    Your video is still a great help today! I recently bought a baritone ukulele. I am 61 and struggling to learn new chord names after 5 years of regular ukulele playing. So I will change to GCEA tuning because you have demonstrated how good it sounds

      Thanks for the great feedback about the video and so nice to hear that it was helpful in your playing. I genuinely think a bari with GCEA (Low G) produces a really nice warm sound and just perfect if you don't want to relearn all the chords in regular bari DGBE. Enjoy your strumming!

    There's a company called Guadalupe that makes custom made all LOW GCEA nylon for baritone ukulele's. All 4 strings are tuned an octave lower to retain that nice deep tone. I found it by accident after searching ways to have all 4 strings lower. Guadalupe Custom Baritone Strings low GCEA | $17.00 | full octave lower)

    Thanks for kind words. On this one I was in GCEA tuning with a low G. The string set is by Aquila and sold as ‘baritone GCEA’
    but you might see other referred to as ‘tenor for baritone’ . If you let me know the other two vids I’ll be able to let you know the tuning on those.

    Wow love the sound of this baritone ! I have only been playing for a little over 2 months. Started with a concert, then just bought a beautiful Kala tenor SMHT. Also found a used Hamano concert for $10 :) My husband doesn't understand why one needs more than one ukulele :) But I think a baritone is going to have to go on my list for the future. As long as I tune it to GCEA I will not get confused switching over. I would like a low G too I think.

      Thanks for your great feedback which is really appreciated. I hope you get a bari at some point in the future. I really like the sound of them strung GCEA which I use a lot. I do play some in DGBE too, but mostly I use GCEA (Low G) in my uke club sessions. Enjoy your strumming!

    Thanks for the nice feedback. In terms of the strings, I find that if you use the ones specifically made for playing GCEA on a baritone the tension is fine. They are available extensively but just for reference I get mine from The Southern Ukulele store here in the UK who can offer a couple of different types for this tuning.

      Ah, I bought the I bought the Aquila New Nylgut AQ-23 High G Baritone Ukulele Strings and they’re so tight and uncomfortable to play?

    If your baritone currently has a DGBE string set you would need to change to a specific baritone GCEA set. I’d be worried about the DGBE strings snapping if you tried to tune them up this high to GCEA. I’m sure there loads out there but just to say I use ones made by Aquila and also a special set put together by The Southern Ukulele Store here in the UK. Hope that helps!

    hey great vid...but it was a little unclear as to how each uke you played was tuned. could you add a comment explaining each of the 3 song versions tuning?

    I bought GCEA strings for my baritone ukulele but they’re so tight and uncomfortable. Why would that be? I bought the Aquila New Nylgut AQ-23 High G Baritone Ukulele Strings.

    Great example of the difference.... That song sounded good every time, but best on the Baritone. But if you use GCEA Baritone strings, won't the tension make it much harder to fret the chords...? I have an arthritic hand and can't play barre chords on a tenor... The strings on my DBGE baritone are much less tense.... Advice please?

    What strings can I get to put my baritone in low g CEA instead of DGBE?

      What I've been using for a while is set from The Southern Ukulele store here in the UK who make up a bespoke set which I believe the low G comes from a classical guitar set. I used to use a set made by Aquilla which were called 'GCEA for baritone' but I tried finding them recently online but no luck apart from ones that had a Hi G. I'm not sure if Aqullia still make the set with a low G but if you like their strings maybe worth doing some googling. There may be other excellent sets out there that people could advise you on but these are the only two I have personal experience of.

    Can i put tenor strings on my baritono uke?

    • @telsmith6688
      @telsmith6688  2 роки тому

      Just my own opinion but I'd say not to. Uou can get specific string sets called 'GCEA for baritone' which I think would be a much better option. The two I know of are by Aquilla or The Southern Ukulele Store in the UK also sell there own which I mostly use on my baritone I have in GCEA.

    Hi I just bought 8 string ukulele can I tune it gcea many thanks john

      If it’s a baritone 8 string that has come with DGBE strings you’ll need to swap those to specific ‘GCEA for baritone’ string setJust buy two sets of those to give you your 8 strings. If you want octave pair on the G rather than tandem to give i you that nice double string sound you can put on a high A and just tune it down a tone. If it’s a tenor 8 string you have you can just buy a GCEA 8 string set ‘off the shelf’. Hope that helps.

      Anglesey TV tuning for 8 string is high g, low g, high c, low c, both strings e, and both strings a. Hope that helped.

    What picking pattern is that your using.thanks

    • @telsmith6688

      Hi Geoff, thanks for the follow. To be honest my fingerpicking skills are not the greatest and I've always found what is referred to as as 'two finger' picking ie thumb and first finger and on this video it's a pretty standard simple roll of thumb and finger. Just my own view is that with fingerpicking it's best to find a pattern that suits you and also the song you are doing rather than any prescibed patter ie thumb then a certain finger on a certain string etc to me the emotion in a song will always give you were to places accented thumb or finger pick. I hope that helps a bit and there;s defo some real uke finger picking maestros out there worth checking out who more advanced styles and info. bets wishes, Tel

    Can I just tune the strings to GCEA without having to change the strings for the ukulele?

    • @Nobody-11B
      @Nobody-11B 5 років тому

      No. Not really.

    • @cerridwenhicksartdesign
      @cerridwenhicksartdesign 3 роки тому

      No. Because the strings would or could break but it also puts way too much tension on the neck and will over time warp the wood and ruin the uke.
