Loosely wrapped and thin strips is the best way I have found it will grab the crown of your rope and the softer your horn is the easier you can get it locked off as a 9 heeler with no thumb I have put some thought into this topic lol
Where can you find those straps that hold your rope and what are they called. I usually just toss the rope over the horn and if I am trotting it alwwayes falls off. Thank you In advance.
The only thing I do differently is I run my first strip under the swells and hook it to the horn. This helps keep the rope from getting hung under your rubber and protects your swells a little. Best rubber I've used is truck and tractor tire tubes. If you go to put tractor tire tube on your horn get ready to work. The best precut rubber is Gator Bite. It lasts well and it grips great.
Yup. Lesson learned. I had a few on the horn during this video but they were bottom layers and didn’t get used as much. Other than that they are terrible.
Dude exactly how I do it I get it from the dealership and everything! I compete in jr world championships team roping and have always been taught to do this
Great stuff‼️ I hook it on the back of the horn, criss cross the rubber in front of the horn, then go under to the back of the horn, then start wrapping. Protects the leather around the base of yer horn. Just sayin’. Great video though for sure‼️
Are use innertube rubber and classic deli wraps and I combined them to on to my saddle horn to make it really thick and really solid
Just intertubes
Great job old school but that is the best from a 68 year old roper
Thank you! It’s the best way to go that I have found.
Thank you I’ll try this iut
Sounds good!

Absolutely. If it’s too tight then the rope runs. I’ve learned that lesson. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate it.
@@BarrettHouser you bet man I hope you didn’t think I was trying to be rude I think you were on point
No not at all. I appreciate the input! Especially from a higher number roper.
Also that big long rubber when it burns one into and unravels he won’t hardly have any rubber left on his horn
Wrap it counter clockwise like the direction you dally with some wrinkles in the rubber if its smooth the rope will be able to run fast
Agreed!
@@BarrettHouser yessir we would like to keep our fingers
@@steveaustin6786 10/10
@@BarrettHouser haha yeah we don't want 10 and a quarter thumb or pinky
@@steveaustin6786 Agreed! Always need 10
Well your my horn wrapping father. I didn't even know that was a thing.
Thanks for watching

I use innertube rubber classic deli wraps Should be really solid on my horn of my saddle but I like using both
Great vid thanks so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Great job. Exactly how I used to do it back in my roping days.
Love it! Thank you!

Some of those rubbers are suuuuper hard to get on for sure. I've seen people hook them onto the swells, I just never have. It is a good idea though.
The red/orange ones literally last like a jackpot and a half ... I was so disappointed.

One other thing...I’m old enough to not have to dally anymore ( heeler), lucky thing too because I can still count to ten, y’all know what I mean...
Oh absolutely!
