I am from Vinnytsia, Ukraine. I was in Sibiu in August 2021. Of all the cities in Romania where I managed to visit, I liked Sibiu the most. Incredibly cozy, beautiful city, the quintessence of that same Old Europe. I fell in love with this city. Alas, then it turned out to walk along it for only a few hours. I hope the war ends quickly and next year I will come to Sibiu again. I liked him too much.

It's magnificent, it's beautiful because it's Germanic, the city was once called Hermannstadt founded by German colonists , everything is Germanic in style, the architecture, the houses, the buildings and the castles .

I've been to Sibiu a few decades ago. I stayed there for 3 weeks and ate daily at the finest hotel because regular restaurants were lacking. This video only shows things for tourists, like the old downtown area buildings, but not the regular poor areas, and there were many, like one petrol station for the whole city, poorly stocked auto parts store, limited food markets, just a lot of things missing, etc. Actually, most of the Germans who'd lived in Romania for 400 yrs, such as in Sibiu had moved back to the more prosperous Germany when Germany reunited in 1991 and granted automatic citizenship to people of German origin from where ever. It amazed me that the Germans kept to their ethnic culture and language even having lived for multiple generations in Romania. A German colony in Mexico also keep to themselves too. Only in America, the Germans integrated better, and actually were dominant in American society and businesses, but less so in its politics. I find that people with fewer toys in their lives, such as the German Romanians, are friendlier than those with more toys like the Germans in Germany.

I agree that I show the touristic places, and this is mostly because when a tourist enters the city doesn't necessarily want to go to the industrial parks or less safe places, but he would rather get the vibe of the city from the city center outwards. Media is also playing a huge role in the popularity of a subject and it directly influences the mass opinion at a bigger scale. So many news channels choose to talk about emotional sensitive topics and highlight problems, that I wanted to balance the things a little bit by showing the good parts of a city that otherwise couldn't be seen. Everywhere we have problems to solve. Pollution, segregation, traffic, corruption, etc. But what I learned is that people make the place. A city can be beautiful from multiple perspectives, but most of us decide based on the first piece of news that we read. I have a similar story with Naples. I read many reviews that were saying that crime rate is the biggest in Europe and it's dangerous for tourists. Spanish quarter was the most dangerous, etc. I decided to give it a try, go there and expose my equipment. Guess what? Nothing happened, I enjoyed the food and the locals were really kind. Remember that the negative experiences are usually 3 times heavier than a positive one.
I'm sorry but so many things changed since a couple of decades ago. What you're describing is a situation before '90 or right after, it has nothing to do with today's reality of the city.

Perhaps you should go revisit soon and you'll see a lot of the places you've described as being "poor" are now modern and changed. Is like comparing China of then with China of today. Yes, there still are some big problems that need solving but it isn't nowhere near what it was 30 years ago. Yes, it could have improved faster if the ex-communist security police wouldn't have put their paws on the country. I can ensure you things have changed drastically since your last visit. And even tho this video isn't showing all the industrial areas and gritty places it don't mean they still look as bad as they used to 30 years ago. For example, go see Cluj Napoca now compared to 30 years ago the city is a bustling metropolis recognised internationally by singers, esports players, athletes, and it's known for its achievements in science and many other industries. Bucharest too is the richest capital city in the region and the 9th richest regions in Europe. Now compare today's figures with that of 30 years ago and you will be petrified what you find out. Now what the Transilvanian Saxons did was to choose wisely. An unpredictable future as opposed to a future where Germany was already performing better economically than Romania. Romania was greatly affected by the communists and later by the fall of communism. Saxon's weren't stupid they just choose what was better for them at the time. Now if you do a quick google search you'd find that a lot of Saxons are making their way back to their motherland.
omg, yeah! I was amazed to see people randomly moonwalking. That's definitely one of the reasons you should visit Romania. Besides drinking alcohol, moonwalking is one of the most essential skills of Eastern Europeans.

Cernăuți e cel mai frumos. Poate ajungi și pe acolo. Chiar dacă nu mai e al nostru, merita vazut.

If you describe something as idyllic, you mean that it is extremely pleasant, simple, and peaceful without any difficulties or dangers.
