The sbr is Losi's response to the udr. The hammer rey is Casey Currie's 4400 class ultra4. The udr is a 6100 class trick truck. Completely different.
I knew ken wouldnt like it but if you stiffen the ass end just a little and then put some spacers on top of the tie rod ends to fix the steering geometry it handles pretty good. Locking the rear differential also helps keep it straight and slid around a little more. Vitavon makes a sway bar that turns the fake sway bar into a real on that work but the stock one is pretty bad it is infont of the rear shocks putting a lot of leverage on it. Ik kev probably wont see this but if anyone still wants one then thats how you can make them 10x better
Iirc 8s steve did exactly this but also added some other tires so it wouldnt fall over as often

They definitely made it cheap 4 the price same thing happened to my hammer rey did one big jump in One of my wheels was bent it rips on 4s I put it up until I can make some adjustments because I can't get it to ride straight with all that power it's OK overall to me it's need some adjustments It seems like they made it for you to buy upgrade parts compared to my super rock rey that never broke one piece to this day Great video kev 👍
I bought the 2WD baja rey and I agree that these trucks are a huge let down. I could've just saved another couple weeks and gotten a mini Maxx.. Even with upgrades it's still not that good. Looks nice but that's about it.
Despite looking similar in design at first glance they are actually scale versions of entirely different types of off road racing the hammer Rey is supposed to be a king of the hammers scaler(mix between Baja racing rock bouncing and rock crawling) and the udr is just a driving model of the traxxas trophy truck
@Blackmage I think it's on the super rock Rey chassis witch is just a modified sbr chassis but Def not trying to be a trophy truck
Yeah I don't think this is quite comparable to the UDR for reasons you listed they're not quite modeled after the same real world trucks, both are cool in my opinion. Still enjoyed the video, Kev!

yea i don't get why he's comparing a rock racer to a desert racer. losi's answer to the udr is the Super Baja Rey/Baja Rey.
It's pronounced like "LOW-see" not "LOSS-e".
This is modeled after an Ultra Four that competes in The King of the Hammers. Not suppose to be anything like a trophy truck. The Hammers is more of a rock crawling/bouncing and trail riding event than an all out desert race. They're not really meant to be all that fast. The LOW-see competitor to the UDR would be the Super Baja Rey.

I have this car and I really like it bc most people don't know that it's a 4s car! YES THE stock motor and ESC is 4s. Car becomes a lot better

It's a racer not a basher, a lot of the parts are plastic which should be upgraded to metal but they were made to be plastic due to the horrific shipping and manufacturing costs in China.
That makes zero sense as far as shipping costs. It's all made in China and dirt cheap especially the plastic parts so could've gone metal but would've cost more overall
This is not Losi’s answer to the Udr. That would be the Baja Rey
Eh, it seems more "scale" than anything. Looks great driving but not as much fun as other "scale" trucks.

I have a UDR and I was doing some research into it and it seems to me that Traxxas and Tamiya teamed up on this one if you dig deep. It makes me wonder what Tamiya did and if maybe they built the chassis I will dig back into what I found out and try to send a link on this post if anyone else knows any more please let me know I’m curious. I love The UDR it is a great rig for skill realism

Yeah I almost bought one of those a few days ago grabbed me a tlr tuned typhon instead. But you can at least say that truck really whoops some ass.
Seems like it would rip on 3s but those rear sway bars what a week point!
Well, the rear sway bar is actually in the middle; dont know if you got that or not as this truck is confusing

They should know better and start thriving for excellence. Because of Kevin, many manufacturers have made their cars much more reliable. We need more people like him to smash them to bits so manufacturers stop building junk. Kevin is a Legend and a National Treasure for our hobby. I saved so much money because of Kevin. I knew when I bought an RC car that he recommends it was going to be reliable and worth the money.
Yeah it comes across as decent, but a bit....meh. I wouldn't mind a UDR one day, they look very cool/realistic.

Definitely not a basher,specifically designed to rip around rugged terrain and small jumps. If you're into that get one,if you're a basher the money is better spent on an 1/8 truck or truggy.

The main problem of this car is that its transmission is way to small to hold the power it needs to move its weight.

Compared to.... it looks good but build like garbage. A fake sway bar I mean come on a real sway bar is necessary. Banggoody is a good way to explain it. Too bad the price is so high.
Here's an idea take the best of every RC car you've ever owned that you like the most and put it together and build a complete custom RC car with all the best parts from each different one so if you go with the body with a Traxxas then taking use the axles and stuff from the next RC car up in the line or down till you build the best car you think you can build best smasher
The hammer Rey is just a less cool rock Rey

Kev, IMO the UDR looks better and is much more realistic when driving in slow motion. I'm a big fan of Losi, I just think they could have done much better. On a positive note, you make them all look good, and always keep it entertaining. Thanks for always being real with reviews and not selling out for free products. You're a Legend!
it's the only Baja style buggy I can think of so I guess it's good in that sense

Yes! SBR is more comparable to the UDR then the hammer rey.

Really Happy somebody brought out a King of the Hammers style truck,even happier as it's Losi, they do some nice scale looking stuff ,even if it sometimes means access to inside takes a while,Looking at you Raptor Rey!
I've been waiting for ages for Kev to run and upgrade his other KoH style Losi Lasernut. They're known for their diffs being easy to strip without some work. Wanna see if it lasts more than 10 min of his driving 😄
Kev, it's not meant to compete with the UDR at all, its supposed to be a U4/King of Hammers Rock Racing/crawling type car.
Hey Kev, Avid Subscriber here, bumped into your vids in the recommendations on another vid a fair few years ago, and with me being 40plus in years I must admit that during the first few videos I was desperately trying to find faults and enough of them to turn me off watching and enjoying your content. But being as your content is always very watchable and really put together well, the more I watched the more I liked. 3 years ago after 30odd years I bought my first RC after the Wild Willy and Mud Blaster in the 80s, soon as you first featured the petrol Baja's I was in. Now a 5b Rovan, a 5b Taylor/RCmax, Losi 5t, and now just gonna start a 80cc Raminator and on completion I'll be easily around £15000 in, but loved every minute of the hobby, Driving/Repairing/Upgrading/Testing/Experimenting, love it all, only bit I don't like is the Mrs face when another parcel lands at my door, but at least while that happens I'm somewhere working so it a auto cool off period. Love you channel and look forward to notifications telling me you've dropped another banger. I always look out for you when I'm filling up at petrol station and when I call in Redfin when I'm down that way! Keep it all up Kev and thanks for hours upon hours of unrivalled entertainment!!!

udr bashes way better and does everything better but you buy whatever makes you happy

Love the hammer rey but you have to do a lot of tuning to get it to feel right. I recommend adjusting the rear links so that the upper links have less link separation from the bottom links. Also recommend replacing the rear sway bar with the vitavon sway bar. Unfortunately out of the box, not rhe greatest but with some modding this thing is a beast.
Exactly I think this is the best answer I'm thinking of getting this one but doing some upgrades to it the udr is a completely different class of truck aswell so I fell as I'd he should've compared this car to something else

Not throwing shade but I think it’s more meant for scale desert racing. I could tell the way it squatted when he first took off in the shop. Plus it explains the reason for the handling be crap. The anti roll bars are probably on the looser end. Plus in reality it’s in the air much more than on all 4 wheels. So their isn’t too much of a reason for the sway bars. Which may be “fake”

I think the problem is, that this thing looks like it is something like the UDR, bu it isnt at all! I think it is more like a rock racer. They have the same plattform, but unbelivable hard shocks( sometimes ), no functional swaybars, and are absolutely non-steerable at speed, so compare it to the UDR isnt the best you can do.
Exactly its meant to be a king of hammers style truck like the bomber and rock rey

That losi is a trail truck, a really good trail truck. Beyond that, nope.
The car at first sight it looks like it just needs more power and shock damping to help stability and it might be a decent match to the UDR. But the UDR will always be the best. Contender but no chance.

Pretty disappointed with the hammer rey. I had a baja rey for a little while, but after taking the body on and off 20+ times (12 to 16 screws depending on how much you bent it), breaking the front diff when I went to a 4s castle system with the 1512 ($35 for a ring and pinion!), and the general drawbacks of a solid axle rear suspension especially in high torque scenarios (Lifting the front left tire, always driving left, low ground clearance), I decided to get rid of it. Now that I'm back in the market for a 1/10 short course/ desert buggy, I was keeping my eye on the hammer rey since I do love the look of these cars. After this video though, I can officially scratch it off my list. I may still consider the Rock Rey if I'm ever looking for a rock racer, but definitely not for a basher.

For that size / type i would get a FTX DR8 ,i'm pretty sure Kev has not had it on the channel and it's a really solid RC that is 6S 60mph for under 400$.
The rear suspension is WAY too bouncy and not plush enough to truly absorb anything. Even on small bumps it was kicking the rear up.
Not bouncy at all, it has too thick of oil for soaking up bumps so the suspension can't rebound fast enough
can you do a vid on the 1/5 Scale 30 Degree North DTT-7 Short Course Truck, i seen thunderRC put a MAX 5 combo in it and he says its the strongest RC you can get, hes got some crazy bashing vids of it, up looks just as strong as the xmaxx! I wanna see you take one for a rip so bad kev!
Good review on this RC, it's not a basher type RC. I looked it up before your video and saw that its basically an extended chassis Rock Rey. Also I may have missed it, but do you have a skate deck and made it into an RC body? Just a thought for the skate park. I did see the pink skate wheels conversion and about to watch the yellow skate wheels.

I'm a huge tekno and kyosho fan boy, and I run nitro 90% of the time, when it comes to electric rods as much as I hate to say it the Traxxas Slash and the Traxxas UDR are the best. If you get the right upgrades with them they're like a tank
I got the 2wd slash as my first 2 years ago and I haven't broken anything and bash then pretty hard
I'm not saying that it's a bad toy but I bought a slash 4x4 vxl and the first time I took it out it broke. Almost every time I take it out something happens to it. I love the thing but it just needs beefier parts from the factory. Especially the driveshafts! I've already upgraded to rpm ones with rear rpm a arms and some ebay shocks that surprisingly work well. I need help on deciding what to upgrade next so it won't break as often. Any advice is helpful.

I mean the arrma senton performs more like a dessert truck than that thing did snd from what you said it's expensive so I'd go with A senton v3 or if you have 800 dollars get the traxxas dessert truck.

losi makes some good Rcs for getting into the hobby but to me it seems like even the more costly ones just don't compare to traxxas or arrma
Hi kev, as you are doing a speed car (2) I had an idea from an advert I had seen. It is to make a rc car so high on tourque (geared so far down) to be able to pull the monster truck.
