Configuring failover rights license benefit for Azure SQL Managed Instance with Azure portal and CLI

  • If you are using Azure SQL Managed Instance geo-replica for disaster recovery with Failover groups, and your geo-secondary instance is passive replica that is only DR stand-by, and not used for read-only workload, you should enable failover rights license benefit. This benefit will provide you with the number of vCores licensed to the primary instance at no extra charge. With this you can effectively get license free stand-by geo-secondary replica.
    In this video, you can see how to you can enable failover rights benefit on Azure Portal and Azure CLI, and stop paying for SQL licenses for your stand by DR replicas.
