเชียรมาศ) is Thai cat, korat (สีสวาด)is my fucking thaicat and khaomanee (ขาวมณี) is Thai cat too you took our cats to Europe America what about Thai people? Mumu an Oregon couple was gifted by your royal family in 1959 when they retired from diplomatic service in your country! With sibling and two non sibling korats with the understanding that they weren't ever to crossbreed korats if they wanted to start a worldwide korat cat kennel club! The Americans honored the royal families wishes as has the rest of the world who sponsors the korat cat assoc! Thus all korats even in thailand are rare due to no crossbreeding! Korats are gods! Crossbreeding is a grave insult to the people of Thailand! But it was your royal family who allowed the world access to korat cats! The world didn't steal the breed from you!
